Winters-Elm Creek Reservoir

Lake Winters, also known as Elm Creek Reservoir, is located in Runnels County in central Texas, just outside the city of Winters. The reservoir is approximately 25 miles south of Abilene and about 60 miles northeast of San Angelo. This scenic lake serves as both a recreational area and a water supply for the city of Winters, offering camping and outdoor activities in a peaceful rural setting.

Elm Creek Reservoir offers good fishing opportunities for anglers in central Texas. The lake is stocked with several species including largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. Bank fishing is popular along accessible shorelines, while boat fishing allows access to deeper waters. The reservoir's relatively small size makes it an intimate fishing spot without overwhelming boat traffic. To access camping areas at Elm Creek Reservoir, take Highway 153 from Winters and follow signs to the reservoir. The main camping areas are accessible via well-marked roads leading to the lake. For Lake O.H. Ivie (which is a separate reservoir about 30 miles southwest of Winters), access is via FM 1929 or FM 2134 depending on which side you're heading to. Both locations offer designated camping areas with varying levels of amenities. It's advisable to call ahead for current road conditions, especially after heavy rain.
