ScoutThe Blue Ridge Parkway is currently closed just south of the Peaks of Otter area. Traffic is being detoured just behind the campground. This was the 4th of July weekend so may be u usual, but the traffic was all day and night. There was a lot of commotion at 4 am—hikers in the parking lot to make the summit for dawn. Many sites were tiered—I had steps or the worn path down to the actual site from where I parked. The sites were spacious and well kept. Gravel tent site —common in the area but I’m not a fan. There were sites open on the holiday weekend….no wonder. Beautiful area. I’ll go back to the lodge (been there a few times) but I’ll camp somewhere else.
TravelerAllows one to pick any available tent spot. People here are very friendly. Tent sites are covered in well-kept grass. There are ground hogs and crawdads. Near a main road, but still very quaint. 25$ tent sites. Enjoyed a misty sunset and sunrise by the river. Bathhouse is the nicest one I've encountered with a very homey living room like entry, very nice, private bathrooms with showers, and a laundry room. Highly recommend for anyone passing through on cross-country bicycle trips, like the one I'm on, who is in need of a safe place to pitch a tent for a couple of nights. Other amenities on grounds, just haven't explored all options myself.

ScoutWe had a wonderful experience at River Ridge! It has the best little area along the Greenbrier River for easy kayaking, fishing or floating in inner tubes. We even rented a kayak for few hours and put in up the river passes the people bridge and came out right back at the campground an hour later. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful, even after office hours with firewood. Everyone around us were other families and made for a great atmosphere. Quiet hours were well respected and it was always very clean. We can’t wait to come back!
ScoutThis was a quiet spot that felt safe, with a pit toilet nearby to the trailhead parking area. Car camping is the only option at this time. It appears that the tent camping area is no longer available and is fenced off for environmental protection reasons.
GuideWe arrived without a reservation and were warmly welcomed by the host, who let us pick any available site. We needed a clear sky to the NNE for Starlink, and found the perfect spot— technically an RV site, but it worked great for our tent for one night. It was right on the forest's edge with a nice open view to the north.
The bathrooms and showers were excellent, and a washer and dryer was available— a great bonus.
Recommend this campground, especially if you need Starlink access or just a peaceful, well-equipped place to stay.
ScoutWe were lied to and ignored. Conditions were very poor at the beginning of May. That can certainly be expected with the flooding in the area, though that was not known to us until arrival. It wiped out their entire campground, leveled their bathhouse, and even moved their office building several feet. Many of their sites were out of commission. This left very poor conditions, and their recovery planned involved the use of a few port-a-shower/toilets. The water barely trickled and was only cold. We could not stay there. The caretaker of the campground appeared understanding and said that he would have my money refunded for the week. That STILL has NOT happened! They don't respond to phone calls, voice mails, or emails. Definitely beware of businesses like this!!!! I am sorry to have to give them 1-Star.
ScoutNice clean place. Right next to river. A bit noisy since the RV sites are next to the road & railway is across from river. Pet friendly & nice size bundles of firewood for $10. They even come by in the morning to pock up your trash. Wish we had more time to take a float down river, they rent kayak & tubes.
TravelerShowed up around 5pm and were the only ones there. 6-8 different sites, all are beautiful and most are right next to the creek. There was a fire ring and man made stone oven at the site we chose.
