Rockin' K RV Park and Horse Motel

Cozy, Quiet and Easy to Find - great location

Easy to find on 281 heading to Hamilton.  Hico is a perfect place to stop and explore.  A TX historical treasure with the Billy the Kid Museum downtown!   I enjoyed the peace and quiet while staying here at great rates.  The host was incredible, available and gave us space! Love the cowboy grill!   Heading over to the farm area - my kids got to feed the mini goats and mini donkey- very fun at Tiny Town at GSD Ranch (their sister property with cabins to rent next door)! We will be back!

    Steele Creek Park Campground

free & full of nature - wonderful for nomads!

We enjoyed this free campsite as we were making our way down to San Antonio, Texas. It had a water spicket, which was perfect for nomad living. We were able to wash our hair, cookware, rinse off, and enjoy free potable water. The small things, right?

The site we choose was private and in close walking distance to pit toilets. It has a small trail in the back, which led to the small lake. The dogs enjoyed being off-leash and the trees surrounding us was peaceful. The fire pit was wonderful and I can see why big groups would enjoy staying here!

There was some fast-food trash around the campsite, but we did not mind picking it up. Reminder: leave it better than you found it. Overall: wonderful experience and perfectly comfortable free campsite for nomads.

Our Google Maps GPS was giving us issues on the entrance location of this site, since it is tucked away behind neighborhoods, so we relied on the maps and roads to lead us there.

    Hunter Park

I had a great time here

Hunter Park in Texas is truly a great destination for those who love camping. I had the opportunity to experience and feel the fresh air and peace here. Although the terrain is relatively flat and the trees are sparse, the closeness to nature made me feel relaxed. The weather can change quite dramatically, so I recommend being well prepared. A big plus is its proximity to Dinosaur Valley State Park and Lake Granbury, where you can enjoy activities like hiking and boating. Hunter Park is truly the perfect place for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life!

    Hunter Park

    Peaceful

It’s a pretty awesome place to camp and it’s really quiet. There are restrooms but no water or electricity but they are really good at maintaining the restrooms (stocked with toilet paper and keeping it clean) they are particular about you only staying 10 days so just be mindful of that.

    Possum Kingdom State Park Campground

    Not a true campsite

If you want to really camp , and not in a 50 footer , this is not a place to do it . Maybe the sites behind the lake would be better . We have camped across the country with a 12 footer teardrop 3 times . . This is my least favorite campsite ! Pads are broken up almost to the point of dangerous. Walked around in flip flops and had tar balls attach to my feet.

Guide to Stephenville

Camping sites near Stephenville, Texas include options within a 30-mile radius in Erath County, where elevations range from 1,100 to 1,300 feet. The area features rolling hills dotted with oak and pecan trees, creating natural shade at many campgrounds. Spring rainfall averages 3-4 inches monthly between March and May, making this season particularly lush for campers.

What to do

Dinosaur tracks exploration: At Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground, visitors can see actual dinosaur footprints preserved in the riverbed. "This place is awesome. One of the best natural swimming holes I've found near DFW. There are dinosaur fossils everywhere," notes Julie W., who gave the park five stars.

River activities: The Paluxy River offers swimming opportunities during warmer months. A camper at Dinosaur Valley RV Park mentioned, "Guests of DVRVP can access the river by following a small trail at one corner of the park by the entrance of DVSP. Our family spent a whole day in the river a minute walk from our camper."

Fishing: Proctor Lake provides excellent fishing opportunities about 35 miles southwest of Stephenville. "Great fishing place, friendly staff," writes Charly S. about Sowell Creek Park, adding it's "a great place to fish hybrid striped bass."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the room to spread out at Stephenville area campgrounds. At Green Deer RV Park, visitors enjoy the layout. A reviewer noted it "has two full bathrooms complete with showers, work out room, washer and dryers and an area for meetings. An outside area under a huge pecan tree with small tables and chairs for hanging out with friends."

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness receives frequent positive mentions. At Lost Creek RV Park, a camper described it as "Beautiful rv park. Not the kind of place you would want to stay if you're looking to get away from it all as it's right in town, but super convenient if your looking for a place to stop for a night or two in a park that's safe and well maintained."

Equestrian accommodations: Horse owners have specialized options near Stephenville. A reviewer at 4C's Rodeo Ranch & RV Park wrote, "Lovely park. Beautiful location and property surrounded by oak trees with an abundance of horses, cattle, a few donkeys and one goat. What you should know

Pet policies vary: Some camping sites near Stephenville have strict pet regulations. One camper at Sowell Creek at Proctor Lake warns: "There are stickers for you dog owners so beware in some areas," while another notes the presence of "flies swarming everywhere from trashcans and trash bins."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Several campgrounds offer water recreation for children. "We walked to the Dino tracks from our sites too! Fishing was good," shares Tiffany H., who stayed at Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Playground facilities: Kids appreciate dedicated play areas at several campgrounds. A visitor at Dinosaur Valley RV Park mentioned, "DVRVP has a playground, swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit and plenty of green space for kids to roam and explore."

Educational opportunities: The region offers unique learning experiences for children. "Explore dinosaur tracks! Very nice campground," writes Cathy B. about her family's visit to Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground.

Tips from RVers
