Within Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, Energy Lake Campground operates as the Forest Service's most amenity-rich camping option from March through November. The facility features four distinct loops, with newer Loop A offering compacted gravel sites while Loop D provides paved sites that RV owners prefer. Loop B has been converted entirely to single-room rental cabins.
Campers consistently note the campground's well-maintained facilities, particularly the individual shower rooms with reliable water pressure rather than typical push-button systems. Each loop maintains its own restroom and shower house, with coin-operated laundry facilities available. The no-wake Energy Lake sits adjacent to the camping areas, accessible via multiple launch points and short trails from waterfront sites. Daniel B. found it "my favorite" among Land Between the Lakes campgrounds, citing "showers and canoe and kayak rentals" as key draws.
The campground provides canoe and kayak rentals at $10 per hour, though availability becomes limited during peak periods and hot weather. A designated swimming area operates without lifeguards, while basketball and volleyball courts offer additional recreation. The small playground features basic equipment including swings and a metal slide. The beach area consists primarily of gravel and mud rather than sand, which some families find disappointing.
Sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet with electric, water, and sewer hookups available. Loop D offers the most level sites with lake views, while hillside locations in the same loop may challenge tent campers seeking flat ground. Cell service remains spotty throughout the campground. "The staff at this campground is AMAZING," reports one regular visitor, noting their knowledge of both the recreation area and nearby towns Aurora and Cadiz.
Campers seeking more primitive experiences might consider LBL FS154 - Dispersed for backcountry-style camping nearby.
