Byrd's Branch Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Frogs calling from the creek at night, the smell of woodsmoke drifting past a small country store, the sound of kids splashing in shallow water: these are the details campers tend to remember about Byrd's Branch. Set in the foothills outside Elkin, this privately owned campground sits alongside a creek lined with mature hardwoods, with a dairy farm backing up to one side and hiking trails threading directly through the property.

Cleanliness comes up consistently across reviews. Kristyn notes the bathrooms were "VERY clean and spacious with plentiful hot water," and multiple visitors mention the campground feels actively maintained rather than left to manage itself. Sites are level, and tent campers near the creek tend to have more separation from road noise than the RV sites, which sit closer to the main road. Some reviewers note the sound of passing cars from those spots, so tent campers who want more quiet may prefer to ask for creek-side placement.

Trails are one of the campground's strongest draws. "Miles of hiking trails connected directly to the campground," Kristyn writes, with routes heading toward Carter Falls at moderate intensity and easier paths running east toward Elkin and Grassy Creek Winery. Elkin Creek Winery is roughly a 20-minute walk along the road. The on-site country store stocks firewood and ice cream, and the owners have been noted for hosting occasional community events, including a post-Thanksgiving brunch one year.

Full hookups accommodate RVs up to 80 feet, with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections available. The campground is open year-round, accepts reservations, and allows pets. Fall color along the creek and trail corridors has drawn repeat visitors specifically for that season. WiFi is available on-site, and the dump station rounds out the utility options for longer stays.

Campers wanting a different setup nearby can look at Riverwalk RV Park, which sits along the Yadkin River a few miles southeast.

Clean, polite,

This camping spot is a hidden gem in the woods. You got hiking trails that lead right threw the campground up to Carter falls and down to elkin. Both primitive and full hook up available definitely will return again.

Clean quite friendly

Arrived day after Thanksgiving. Planed on staying one night on a quick stop over. The owners had a free Friends Giving brunch the next day. Food was home cooked and amazing. Very accommodating when we wanted to stay an additional night. We will return.

Clean and Scenic

Very nice campground. Our RV site had plugs for 50 or 30 amp, which was convenient. The bath house is on the back of the little store, a short walk for the tent campers / longer walk from the RV sites. Bathrooms were VERY clean and spacious with plentiful hot water. The store sells ice cream as well as firewood bundles for the fire pits.

Beautiful Fall foliage. Miles of hiking trails connected directly to the campground. The Carter Falls trails are more moderate-intensity but definitely worth it. The trails headed east toward Elkin and Grassy Creek Winery are more of an easy hike, with plenty of beautiful hardwoods and creeks to cross. The winery itself was beautiful and worth the trip.

We also visited Elkin Creek Winery while we were there. You could hike it, about a 20-min walk from the campground, along the road. The road seemed pretty safe. We were tired, so we drove. The winery was gorgeous and the proprietors were so kind. We went on Sunday when they had brick oven pizza - reservations are required, since they have limited quantities. It was one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had (Bacon Brie and a build-your-own with basil, tomato, and mushroom).

Very Nice

Byrd’s Branch is a newer campground with very clean facilities. Nice tent sites along a creek surrounded by mature trees. The nearby waterfalls are awesome and just a short hike from the campsite. Glad I stayed here.
