Windy and no privacy

No privacy here at all. Lots of spaces to stay but you will be seen by your neighbors. Also extremely windy which made it impossible to cook food

Convenient and Private

Several sights close to the highway and very close to the entrance to the park. Most sites are on a flat near the highway easily accessible.

Do it!

Beautiful campground outside of capitol reef. Lots of fire pits and space. We had the perfect light snow of a sunset. Wild winds at night! Right near Pandora’s box trailhead

Mountain top

Came in hot one night right at dusk. Didn’t have much time to find a place. Lucked up on these spots. Soon as we turned in on the road there were campers and more campers. Finally found some tents and then some overland we rigs. We made our way to the top, which we didn’t know was literally wide open on the top of the hill. Mid night came and the wind was whooping out of the valley. The stars were so beautiful from here. Lucked up on a slice of heaven at this stop. This is where the weather changed for us. From 80 day and 50 night to 65 day and 40 nights. We went down to the gas station for fuel and breakfast. Best subway breakfast I have ever had.

Great spot for capitol reef

This is a great spot to camp if you plan on doing the northern part of capitol reef (Cassidy arch, Hickman bridge, grand wash).

Lots of RVs, but if you want more privacy just continue up the road.

If there is live music outdoors in Torrey you will probably hear it if you’re in a tent. The live music cut out around 11 pm.

A wonderful spot

After trying with no success to get a spot at Fruita, we ended up looking for BLM camping. Happened upon this (thanks to the app) and it was the best place we’ve camped to date!

Not great for tent

Very windy, and crowded. Everyone was respectful but we didn’t want to stay more than one night because it wasn’t great in the tend

Dispersed camping

This camping area is not BLM, it is a tiny corner of the Dixie NF. But still great spot outside of Capitol Reef to get cell service from the Torrey Utah towers.

A little gem

This place was a little gem. You can pretty much park anywhere for the night. It right outside the park and has great views. I was fine pulling in with my Toyota Rav4, but have to take it slow. Also there are 2 porter potties. I stayed here 3 different nights and will go back again for sure.

Great for being free

This area is comprised of loosely organized “spots” many with rock fire pits. Most spots are obvious with back in or pull through parking, but other areas are more open and just up for the taking. There’s no official number of spots and as long as you and your neighbor are comfortable, some squeezing in can certainly take place. The area is not maintained and can be rough, but all type of vehicles where there. It’s very close to the highway but not noisy and is quiet and dark at night. It’s a beautiful setting with classic southern Utah red cliffs as your backdrop. Capitol Reef visitors center is 7 miles east. The entrance is not marked and is a simple dirt road, but this map location in Dyrt is correct. We were there April 5, 2021 and it was pretty full by evening time. It was extremely windy our one night and the ground is not suited to cheap tent stakes so bring some big ones. We were in camper but we watched our neighbor’s tent blow up and over the hill. No water, but there were two port-a-potties.

Nice!

Stayed for one night. Pulled in about 30 minutes before sunset on Saturday and there was still spots available. I’ll be back.

Great find; Views and convenient

The views from this area are excellent and you are right next to the entrance to Capitol Reef. We pulled in Nov 1, 2020 and only one other vehicle all night. We had a great site right next to some hiking trails. No amenities. We understand it gets quite full in the fall.

A great site for the price!

Just to let folks know, this is not a BLM site. BLM sites have a pay station right when you pull into the campground. This one does not, and I believe it is Utah state land that is managed by SITLA . (Google that if you want.). Anyway it was Wednesday October 21, and we pulled in here about 2 PM. I would say the campground was about half full and we did manage to find a spot that was pretty level. There were several spots that had small trees near them and those were all taken for obvious reasons.

We were traveling on Highway 24 South going west, and about 5 miles past the northernmost entrance to the park, is the dirt road that leads to the campground. Past the first dirt road there’s another dirt road with other campers, but we did not go down there.

The best part of this free camping ground is that the Internet is working great! We are not on Wi-Fi, but we have unlimited data and are very happy with our reception.

It is a little close to Highway 24, but as I write this at 11 PM, I don’t hear a thing on the road.

I highly recommend this free campground!

Convient but crowded

Short distance from Capital Reef NP, but this specific area was very crowded when I was here. It was also very windy at night, which might be an issue if you're running a roof top tent.

Jaw Dropping Views From Every Direction

Spectacular views. There were quite a few others here, but we got a great spot pulling in at almost 6pm in September. Maybe we lucked out, but winds were calm and bugs were nonexistent. Porta potties were clean and didn’t smell. AT&T WiFi was good enough for Zoom school.

Beautiful Spot

Easy to get to no matter what clearance there is a site for everyone. The only services available are porta potties but the views are unmatched. Pre built fire pits are great as well.

June 15, 2020 overnight

I chose this site based on the review available for the site and because I wanted good spacing from other campers during the Covid situation and to that end this site although occupied with other campers provided good separation from fellow campers, I was some what limited on site selection due to the car I drive which has low clearance but found an accessible site next to an arroyo that was somewhat unprotected; I mention this because the campground sits at the base of valley that funnels the winds into the campground and it made setting up and the visit very uncomfortable; the winds were so strong they stirred up msssive dust clouds of fine red clay that made tent camping miserable, there are more protected sites that higher clearance vehicles could use against the adjacent hillside and campers with trailers may be more comfortable and there were large rvs On site. I will agree with the previous reviewer and say the morning panoramas are beautiful and there are services near the campground at the Capitol reef lodge area and additionally at Torrey. My stay was on June 15,2020 and the other campers were respectful. Lastly be aware there are hoards of small flies that relentlessly swarm the site but this may b a summertime phenomenon. 2 last items I could not navigate to the site on google maps but Apple Maps immediately found the site for navigation and lastly I had 2 bars with att at my site.

Beautiful, quiet, and dispersed

This is a medium sized area, right outside of Captial Reef. Cute and clean. No water, or RV hookups but has 2 porta -potties. Easy to miss if you aren’t paying close attention!
