Tent camping near Cleburne, Texas spans free primitive sites along the water to reservable tent campsites with electrical hookups. Cedar Creek Park Campground at Lake Whitney offers primitive tent sites with covered picnic tables, fire rings, and water access at most sites. De Cordova Bend, managed by the Brazos River Authority, provides free tent camping with a 10-day maximum stay limit and features picnic tables and grills near the water.

Most tent sites in the Cleburne area are situated on open terrain with limited shade, though early arrivals can secure spots under mature oak trees at Cedar Creek. Vault toilets are available at Cedar Creek, while De Cordova Bend typically has portable toilets during peak season. Both locations operate on a first-come, first-served basis, though Meadowmere Park & Campground offers reservable tent sites with electrical hookups for those preferring more amenities. A visitor commented that Cedar Creek has "big open fields and mature oak tree shade" with water and fire rings provided next to covered picnic tables.

The tent camping around Cleburne puts campers close to water recreation, with most campgrounds situated along lakes or rivers. Areas like De Cordova Bend offer opportunities for wildlife viewing, particularly deer that frequent the area at night. During summer months, tent campers should prepare for heat with appropriate shade structures, as one camper noted that De Cordova Bend has "lots of sun and just a little shade, arrive early for a treed spot or bring shade awnings." Cedar Creek provides a "super clean rock bottom" lake experience with campsites that are "quiet" and "spaced out." Off-season camping is recommended for those seeking solitude, as summer weekends can become crowded, particularly at water-access sites popular with boaters and swimmers.

      Rocky Creek Park

Nice park with water, electric hookups, and showers. Located right on the water. Spots are plenty large enough for multiple cars and there are two hiking trails. Solid spot for RVs and vans that want a beautiful lake view.

      The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

      Disappointing and unnecessarily confrontational experience.

I booked and paid for a campsite at The Vineyards in my self-contained Sprinter camper van. I checked in without issue and had already spent one night there when the park manager, Lisa, approached me while I was relaxing inside my van to inform me that my vehicle was not welcome.

She stated that the city requires RVs to have hookups and be commercially manufactured. However, the campground’s published policies explicitly allow management to approve converted camper vans (and I am fully self-contained). It also allows for truck campers, which I suppose theoretically could have sewer hookups, but I assure you my custom converted Sprinter is more aesthetic than a truck camper, if that was her concern (no offense to my truck camper friends).

I also could not find the city ordinance she was referring to.

I understand that campgrounds have rules and that management has discretion to enforce them. What I don’t understand is why my reservation was accepted, why I was allowed to stay overnight, or why the situation needed to be handled so confrontationally.

When I offered to leave if they would refund my unused second night, Lisa told me it was too late for a refund and that I might as well stay.

So apparently my van was prohibited until refunding my money became the alternative.

I wasn’t causing a disturbance, requesting special accommodations, or asking to use facilities I hadn’t paid for. I was simply enjoying a campsite I’d reserved and paid for.

The campground itself is lovely, which makes the experience even more disappointing. A straightforward, respectful conversation about their policies would have been entirely reasonable. Instead, I was made to feel unwelcome at a place where I was already a paying guest.

If you’re traveling in a self-contained converted camper van, I’d strongly recommend getting written approval before booking, regardless of whether your reservation is accepted. And given that I am now reading other complaints of the staff being rude, I might avoid this spot altogether.

      Oak Park Campground

      Nice and quite today

Sites are nice. Not too close to each other. Lots of mature trees. Very quiet today…. We’re getting a bunch of rainfall. It’s only the 2nd time we’ve camped in our new trailer and we were thinking of canceling but decided might as well check it out.
When we arrived this morning we saw about 6 white tail deer.

Down side… don’t trust the direction on Apple Maps. We were sent down the wrong road and was almost stuck in the mud. Also bathrooms are a little rough… toilets do flush always a good thing.

Nice place and empty. They just close before 5 so you can’t come last minute easily. Empty and quiet

      Plowman Creek

      Peaceful

Peaceful little park that sits just outside of the lake so the cove is nice to swim in . It’s Texas so there’s plenty of ants and mosquitoes but not an unusual amount . Lots of shade so pick smart if you need starlink

      Cedar Hill State Park Campground

      Big and beautiful.

Lots of different types of sites. Large sites with a lot of privacy. Be sure to look at driveway lengths.
