Nice boondock in a lovely location

Hosts were friendly and attentive. Site was spacious and pleasantly situated for our 17' travel trailer. Clean bathrooms and shower. Lots of poison ivy and amazing wildflowers on the 4-5 mile loop trail that started near the back of the campground.

Love it!

A bear ran through the campground so that was really cool. Wonderful campground with nice hikes. Kids love it. The lake is pretty. Out in the rustic wilds. Just what camping should be. Bring everything you need bc there’s nothing there.

Wonderful Place to stay !!!

The sites were very generous in size - not cramped at all! Sites were partially shaded and backed up to woods. Lots of beautiful hiking/biking/equestrian trails to explore. Bathrooms were very clean and nice. Bundles of firewood sold $7 each. Nice fire ring at each site. Pet friendly. Will…

We liked it

We stayed a few years ago during Arbor Day so we helped plant trees. That was fun. Even better was the stargazing they offered.

Lesser Known Beautiful Campground

James River State Park is beautiful! The Canoe Landing camping area is spacious with fire rings, and lots of room to set up tents right along the river. The parking area is very close by, and the bathrooms, while more primitive, are close by as well. There are tons of trails to explore in this…

Nice campground

This was an excellent camping spot while going from New River Gorge to Shenandoah NP. It's on the south side of Shenandoah but doesn't take long to get into the park on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Several hikes are close as well. It's a very clean campground with generous size sites that are well…

We spent last weekend tent camping at James River State Park in Gladstone, Va.

It was absolutely beautiful. They claim to be a very dark camp ground at night and they were right. Stars every where!

Camp ground was very clean and we'll maintained. Each camping area has a Camp ground Host that would help you out if you had questions. What a great experience we had!

Beautiful campground w/ great beer & hiking

The campground is small and well-kept. It has an incredibly chill and laid-back vibe.

You are a quick walk to the brewery and café, where you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is nice and dark at the campground, so great for star watching.

There are several small walking paths throughout…

Okay, but not well thought out

PROS This is a nice clean campground within walking distance to the Brewery - which is why most people camp there. Nice hiking trails, well marked and wide. WiFi was decent. Beautiful area with Mountain View’s.

CONS There are no trees on the RV section, which means if you camp in the summer…

2 Night Minimum

Just went to book a site since I’m in the area, and it’s a two-night minimum to tent camp. This seems crazy for a Sunday night and the campground is not at all packed. It’s also $50/night, which is too high for primitive sites.

Nice campground

We stayed in 2020, first time at this campground and will definitely stay again. Very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, plenty of places to hike, and Natural Bridge is a must see. Plenty to do at the campground - corn hole, pool, playground, etc. We stayed in a pull-thru full-hookup site, they also…

Annual Family Trip

We camp here annually with my wife’s side of the family (it’s half way between us and them). We love it. We like getting the sites which are right next to the creek because the kids will play in the water all day.

In the shoulder season the campground isn’t staffed often, but what do you expect…

Hard to beat free

This campground being only about 25 miles from home has been one we’ve used several times over the years. It has seen increasing use the last few years and does seem to attract a wide range of people, including some regulars whose rigs more or less stay all summer. Free boondocking places east of…
