Best Campgrounds near Friendswood, TX

I recently stayed at the Galveston Island KOA during a much-anticipated getaway, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience overall! Nestled just a short distance from the beach and local attractions, this KOA is the perfect base for exploring all that Galveston has to offer. Its a bit away from town, but that adds to the tranquilness of the park.  Accommodation: The RV sites were well-maintained and spacious, with clean concrete pads that provided easy access for our motorhome. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of privacy between sites and the beautiful greenery surrounding the campground, as we had a corner site with dog pen. Some spots, like ours, even offered nice trees for shade and added charm. The amenities included water, electricity, and sewer connections, all functioning properly during our stay. Facilities: The campground featured clean restrooms and showers that were well-kept, which is always a plus for RV travelers. The camp store was stocked with essentials.  The KOA’s location is exceptional. It’s just a few miles from the heart of Galveston, making it easy to access the beach, restaurants, and attractions like the historic Pleasure Pier and the Strand. We especially loved how close it was to the beach—it was a quick drive(or a nice bike ride) to the sandy shores, where we spent hours soaking up the sun. Activities and Atmosphere: The staff were friendly and eager to help with information about local activities and attractions. The KOA offered recreational options like a swimming pool. The campground maintained a family-friendly atmosphere that made it easy to unwind and enjoy nature. Tips for Future Guests: If you plan to visit during peak season, make reservations in advance to secure a good spot, as this campground can get busy. Especially if you want a cabin. Don’t miss the chance to explore the beach during sunset—it was truly a breathtaking experience! 

Final Thoughts: Our experience at the Galveston Island KOA was memorable and enjoyable. It was the first time out in our new motorhome.  The combination of respectful staff, clean facilities, and a prime location made it a fantastic home base for our beach adventures. I’d highly recommend this KOA to anyone looking to explore Galveston while enjoying the comforts of camping. We left with wonderful memories and hope to return soon!

We love this beach. It’s our third time staying here, and each time it’s been quiet, peaceful, and hardly any other campers. We worried a little about the tide this time, but we kept an eye on it and it didn’t come near us. We stayed here in early December without a permit, and it was fine. The permits you buy are valid from January to December and we had heard that they don’t really enforce the permit rule this late in the year. The sheriff drove by a few times, as well as some beach workers and others who looked to be in an official capacity, and nobody stopped to check our permit. Nice sunrise and an amazing sunset behind the houses. Good cell reception. Beach isn’t really flat, it slopes down towards the water, but it’s close enough.

Stayed here overnight for a catch up on groceries, laundry, and some errands. Staff was great & has a large onsite laundry room that takes card. Also has daily trash valet that is nice. Only reason I’m giving 4 stars is there are some cars parked along the road inside and it’s a tight campground. If you are a large rig could be a little more difficult to maneuver through & the private shower was dirty (there were a lot of kids at the pool and I believe they had been playing in it). You are right next to interstate, but it’s convenient to stores and easy to get in & out of gate.
