Fallen Peace Officer Dispersed

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Off Highway 191 northwest of Moab, Fallen Peace Officer Dispersed sits at the trailhead of the Fallen Peace Officer Trail system on Utah State Trust Lands. The terrain is open, with rocky and gravelly ground making up most of the area, though a few spots with softer soil work for tent setups. The access road has some rough patches and potholes, but several reviewers with rear-wheel-drive and low-clearance vehicles report getting in without trouble, particularly at the sites closer to the entrance. Rain can leave wet or soft spots further in, and reaching those back sites may require more ground clearance.

The area draws a noticeable share of ATV and OHV users, with larger rigs and off-road toys common on weekends and holidays. Crowd levels vary significantly by season and timing. Space is not usually a problem since the site spreads across several established areas, and later arrivals tend to find room when nearby dispersed options fill up. Highway noise from 191 is audible, especially at the sites closest to the road, though it does not appear to prevent sleep based on multiple accounts.

Fire rings built up by past campers are scattered throughout, and cell signal is reported as halfway decent by most visitors. There are no water, trash, or table facilities on site. Litter, including broken glass, has been noted by at least one reviewer, so footwear around camp is worth considering. As Greg L. notes, "No water, trash, tables" with a 14-day camping limit in effect. Campers wanting a more sheltered or developed setup nearby might consider South Klondike Bluffs / Road 142 Dispersed to the northwest.

Many campers appreciated the spacious sites accommodating large RVs and convenient access to Arches and Canyonlands. Highway noise and lack of amenities like water or restrooms are common concerns, though most found it suitable for short stays.

Great Free Spot

We wanted to explore Moab Giants and Arches with the kids, and this was a great base with a van. It was windy at some points but there are enough hills around to find a protected spot especially if you have a 4x4. Plenty of spots for bigger rigs. Road is a bit bumpy in, but we had no problem with our rear wheel drive. A lot of pre established areas with rock fire pits.

Great place for Arches and Canyonlands

Tons of space means it wasn't hard to find a spot. There are some spots with grass/soft ground access for tenting, but most are rocky and gravel. The routes in and through are a bit rough, but were manageable with a bit of careful navigating. Easy to find level-ish ground and made for a great campervan base for exploring the parks nearby. Lots of people using this as an ATV base, but it wasn't overly noisy or busy.

Dispersed camping close to Aches NP

Less than a half mile to park and sleep. The atv/dirt bike guys were quite after dark. It is close to the road so there is some occasional road noise. Less than a half hour from Arches

Easier Access to Sites

Easier access to sites than the South Klondike Rd if you’re pulling with low clearance vehicle. Camp fire rings are present. We stayed at the first site with a camp ring, only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the trash people leave behind- plenty of glass bottles and broken glass present. We picked some of it up so hopefully it won’t be bad for the next people! It is next to a busy road, but not too loud that we couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t worried about getting stuck despite impending rain. I would stay here again!

Easy, but nothing special

Right off the highway on the way into Moab. Very easy to pull off and spend the night. A little chewed up from tires and wet in spots. A couple of rough spots that you need a vehicle with ground clearance to go to the spots further in. Quite a bit of highway noise, but halfway decent cell service.

So easy and great access

We drove thru a few of the other nearby dispersed camping and they were full. Lots of room in here, beside highway but hidden in and lots of room. We stayed for 3 days and did both Arches and Canyonlands. We have a 42' 5th wheel, lots of options for us. There is also a camp host here.

Fallen Peace Officer Trail - nearby

This is a review for dispersed camping at Fallen Peace Officer Trail, in the Klondike bluffs near this location.

You can barely hear the highway, and the second morning there was a family cooking breakfast up on the bluff. Cool place to explore!

First night we slept in a tent because it was windy, second night we slept under the stars. only had a few noisy neighbors come in the middle of the night. It’s free, fire pits have been set up by past campers. Typically it’s larger family camps with Rvs and off roaming toys, but if it’s not a holiday weekend there will be room for those without off-roading vehicles.

No reception, no bathrooms, but a great fallback incase your original plans doesn’t work out. Good luck!
