The Original Family Campground, Oakdale opened in 1925 as a campground, motor court, built around the largest swimming pool in Texas at that time, the 330,000-gallon Oakdale Plunge. Oakdale is one of the only private RV parks in the country listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For almost 100 years, Oakdale has been home to many events, from family reunions, RV rallies, swimming parties, and music concerts.

Sites #89-108 in the Cross Timbers Camping Area. Non-equestrian tent camping and small trailers (20 feet or less) are also allowed in these sites. Sites have pull-off parking; they do not have electricity. Maximum combination of people and/or horses is eight per site. Be prepared to use a "string line" to secure horses; do not tie horses to trees or shrubs. You must dispose of manure and waste hay. All horses need a negative Coggins test less than 12 months old.
We have pull through sites to support large class-A motorhomes with a tow behind vehicle and also smaller back in spaces for truck campers and trailers.
All RV spots include full hookup, including electricity of 30 or 50 Amp, city water and sewer connection at all spaces.

This is a great primitive beach area. There is adequate parking at this ramp. This is one of the three ramps on the lake that are functional when the lake drops to 16 feet low.
Steele Creek Park is a Corps of Engineering park which offers primitive camping and there are limited facilities in the Park. The park is located just south of Morgan and Lakeside Marina. It is an open access Park. There are two primary areas of the park. The first is on the river channel side of the park and is on the north side of the Steele Creek Park. This area has great camp sites on a bluff overlooking the lake. This side also has some good natural beach area below the camp sites. The southern section of the park overlooks Steele Creek itself. This is a brushy creek and while there is some swimming areas available, it is not as swim friendly as the other side. Each side of the park has a boat ramp. This is a remote park area and is patrolled on some frequency by the Sheriff’s Department. Boat launching is FREE at both ramps.

The site has lots of shade trees with a view of the lake (not lakeside). Sites are not on top of each other, but no type of barrier between sites. Water had a terrible smell.
Despite it being the beginning of spring break in Texas & the amount of people here, it is fairly quiet.
If you’re camping with others, there are 3 double RV sites on this end of the park.

We screwed up and booked a different spot and our camper was too long. Oakdale was able to accommodate us on short notice. The staff was friendly and informative. Our kids had a great time in the expansive pool and enjoyed the snow cone stand across the street. The adult enjoyed the well-stocked pool bar!
Beautiful park with great trails and stunning views of the lake. Lots of trees and grassy areas. Bathrooms are clean but older for sure. Site was in the smaller side for RVs and not the most level.
The facilities at the campground are great, but other people there were extremely rude. Dino tracks are very cool! Pretty crappy cell service in our site.

I've stayed at this campground on two separate occasions, August of 2023 and October of 2023. Management here does a good job. Campsites are level many are concrete and provide Electric, water and cable also free Wi-Fi.
Nice, quiet CG for our overnight stay. Plenty of amenities and shade trees.
Located off the frontage road of I-20. Road noise was not a bother.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They even guide you to your camp spot.

There may not be a lot of trails, but they are very nice. The sites are oddly level, even though they do not look like they would be.
Site 01 is a great spot, that feels about the most secluded.
Watch out for all the spider webs on the trails, if you hike early in the morning... We camped at Meridian State Park in a 28 foot Travel Trailer.
We stayed for a few nights while traveling through Fort Worth and enjoyed this park. It was a great location, quiet and had a playground for our kids.

Stayed here for about a week. It's sooo beautiful and peaceful! I can't remember the site number, but it was overlooking the water. I went fishing several times but never caught anything, despite seeing a lot of activity in the water. But that's okay because it was fun either way. I travel pretty self-contained but it was nice to be able to grab some water as needed.
The wind was crazy a few nights. I had to put a tarp over my tent and pray lol! There were caterpillars all over that would sting... a mighty sting! All in all, it was a wonderful time and I'll definitely be going back again!
Dinosaur Valley SP
So wanted to see the dinosaur tracks! But it rained before we arrived and they were all under water. The trails on the other side of the river were all closed, mud and treacherous terrain. The inner trail takes you along the river and has several signs with information. The campsites are nestled in the foliage and nice spacing between. You can totally get the crustaceous era feel going. The foliage is also a nice noise damper. Electric and water plus hook thing at each site. Didn’t see any modern time critters during our visit, there were raccoon tracks on the trails and one deer track. Easy ride (bike) road through the campground. Older but well maintained showerhouse. The primitive camping is right on the river and remote sites are available. Dinosaur World is right down the road which would be cool with kids. Go learn about and then actually walk where the dinosaurs did. I am totally visiting again, I want to see the tracks.
We were in site 020, electric only. No shade in this spot! Needed 2 blocks on the left side to level. Play ground, hiking, beautiful river! Many deer walking through the park. We were only here for one night, really wish we had longer to explore!
I have visited this park several times, and it was my first state park to explore when I was a kid. The Paluxy river runs through this park. When there’s been plenty of rain there are lots of places to swim! The blue hole is my favorite swimming area in this park, it has some deep areas, and I’ve heard of some undertows being there, so children should be supervised closely. There are some large rocks jutting out over some deep water in this area that are fun to jump from! To get to the hike in sites, be prepared to wade through the river. I believe it is a 2 mile hike to get to the most remote primitive site. Also, when the river is low you can see lots of dinosaur tracks! If you have extra time in Glen Rose, Fossil Rim is right around the corner! Both Dinosaur Valley and Fossil Rim are great places to take kiddos.
We pulled up about 8pm and snagged one of the northern campsites just in time to watch the sunset over the water from our elevated overlook.
We only stayed the one night but it was a quiet spot with trees on all sides and a small covered bench table and plenty of parking for two-three small vehicles or one larger camper.

Love this COE campground located off of Lake Whitney, open year round. About an hour from Fort Worth and Waco. Most sites are heavily shaded, with plenty of solar charging, too. Each site has a table (most are covered), with fire pits. Water is spaced evenly between sites. Both loops have pit toilets and dumpsters, as well as a boat launch. Popular place to launch and lots of day use. Flies can be a nuisance. T-mobile service is great. We were able to get work and attend virtual classes.
Great campground with big shaded sites. Site 17 was right by the main walking trail that overlooks the river and there was a way to get down to the river from our site which was amazing. This allowed us to go down to river and explore and find tracks without going to the main area every time we wanted to. The parking slab was kind of short and our length wasn’t even the max size. The bathroom was very clean and the campground was well maintained. Staff was super nice and camp store has some of the basics if you needed it.
This was our first RV park to stay at with our new RV. We are from out of state and we’re visiting family in the Aledo area. We were welcomed at the office and check in was quick and painless. They even called us ahead to check on us and our arrival time to make sure we would be checked in quickly. The facility is a bit dated, reminds me of the parks my family traveled to when I was a kid, but clean and accommodating. The showers were in need of updated shower heads but other than that it was nice. The slips themselves were concrete and for the most part level. It took us no time to level and have our RV ready to use. The hookups were all in working order and easy to access. The pool is nice and clean, shallow for small children or if you just want to float around in the sun. It wasn’t ever crowded while we were there. There were a couple dog parks and three bath houses. All in all it was a pleasant stay. Shade is limited, welcome to Texas, but there were site with trees. We will be staying again while visiting for sure.
Tent sites are walk-in to the other side of the end of the lake, and can be pretty rickety with loose rocks getting there. Was good practice for backpacking, since parking is closeby, but not very convenient. P008 is probably the only site suitable for hammock camping. Everything else is flat and exposed, next to the shore.
We were woken up by loud boats trolling the shore and men shouting around midnight both nights we were there, and could hear conversations from the RV area.
Great sites, privacy, and short walk to one of the greatest bathhouses I’ve visited within the TX SP system. Great trails and tons of exploring the park. From its Dino tracks in the river to the wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Site consist of sandy gravel which high winds created a dust storm making a gritty mess of everything inside and out

Eat at Granny Clark’s in Dublin TX. Blue plate special and buffet. Brookshires Grocery and Tractor Supply in Comanche Stephenville 30 miles from campground has Walmart, H‑E‑B, CVS, Walgreens, but no Lowes or Home Depot.
This park was definitely out in the middle of nowhere, with a long peaceful drive full of wildlife. We made it to the park entrance, check in was quick. We arrived on a week day and they ranger informed us the camp store was closed until weekend and no firewood. Closest store with firewood was 30min away. They lake was beautiful. We were right beside the restroom and shower facilities which was great! We came to stay for one night, we had a roof top tent so the site we had was nice and would make a perfect side for a RV but for us it could’ve been wider for our ladder but we were close to the restroom which we wanted. The restrooms were clean, could use a little update, and water was warm but not hot. Lots of wildlife around! I would stay again but I don’t think it’s the best place to go for a winter camping trip. Thank you Texas state parks!
Campground is located on the Paluxi River, there are actual dinosaur footprints still in the rocks in the riverbed!
Been to this park a couple of different times it has rock climbing boating,fishing, trails for walking, hiking. separate camping loop for tents and also separate one for horses. We have camped there in February, in June and also October
