Four Coves Campground — Beech Fork State Park

Kayakers and anglers will find direct access to Beech Fork Lake from this waterfront campground within Beech Fork State Park. The 760-acre lake supports bluegill and bass fishing, while flat terrain throughout the camping area makes bike riding accessible for families. Four Coves operates as one of several camping areas within the state park, managed jointly by WV Division of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Sites vary considerably in their lake proximity and tree coverage. Waterfront sites like 183 sit directly on the water but lack mature trees, while neighboring sites may offer more shade. Kayla H. notes that "spots on the lake are our favorites, but are usually first to fill up." The campground features electric hookups but no water or sewer connections at individual sites. Shower houses maintain regular cleaning schedules, though some reviewers mention the fixed shower heads sit quite high.

The campground fills significantly on weekends compared to weekdays. Whistle P. observed that "Monday - Wednesday we had our loop all to ourselves" but "once the weekend rolled around it got pretty packed." Wildlife sightings include geese, ducks, and deer that regularly visit campsites. The camp store stocks essentials and souvenirs, while boat rentals operate at reasonable rates with paddle boats and canoes available within walking distance.

Access roads can present challenges, with some reviewers reporting rough conditions. Cell service and wifi remain limited throughout the area. The campground accepts reservations and offers various site types from basic electric hookups to locations closer to full-service areas. For broader camping options in the region, campers can explore places to camp around Beech Fork State Park. Book waterfront sites well in advance, especially for weekend stays during peak season.

Pretty View but Shower Houses Need Attention

We have stayed at Beech Fork 3 times now and the view is always spectacular. However, we had to use the shower houses this time & they need attention. The water was barely luke warm and some of the stalls were dirty.

Book this place immediately!

This place is so pretty its positively photogenic! Monday - Wednesday we had our loop all to ourselves. We were visited by geese, ducks and deer. We didn’t have a water hookup at our site and the bathrooms were older but everything was very nice and clean. Once the weekend rolled around it got pretty packed. The crowd was mostly families and everyone quieted down by like 10. There was definitely a family fun atmosphere.

Scenic camping, open space

We stayed for a weekend in October and it was some of the best views we have had from a campsite. To wake up to a waterfront view, and great views of the hills, was a treat we haven’t experienced before. Shower house was clean, and the camp store had a nice selection of necessities as well as souvenirs. We will definitely be visiting again!

Lots of good sites

Not far from home, and good choices of type of sites. Biggest negative is no wifi or cell service. But quiet, family friendly, and some sites away from activities to chill out at too.

Nice, Family Friendly.

We joined friends for a quick weekend trip. Stayed in site 222, about a 3 block walk to the shower house but 1 block to a bathroom. No sewer or water hookup. Very manicured grounds, clean bathrooms/shower houses. Very y’all shower heads that are not removable to help rinse off small kiddos or properly wash out your hair. Friendly staff. Photos were limited but this is from our friends site in the loop with water access down from us.

Beech Fork State Park

We spent a week camping at Beech Fork. There were things we liked and didn't like. If you are looking for laid back, kayaking, fire building, kids playing, fishing, camping trip, then this is the place to be. It is very safe for kids. The park ranger makes his rounds quite frequently. The only thing we did not like is, there is no swimming in the lake. There is a pool very close but you still have to pay if you are camping there - at least discount the price to campers. There is beach access but it takes 30-45 minutes to drive to it.

Family Favorite - perfect weekend trip

My family and I love this campground and usually camp here a few times a year. There are always plenty of great spaces, we have never stayed at a spot that we didn't like. Spots are a good size and clean. The spots on the lake are our favorites, but are usually first to fill up. You won't be far from the lake wherever your spot is. The full hookup spots are in my opinion most crowded. I prefer the sites as you drive further into the park. Great for bike riding and lake activities. The land is flat and there are plenty of low traffic areas to ride. Boat rental fees are reasonable, you can travel to the marina for some boats but paddle boats and canoe rentals are within walking distance of your site. Some hiking is available also. The bathrooms are almost always clean and I have rarely had to wait for a shower. Pool is a decent size and discounted for campers. The camp store is usually well stocked with essentials that you don't want to go into town for, but town isn't so far away that it is impossible to get to anything. There is also a game room and a nice restroom in the lodge. Riding bikes here and hanging out on the edge of the lake is our favorite thing to do here though. They also have lots of organized activities for families.

Great Weekend spot

Being only 5 hours from southern Indiana makes this spot a long weekend favorite. The camp store is always well stocked and the snack bar is a treat for ice cream. Buy firewood from the locals on the road outside of the park on your way in. The lake is huge and boat rental is reasonable and relaxing. Pick a spot in one of the Cove camping areas or go full hookup.
