Dalton Wells Student Trust Land - Dispersed - CAMPING NO LONGER ALLOWED

Important Notice: Camping is no longer allowed at this location.

State Trust Lands Courthouse Wash Block previously included this dispersed camping area near Moab, where campers could access multiple undeveloped sites spread across open terrain. The dirt access road requires high clearance vehicles, with sandy conditions at the entrance that have caused problems for sedans and some SUVs. Sites were spaced over 100 feet apart across the area, providing natural separation between camping spots.

When operational, the area offered no amenities—no tables, fire rings, or water sources. Campers found level ground for tent and RV setup, with Verizon cell service reported at two bars. The location provided access to nearby mountain biking and hiking trails, including connections to the Klondike Bluffs trail system. "Plenty of trails for hiking and mountain biking nearby," notes Justin J..

Road conditions varied, with some visitors describing the access as bumpy but manageable for most vehicles, while others encountered more challenging sandy sections. The area attracted campers seeking privacy and dark sky conditions away from developed campgrounds.

Visitors often highlighted the spacious, private campsites and quiet atmosphere ideal for stargazing. However, the area is now closed to camping and sandy entrance conditions previously caused vehicle access issues.

Watch for deep sand

A sedan was stuck in sand when we pulled up to the entrance to where you can camp. A van and an SUV also got stuck. All had to be winched out. You can't stay overnight in the area before the entrance to BLM land.

Great Camping Experience!

This was a great spot to camp. There were a lot of options for campsites with enough room in between for plenty of privacy. I would recommend to anyone that wants a great view and a quiet night camping under the stars.

Good spot very dispersed

My girlfriend and I camped here a couple days ago. The road to get to the spot was a little bumpy but any car should be fine getting there. We did get there at night and couldn’t see much. There was nobody around us and was very private.

Decent view nothing special

Quite a few open sites scattered about. 100’+ between each site. No table. No fire ring. Flat ground. Plenty of trails for hiking and mountain biking nearby. Verizon LTE 2 bars.
