Overnight

Overnight stop on our trip south. We got in early enough that we were able to get a game of bowling in before they closed. The pizza was good too. We had a nice pull through.

Wouldn’t stay again

As far as the sites goes, ours was okay, but a lot of the sights were not level. All the sites to the left of the pond had the tongue on the ground and the rear jacks had pretty extreme crib blocks just to get the jacks to stabilize. The landscaping was not very well taken care of and the sites really need gravel. It was a muddy mess when it rained. On a positive note each site had a concrete pad.

The pool was extremely cold and had a lot of algae around the rim, but it does have the slide which my daughter enjoyed. The bowling alley had I think 6 lanes and it was pretty good. The putt putt golf is in rough shape so we didn’t even do it.

The staff that I dealt with were definitely odd. They weren't friendly at all, but rather very straight forward and weird. Altogether, I won’t stay here again. I will try on up the road at Fancy Gap or Mayberry on our travels through 77/74.

Beautiful campground, uncomfortable bed

There are a lot of good things to say about this campground and one negative.  We stayed in a camper cabin to break up a long drive and the mattress was so thin that we could easily feel the metal frame through the "mattress" (really a thin pallet--hence the 3 stars, rather than 5). This KOA really needs to upgrade their mattresses, especially if they're charging such a high price for a cabin without a bathroom. Now onto the good stuff: it's a clean campground with a nice pool area and good camp store. The bowling alley was great and the on-site cafe has really good pizza. Tent campers have good options: I liked the 3 sites near the camp store because they were grassy and roomy enough for both tent and canopy. Other tent sites at the back of the campground were smaller, level, and had gravel pads. RV sites to either side of the fishing pond were mostly level and looked easier to navigate than the ones at the back of the campground; however, RV sites at the back had more shade. Had the bed been comfortable, I would have given this place 5 stars. I would be happy to return again (but this time as a tent camper).

Great stop if passing through

We stopped here while driving down 81. It’s right off the highway, but nice and secluded. It’s a little barren (not enough trees) but the facilities and sites are quite nice. They even have a bowling alley on site! It’s nice enough we are stopping again on the way home.

Great Campsite

We only stayed here one night to break up a long trip.  The campsite was very clean, close to the interstate, and excellent Wi-Fi.  There are a lot of activities for the entire family, and we plan to return in the future for a longer stay.  We definitely recommend this campground if you are in the area.

Easy on/off, Clean

The campground is clean and well kept. Bathhouses are clean and adequate. Lots of recreation option but we were only using for an overnight stay. Easy access to/from 81. Don’t miss the giant pencil in downtown Wytheville.

Great campsite

Like a lot of the other reviewers I used this as a stopover but the campground is very nice with a lot of cool features, including some clever cabins.

It seems like a great place for kids with a pool with a waterslide.

The camp store is well provisioned and each site that I saw has a patio and a fire bowl.

Overall, ver pleasant and I'm glad I'll be staying on my way home.

Clean and convenient.

We stayed here for 1 night, to break up an 8-hour drive home from points south. The facility is very well maintained, the staff is very friendly and the location was convenient (1 mile off of 81). The campground does have a good bit of amenities, from a bowling alley, arcade, to a pool and a pond. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was that the sites are set up in a rather open setting, a large clearing, with a few very young trees, no shade, or wind breaks. The site served us well, as it broke up our trip, but it was not the type of site where I'd sit outside of our camper and enjoy the surroundings.

Very close to the highway

This was a great place to stay very close to the highway. We chose to be in the back area which is heavily wooded and very nice with the leaves changing colors. AT&T was LTE and only managed 2mb download so it was slow. The koa has Wi-Fi and it was 50 mb down so nice and fast.

Good overnight stay while travelling I-81

This is a good stopover campground while travelling.  I wasn't pleased with the quality of our sites, we stayed once going north and once coming home.  First site was a pull through, level but very close to neighbors with marginal area outside.  The site on the return trip was also a pull through but so unlevel I had to use a stack of 5 leggo type blocks to get the front of our motorhome leveled.  Water pressure varied at times.  Free cable which we didn't try, and free WIFI which was adequate are positives.  No escort to site, roads inside campground can be confusing.  Follow signs to campground, not your GPS! The streets to the campground are through a residential area, our GPS tried to take us down a mud cow trail marked as a street.  I'll probably not stay  here again since there are other campgrounds and parks in the area.

Great for a One Night Stop off I-81

We stayed here for a quick one night stop to break up our trip. It was a super convenient stop right off I-81 and had great truck stops off the exit as well. We have a 40’ class A and flat tow a Jeep. We stayed in back-in site 38. It was a decent site slightly off level, but nothing too crazy. When we stop here again, we’ll book a pull through so we don’t have to unhook the Jeep.

The Best Wifi/Internet!

We did an overnight stopover at the Wytheville KOA on our travels south and were very impressed with the campground. Easy exit off Rt 81, with several truck stops/gas stations at the exit to fill up. The roads are a bit hilly going into the campground, but we didn’t experience any issues.

Check-in was easy and the employees were very friendly. The grounds of the campground were well maintained and the sites were very level. It appeared that all the sites were pull through with the majority having cement patios, all of which made an overnight stop easy. Even though the sites were close together(not as close as most KOAs), they are situated so it doesn’t feel like you are on top of your neighbor.

The campground offered many amenities, but since our stay was a quick layover we did not have a chance to take advantage of them. While the sites were very nice, the highlight of this KOA is the internet! Out of all the campgrounds/RV parks we have travel to over the last few years, Wytheville had THE BEST wifi/internet we have experienced!

I would definitely include this KOA as a future stop on our travels.

Nice Camground...lots of Activities

Nice, clean campground with friendly staff. Outdoor pool, mini golf, bowling alley and more to keep everyone busy. We stayed on Labor Day weekend so it was crowded and of course it was a bit noisy but would definitely recommend anyone to stay here and we would definitely go back. They also have two dog parks in the campground which is nice for your furry family! 😊
