    Greenbo Lake State Resort Park

    It’s pretty nice

A lot of their sites have full hook up but not all of them. Read the details of the sites when booking. Some of the sites have really steep grades and aren’t big rig friendly.

Check in was a breeze had out car tags on our post.

They do have a full-time camp host on site.

I didn’t use the shower 🚿 house but they do have a couple on the grounds.

They have a putt putt course but bring your own putter and ball.

There is Verizon service but it’s spotty.

They do have WiFi but it’s very slow and not secure.

Place is very pet friendly. The people we have met here are great.

Sites are wide but really close together.

    Paintsville Lake State Park Campground

Nice lake, rec area and campground all nestled together

Spent the night here passing through. I did make a reservation just in case but there were a couple sites open. Nice, small campground, most sites are back in but there are a few pull through sites. The staff were friendly and the campground seems maintained fairly well. No wifi and Verizon is touchy. Out in the recreation area I had one bar and LTE though the data seemed pretty good. My site was right at the beginning of the campground. Inside my camper I could only get a signal if I put my phone in the window. The signal was good enough to stream and FaceTime but if I took it out of the window I’d lose signal.

The sites are nice and not on top of each other. They are a nice finer type gravel and mostly level. Big patio area with a picnic table and fire pit. Some of the sites at the front will give you a decent view of the lake, site 18 being the best I believe, I was in site 20.

It’s open year round according to the website. Not sure how big rig friendly it is and I couldn’t find any information on the website, I’d call first. I don’t recall seeing any 5th wheel or motor homes back there.

Overall, very nice campground and I would visit again. There is an 1850’s mountain house in the park just prior to the entrance to the campground/recreation area. There is a fee and you’ll have to check the hours. I forgot to take a picture but the song on the gift shop door said certain days by appointment only and I think Friday thru Sunday they were open for a period of time.

    Wildcat Camping and Fishing

    Very Nice Place

We have been here for a little over a month now. Nice level gravel sites with grass around them. Full hookups 30/50A at each site. Wifi. Could accommodate at least 40+ foot 5th wheels. There is a paylake with small shelter areas, playground, horseshoe pit, game room, community gathering area, store with snacks, drinks, tackle and other items. There are restrooms, but no showers or laundry. Beautiful area. About 11 miles to Paintsville, which has all the stores you'd need. Some closer convenience stores. Johnny and Regina, the owners, couldn't be any nicer. Very good monthly rates. Can receive mail and packages.

One-Night Adventure: Our Shakedown Trip in the New Travel Trailer

Campsite Review for Site 6 – Gateway to Wayne National Forest

Our recent camping trip at this campground was an excellent way to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of Wayne National Forest. The serene forest setting provided a perfect backdrop for a relaxing outdoor adventure, with the campground offering all the basics needed for a comfortable stay.

We stayed at Site 6 in our travel trailer, enjoying the ease of a pull-through site. Although the water and electric hookups are on the opposite side unless you drive through the loop the wrong way, this setup has an unexpected benefit—it faces directly toward the woods. This orientation allowed us to savor the tranquility of the forest, adding a layer of privacy and a more intimate connection with nature.

While the sites are decently sized, they are closely positioned with minimal separation, which might limit privacy in other areas. However, the majestic surroundings of Wayne National Forest more than make up for this. The proximity to hiking trails, wildlife sightings, and the peaceful ambiance of the trees create an immersive experience that’s hard to beat.

All in all, this campground is a fantastic base for exploring Wayne National Forest. The combination of basic amenities, convenient access, and the enchanting forest environment makes it a great spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Lake View Campground — Beech Fork State Park

    Beautiful and secluded

We visited in the end of October 2021. The colors and the views were spectacular. The drive into the park was very curvy mountain back roads. The site included a fire pit with grill and a picnic table. There was a fair amount of space between sites. Approximately 50-75 feet apart. The bath house was nice but could use a little refreshening. There are many activities including a shooting range, frisbee golf course, swimming pool, playground just to name a few. With Verizon as our service provider no cell signal was available at the park. Overall, we give 3 stars. Minus one star for no cell service and minus another star due to maintenance. Overall, very nice park.

    Jenny Wiley State Park Campground

Needs to be updated and repaired

Roads in campground are rough in places. Electrical boxes are in rough shape at some sites. 30 amp kept tripping the breaker. WiFi does not work. Several sites have full hookup but sewer hookups need to be repaired and water hookups are far away.

    Grayson Lake State Park Campground

    Below average

This is a small campground situated next to a golf course. There are several nice sites but others are not ideal. Our site (13) was ok, other than the scattered broken glass and trash. The main issue was lack of oversight from staff. The site next to us was completely packed with their fifth wheel, a large tent, pop up canopy, four vehicles, a kayak trailer, and a boat that was in the corner of our site. They did not leash their dogs and did not pick up after them. We didn’t complain about them encroaching on our site but felt that the campground should enforce their own rules. Another site nearby setup a construction light at night that lit up the entire campground like a stadium and stayed on late into the night. Basically, campers are left to do as they please regardless of whether it is inconsiderate of other campers. The positive is the location is only a few minutes from the boat ramp for the most popular kayaking spot.

Four Coves Campground — Beech Fork State Park

    Lots of good sites

Not far from home, and good choices of type of sites. Biggest negative is no wifi or cell service. But quiet, family friendly, and some sites away from activities to chill out at too.

    Paintsville Lake State Park Campground

    Couldn’t Ask for More

Stayed 3 nights. Nice level, large sites with full hookups. Close to many local attractions in and around Paintsville. Only drawback was lack of any Verizon signal. Understand that AT&T and TMobile had some service.

Guide to East Lynn Lake

East Lynn Lake camping options feature predominantly flat terrain with elevations ranging from 700 to 900 feet above sea level. The surrounding region experiences mild weather from April through October with average summer highs around 85°F and occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Camping facilities within a 30-mile radius of East Lynn Lake offer varying levels of accessibility, with many sites situated on former mining properties or near water features.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Oasis Point RV Resort, campers can enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the man-made lake. "Quiet spot next to an industrial area. Nice view of man-made lake with a number of fishing huts for catch-and-release fishing," notes Jacqueline H.

Water recreation: Families visiting during summer months can take advantage of water activities beyond standard swimming. "They have a large pond that has a nice beach, a huge slide and a zip line. They have kayaks, paddle boards and floats first come first serve," reports Karen P. about Oasis Point RV Resort.

Hiking trails: Beech Fork State Park offers several trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. "This campground offers a handful of trails easy to moderate. Pretty lake with ducks everywhere, as well as geese. Saw many deer throughout our stay, even some beaters," shares Kaitlin T.

Golf course access: Yatesville Lake State Park provides camping near an 18-hole golf course. "Who doesn't like their own island. This state park offers you 3, along with great views, beautiful scenery and 18 holes of golf, swimming and hiking options," explains Lisa S.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the spacing at certain campgrounds. At Yatesville Lake State Park Campground, "The campsites are a LONG distance from each other. You won't even hear your neighbors," according to Carrie J. This contrasts with more densely packed rv sites near East Lynn Lake.

Wildlife viewing: Nature enthusiasts enjoy spotting local fauna. "We were visited by geese, ducks and deer," reports Whistle P. about Four Coves Campground. The region supports diverse wildlife including migratory birds during spring and fall seasons.

Water access from sites: Some campgrounds offer sites directly on water. "If you have a site on the water, ducks may well waddle into your camp looking for a handout," notes Fred L. about their experience at Four Coves Campground at Beech Fork State Park.

Cleanliness: Valley Breeze RV Campground receives praise for its upkeep. "The folks that run this RV park are very nice and obviously have a lot of pride in their place. Valley Breezy is very well kept and clean," comments Tahnee M.

What you should know

Trains and noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience railroad noise. At Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park, "The only real problem comes with the train tracks right here. The trains are close and do blow their whistle for crossing by the office," cautions Cheryl T.

Site composition: Terrain varies significantly across different campgrounds. "It is on a strip mine so expect a lot of rock and no shade," Karen P. warns about Oasis Point RV Resort. Conversely, other campgrounds feature gravel or grass sites with varying levels of shade.

Overnight limitations: Some locations restrict longer stays. At Valley Breeze RV Campground, one camper reported: "I was going to be in the area for 5 days. I went to the office, asked for 4 nights, I have a 2021 travel trailer. He said 'overnight only'."

Seasonal operations: While some rv parks near East Lynn Lake operate year-round, others close during winter months. Yatesville Lake State Park Campground specifically operates from "April 1 to October 31," requiring alternative accommodations during off-season periods.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Saint Albans Roadside Park offers family-friendly facilities. "There is a fenced in playground that is very nice," notes Andrew S., making it suitable for families with younger children.

Swimming options: While some areas restrict lake swimming, alternatives exist. At Four Coves Campground, "if swimming in the lake isn't your thing then the beech fork pool is not even a min away, nice big pool with 2 diving boards and also a kiddie pool for the wee little ones," advises Josh F.

Security considerations: Most campgrounds maintain regular security patrols. "Very secure," notes Joey B. about Four Coves Campground. Parents can allow appropriate independence for children with confidence in many of these managed facilities.

Camp store access: Families should plan for supplies. "A fairly stocked camp store has all the camping basics," reports Stacey about Moxley Branch Campground, though selection varies significantly between campgrounds near East Lynn Lake.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: RV campers should prepare for varied site conditions. "Our site was very level, maybe 1/2" low on the camp side," reports Dustin M. about Oasis Point RV Resort. Bringing leveling blocks remains advisable for most campgrounds in the region.

Limited services: Some RV accommodations near East Lynn Lake offer minimal amenities. At Valley Breeze RV Campground, campers note there are no showers or toilets despite having hookups for water, electric and sewer.

Connectivity challenges: Internet and cell service varies widely. "Verizon does not work here but ATT does. There is wifi in the main campground at the boathouse but that is all," notes Stacey about Moxley Branch Campground.

Weather preparedness: RV campers should anticipate occasional challenging conditions. Karen P. advises that at Oasis Point RV Resort, despite level sites, campers should be prepared for possible weather events, especially during spring thunderstorm season.
