    Great Campground-Great Owners

We spent 4 nights here this past week. Very clean, quiet, and relaxing campground. The owner Todd was super nice and very helpful. Great WiFi service. We were in site 43 right on the pond. Full hookups. Very good Verizon coverage. Ok ATT coverage. A mix of short and long term campsites, but everything is well maintained. We will definitely stay here again.

    awful

We stayed At Lake Myers because of the Thousand Trails package we received with the purchase of our travel tailer. We spent 6 nights unfortunately .  This is basically a trailer park.  Packed, old, nasty.  I cannot even understand how it can really be categorized as a campground.  The website pictures are NOT EVEN ClOSE to being accurate.  Never again.

    Raccoon Holler Campground

    Nice Campground / Great Location

I picked this campground because it was very close to Blue Ridge Parkway. My plan was to ride my motorcycle through this beautiful area of NC, but the rain didn't cooperate this trip. I camped in site 112. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. This was a last minute reservation and they had limited availability. The site is not very level and very tight for my 32 foot RV. The site had full hookups (water, sewer, 30 amp electric) that worked great. I walked most of the campground and there are some great sites. Most are wooded and reasonably spaced. Quite a few long term campers, but the rigs and sites were all very well kept. At $64 per night it is a little pricey, for site 112, but probably not for the campground and area as a whole. No grill, just a tire rim for campfires and a picnic table.

Getting parked was a bit of a challenge to get things as level as possible and work around power stand and be able to get awning out to stay out of rain.

I would camp here again and recommend others give it a try. Lots to do in this part of the NC mountains.

    Perfect for Families

Family-friendly campground with plenty of fun activities for kids. Playground, fishing pond, disc golf, recreation and game area, and ice cream trailer. Our site was nicely shaded and fairly level. Fire pit and picnic table at each site. There appears to be a lot of long-term residents but all sites were very well kept and the campground was very clean. The best part was the friendly staff!

    Packed but quiet off season

We had a nice time visiting Mocksville. There are a lot of cute restaurants near by.

We stayed here as part of our thousand trails membership.

The campground is mostly annual people with permanent lots. We don’t mind that at all. Those types always seem to be laid back and quiet. The spots are really close together. And the roads are sooo narrow.

The dog park was nice and walking the park was relaxing.

Unfortunately a lot of the activity type things (arcade, mini-golf, horseshoes, etc) weren’t available because we visited in the off season. Bummer but to be expected even though we had super nice weather.

Not really the campgrounds fault I don’t think, but there were SO MANY FLIES. I spent the weeks killing the ones that snuck in. So annoying.

We visited with our 33’ travel trailer. Site D64 is plenty long but has the y of the road surrounding you. Verizon service has 2 bars. Occasionally got a little spotty while working, but our hotspot worked enough. Streaming did get dicey.

    Lots to do in Fries!

We were lucky enough to call just after a cancellation was made in the RV Park…making room for us for 4 nights. Tom was really communicative throughout and with the short notice of the reservation…he even helped with suggestions of nearby groceries in Galax and directions to the RV site. We arrived at 8 pm, and he greeted us with a smile and escorted us to our site. Full hook ups. Cable TV was a luxury for us! Great WiFi the entire time; even for a couple of zoom calls! In the morning we saw that most of the sites are parallel to the creek that runs through the site. And while the ones that are up a little further are off creek..they have either large decks or porch swings right on their site. But all are gravel, level and meticulously raked and cleaned upon arrival! No Campfires allowed; propane portable fire pit is ok. No Tents. Dogs supposed to be on a leash. Bath house is small and clean; one room for men and one for women. Each has a sink, toilet and walk in shower. (one person can use at a time, as there are no stalls.) Catch the head of the 58 mile trail just 2 blocks from the RV site. (Just head down to the River, just beyond the caboose with ice cream!) We rode the first 6 miles (and back) of the New River Trail to the train trestle and through the tunnel, just beyond. Easy ride with 2% grade. Kayak and bike drop offs are available at the gas station. (About 2 miles down.) Arrived back just in time fir a great fried catfish lunch at The Cafe; with indoor and outdoor seating…although outside benches do not have service. Late in the afternoon, there were some musicians staying next to us who were playing banjo and fiddle. We sat on the porch swing just across the creek and listened to the beautiful sounds. Overall great site! But that also means to book early!

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

    Small town relaxation

This was the first campground we got to try in Virginia and it did not disappoint! There’s a lot of ppl who stay here long term bc it’s so great. A train goes by across the river every few hrs and we love hearing it! The water is clear and so fun to cool off in. The bathrooms aren’t far. The owner is so friendly and lives on the grounds. He sells wood and has a small store. The only negative for me is no picnic table but we bring a folding one now! The palisades are gorgeous and a must see!! Edit: he has put picnic tables in now.

One mile off the Interstate, but you would never know it! A large hill at the west side of the park blocks most of the noise. There's even cows on the hill! Management Retaliation & Discrimination

We have been happy members of Thousand Trails for several years and have created several friend groups of whom I hope would verify my claim as accurate. My husband, Paul(OP), has always had the heart of a servant and has helped many throughout Lake Myers and Forest Lake. He enjoys playing cork hole and building campfires. We have so many wonderful friends at the campgrounds that we hang out with even when we don’t have our camper in. It has always been a source of stress relief and relaxation for us. We have never been ones to instigate gossip or spread it. We sit quietly to ourselves or with friends, play corn hole and enjoy the fire, food& friendships. Our dog LOVES to exercise on the golf cart trails! Last YEAR, one of the teen boys that lives in the campground full time came to our site and invited our 16 y/o(at the time) son to join him and a gang of other kids that found a villa unlocked. The private investigator we hired found out that the number of kids involved goes into the double digits. We advised Susan, the manager, of the identity of as many involved as we could. Our son was not involved in the actual damage and nothing further was said to us by Susan or any other representative of Lake Myers, Thousand Trails or Encore. Charges were attempted against our son alone, but when our attorney advised that all kids involved or none(some parents had already paid restitution… I offered but was not responded to) were to be charged then charges were dropped. We have been camping every 2 weeks in and one week out at Forest Lake with no problems at all until recently when my husband couldn’t get logged into our account to make his payment. I tried as well and couldn’t get logged in. Turns out that our entire national membership has been canceled by the Lake Myers manager with the reasoning of“unsupervised child”. That is totally falsified. How many of you see Mon or Dad following their older kids around? Our son had never cause any trouble. Funny, the kid that lives there who coaxed our son to the villas still lives there on site because his mom works for a prominent attorney that I guess Lake Myers is afraid of.(Well, mine is good too!) Ban our son from Lake Myers? Fine… but ban all the ones involved, don’t do it out of retaliation against us because you lack evidence. Want to ban our whole innocent family from Lake Myers? Fine… but ban all the families of those involved. If your going to accept money of one mom to let her stay because she works for an attorney, then the offer needs to be given to all. But why cancel our whole family national membership? THAT is excessive and we will be filing a lawsuit if it’s not fixed asap. We just bought a brand spanking new camper, new golf cart, paid membership fees(I want refunded if our membership is not going to be honored due to a dishonorable and unethical manager with no factual evidence and can apparently be paid off). Seriously! Existing campers can’t complain publicly about anything at the campground without the fear of their memberships being terminated for it. This is morally wrong. I have contacted membership services just to be told they can’t do anything. I call BS. This needs a fair resolution immediately.

Small Family Owned CG on the Blue Ridge Parkway

The campground is so convenient to the BRP! The owners are friendly and easy to talk to. The campground is clean, scenic, and hilly.  We had no issue navigating with our 27' trailer.  We saw several class A's and a large 5th wheel here too.  All RV sites are on gravel and level. Sites are full hookup with 20, 30, and 50 amp receptacles available  Firewood is available.   We used the 2-washer laundry (not coin-op $5 wash and dry paid at office) with no issues.  Yesterday we drove to nearby Mt. Airy (Mayberry) and enjoyed the Andy Griffith Museum.  We would definitely stay here again.

    Greystone RV Park

The only place with hook-ups this close to Pilot Mountain

This park,to be honest when we first arrived, made us ask:"Is this IT??" Our first impressions were that it was a parking lot.  we even looked for the rest of the campground.  It's 10 spots, full hook-up, with an awesome view of Pilot Mountain. Each pad is concrete, with a picnic table, fire pit and full hook-ups. But after we set up, and caught out breath, we realized that this park is EXACTLY what we wanted. The main feature is the view, and what a view it has! This is more for a mature crowd, as there's really nothing here for kids to do (no playground or pool) which for us was nice. It was good to have a campfire and sit and watch the sun set. The other campers were very friendly, but you can tell when talking to the owners, that this is a labor of love and hope! In the morning, getting up early to watch the sunrise light up the mountain like a candle really set the tone for a beautiful day. Next time I want to have time to hike the mountain, but for this trip, just relaxing and watching nature was worth every breath.

Wagoner — New River State Park

Awesome park for peace and quiet

This was our first time camping and it was great. The campground was very nice and well kept the camp host was awesome and helped me get our wildwood in the spot just right. It's a beautiful quiet campground, just what we needed on our maiden trip. The neighbors were very nice and helpful too. We can't wait to go back..! The full hook ups ended with all fees was $35 a night .

    Fries New RiverTrail RV Park

    Absolutely Stellar Campground!

Fries New River Trail RV Campground is just off the New River Trail in Fries, VA. I loved the whole campground - it’s small, less than 20 sites - but each site is beautifully landscaped and maintained. Our site was completely level and had a deck, perfect for a morning yoga routine. The sites were full hook-ups and the campground had really good Wi-Fi. We stayed for four nights, but I want to go back in the fall when the leaves are turning.

The New River runs through the town adding to the scenic-ness of the town. There is a restaurant and an ice cream shop, but the real attraction is the New River Bike Trail. The start of the trail is less than 1/2 mile from the campground and travels along the New River for miles. It is also possible to reach Galax by bike along a spur - about 11 miles from the campground.

    Wonderful stay at Fries!

    Pioneer Village

    Beautiful property!

This was a overnight stop but it was a great find! We were in a full hook up pull through site 20. Gravel pads with a picnic table and fire ring. Sites were open but a decent size, and mostly level. There was a lovely  stream that ran along the property with beautiful shade trees and lots of grass. We have 2 dogs and there was plenty of great area to walk them.  The bathhouse was very clean but there was no A/C and only a few small windows for ventilation. The whole property was very well kept and beautiful. Will definitely be back as we travel this way each year.

Verizon phone worked good, but not really any TV reception. But we were good with that!

What a great place to camp!

This is a great park! The staff are all nice and friendly, and the park is very well laid out and clean. You got full hookups, nice level sites, and two playgrounds. This place is full on the weekends so reserve in advance.

Also, the Mt. Airy town is nice to visit. You are close to all the amenities when staying here. Check out the Andy Griffith museum, Main Street, and the granite quarry.

    Fort Chiswell RV Park

Great stop between Maryland and Nashville

Awesome campground, quiet and less than a mile off of 81. All pull thru, full hookup, and level sites. Pool and bathhouse are open. We had only planned to stay the night but decided to stay a couple of days to let weather pass us by. Thanks to reviews in dyrt we made an informed decision to stay here. Office very helpful and friendly. Will stay here again in our way home. And great BBQ a mile away.

    Stone Mountain State Park Campground

    A really nice place

We stayed at the Stone Mountain campground 5 nights/6 days, and enjoyed every minute of it. There aren’t many trees between the RV/full hook up sites, but they’re far enough apart that you don’t feel like you’re on top of your neighbor. There is a gorgeous little creek that runs through the middle of the full hook up sites, which made it even more peaceful sitting around the fire at night, and our daughter loved exploring it during the day. The bathhouse was a ways away from our site (53), so we typically rode a bike or drove the truck. This could be problematic for someone with limited mobility, or small children that can’t hold it very long. But it wasn’t really an issue for us. The bathhouse was usually spotless, well stocked with toilet paper, well heated, and not very busy at all. The showers will get pretty warm, which surprised me, and the pressure is pretty good as well. However, you have to push the button down every 10-15 seconds, and the stall is pretty small. They are sufficient for washing off the sweat and dirt from spending a day hiking though. We did a lot of hiking, which is the reason we went. There are a wide assortment of trails, from easy and moderate, all the way to strenuous and advanced. All of them are equally gorgeous, but I highly recommend the loop trail, which takes you by the Stone Mountain falls, then around the base and over the summit of Stone Mountain, and by the Hutchinson homestead. You can also branch off that trail and go to the middle and lower falls, which were also absolutely gorgeous. The summit climb by the Hutchinson homestead is pretty strenuous, but very much worth the views. I’d really recommend taking a blanket and snacks, and resting on the top for a little breather and to take in all that surrounds you. The creek throughout the park is delayed harvest trout waters, which is great for people that enjoy fishing. The creeks are incredibly clear, and so serene. The park doesn’t allow campers to bring in, or harvest their own fire wood, but they do sell bundles at the check in station for $5. The staff was helpful and nice, and the park is very quiet, clean, and family friendly. Keep your eyes open, we saw wild turkey and deer in abundance.
