    Bonham, Texas

Located just outside of Trenton on 15 acres of sloping terrain with a wide creek and additional acreage beyond the Big Oak for exploring.

Beautiful sunsets, a clear view of the night sky, a calming creek and an occasional visiting deer make for a relaxing stay.

The property is in transition as we are in the process of creating manicured groves and open pasture areas for the enjoyment of our farm animals and guests so expect mud when it rains and an occasional heavy equipment or tractor siting.

We have lived here for over 20 years, our residence is across the road from the camping property so we are available if needed. We run a small heard of Brahmas (the cows with the humps and long ears) and raise goats. Our property is managed organically and when the garden is producing will be happy to share the bounty with our guests.

There is no water, electric or wi-fi on property at this time. All lighting is solar or battery powered. Every camper will be supplied clean drinking water and a Port-o-let is onsite near the tent area.

    Lake Bonham Recreation Area

Such a Beautiful Family Friendly Campground

For our first RV camping trip of 2018 we took a short drive north to Bonham State Park right outside of Bonham, Texas. This great little Texas State Park was constructed by the CCC back in the 30's. There are plenty of things for a family to do while camping at Bonham State Park! Hiking, fishing, boat rental and best of all Smors cooked over a roaring camp fire! At every Texas Stae Park you can check out fishing equipment from the front office and you do not have to have a fishing license! Bonham State Park takes the fishing to a whole new level by providing boats so you can get out to where the fish are hiding! Bonham State Park is a great place to take the family for a long weekend of camping fun as it is just a short 45 min drive north of the DFW metroplex!

    Lake Bonham Recreation Area

    Small and gorgeous but Small

One of the cheapest of the Texas State Parks. Tent only spots are 15 a night and comes with electricity. One bathroom for everyone which makes for a walk. Decent trails but many are closed for silly reasons. Within 15 minutes of Walmart.

    Lake Bonham Recreation Area

    Charming and we'll cared for

Bonham is a small but uncrowded park. Lovely and clean fresh water lake. Tent campsites are well sheltered by trees. Big grassy group campsite area that looked inviting. Lots of biking/hiking trails. Nature is always a blessing but the landscape here is just your average Texas.

Doctors Creek Unit - Cooper Lake State Park

    Beautiful Lake and campground.

We were driving through this part of Texas headed home to Oklahoma and saw the signs and needed to stop for lunch, so we decided to check this place out. This was a really beautiful park with a very nice campground that was really kept up. It had screened shelters, cottages with heat & air, shelters, nice playground, Amphitheatre, volleyball court, boat ramps, picnic areas, hiking & biking trails and a swimming area. The bathrooms and showers were nice and clean. The lake was beautiful and clear. I would absolutely recommend this place and I plan on going to stay there for a week in June.

    Walleye Park

    Lovely East Texas Gem!

Walleye Park is a comfortable and lovely park in Mt. Vernon on Lake Cypress Springs - one of the most beautiful lakes in Texas. The sites border the edges of a peninsula so every site has water access and share a dock with the neighboring site.  Some are on open water and some in a cove. The cove-sites are more shady, but all have a canopy of trees that make the park so gorgeous. A few of the spots are considered premium and accommodate larger rigs. Be sure to look at the key available on their reservation site to get a site suitable for your rig. Their reservation system leaves a lot to be desired. You must book 3 days minimum which leaves a lot of single day gaps that cannot be reserved online. Reservations are made through FCWD.com. Expect to just relax or enjoy the water. There is a volleyball area, but I've never seen a net. The environment is extremely peaceful and relaxing!

    Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park

Would stay again, pretty good park

We spent an entire month, as we typically do, in Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park in Terrell, Texas. There is a lot to really like about this campground. We would definitely stay here again.

    Pros:

    • The park was clearly being maintained

    • The basketball /tennis courts had just been resurfaced

    • Anytime someone left, or a spot was empty, new gravel was being dumped and leveled

    • Even though closed for Covid, the pool was cleaned daily.

    • There's a small dog park area.

    • Doggie bags were provided in multiple places, and ample trash cans in which to drop them.

    • Sufficient WiFi repeaters throughout the CG

    • The grass is kept mowed down, good to avoid those Texas stickers getting in your shoelaces.

    • All but one staff member was really friendly.

    • Package receiving was well handled and painless.

    • Each visitor, even short term like us, gets a mailbox. You can go in 24/7 and check it.

    • There's a "swap area" where people leave magazines, etc. (Near the mailboxes.)

    • There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required.

    • LOTS of room to walk the dog!

    • There's ample overflow parking and trailer storage space so you don't have to crowd your campsite.

    • Laundry facility on site, we didn't utilize it since we have a W/D in the rig.

    • Bulletin board for posting things, we bought our W/D from another person at the campsite!

    • Park was pretty quiet while we were there. No ruckus or loud people. Folks walked around, talked a bit.

    • They have Good Sam and Passport American discounts available.

    Cons:

    • You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud. (We did hear a blowout, scared me to death!)
    • The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on.* There are some boggy areas you have to watch for near the pond. (Don't step on the thousands of crawfish towers!)
    • The road is in fairly bad shape, leading into the park. They could really use a road company out there to fix it.
    • There are some rigs that appear more"permanent" with stairs, patio furniture, that sort of thing. But none were run-down looking.
    • When it rains, some of the driveways do get muddy.  The gravel replacement helps.

    Other:

    • There are a LOT of Tiny Houses that have been put on the property. They all looks really new, well maintained.
    • The staff appears to reserve some spots near the front for folks coming in for a day or two to a week.  It was NOT all permanents by any means.

    Good location and nice people!

Right off I-30, usually has spots available, very friendly people. All sites are pull-through. Tavern right next door—didn’t have time to check it out but it’s a short walk. Twinkle lights added charm to entryway to park, and we were visited by a duck from the nearby pond!

    Good, however...

So this is an ok place to spend a night or two. With Passport America, the price is right. The Tin Cup is a restaurant that's owned by the park and the food is great. The downside is that there's live music on Saturdays. It's loud enough to be annoying but not loud enough to enjoy. It was still playing after 10:30 pm. Not good when you need to get up early in the morning.

Doctors Creek Unit - Cooper Lake State Park

One of My favorite Texas State Parks!

I spent three hots days exploring the DR Creek Unit of Cooper Lake State Park. This is a great campground! Most of the sites are in deep shade and are very level concrete pads.

If you have a boat then you will love the fishing on theis lake.

The day use area is OK, the swim area has a huge steel wall to block the wind and waves because they get really strong.

The cabins and shelters are pretty basic but they do the job.

plenty of wildlife for viewing and several great trails to explore.

Every campground I visit has at least two different videos on my YouTube...

    Not the best

We arrived here because all the campgrounds in a 50 mile radius were booked up. The campground is spare without much to do. On this day, the wind off the lake was howling, so I had to park the van and put up a tarp to block it enough to set up the tent. The bathrooms were a mess and we just didn't have that much to do. The one bright spot was a camp volunteer named Joe who helped us out and even sang us some tunes.

    Great Camping Experience!

We stayed at spot 18, it was a quick walk to the lake and had the most beautiful wooded view from the campsite. The dump station has 2 spots and very easy to use. The public restrooms were clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. We highly recommend this campsite!

    Very Quiet

We were here in early December, so the campground wasn't very busy. We liked our site, pretty spacious with views of the water. The ranger said this loop is the quieter, less busy side of Cooper Lake. Easy, short hiking trails. Playground & a swimming beach. I imagine this would be a fun, possibly crowded place in season, but probably not loud at night as sites are spaced out well. We will return someday.
