Spring Lake RV Resort, Paradise on the Mountain RV Park, and Misty Mountain RV Resort offer full hookup RV sites near Cookeville. Spring Lake features 64 sites with 30 and 50 amp electrical connections positioned around a small lake, with most sites requiring minimal leveling. Paradise on the Mountain accommodates up to 100 RVs with water, sewer, and electrical connections, while Misty Mountain caters specifically to big rigs with 50 amp service. Most parks provide gravel pads with picnic tables and fire rings where permitted. "Site 1 only had 30 amp and was the smallest in the campground. Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1."

Several RV parks in the region remain open year-round, though availability tightens during fall foliage season. Road access varies significantly between properties - parks like Spring Lake RV Resort sit just a few miles off the interstate with easy pull-through access, while others require navigation through winding mountain roads with elevation changes. Cell service strength fluctuates throughout the area, with Verizon typically providing the most reliable coverage. Dump stations are available at Paradise on the Mountain and R&R RV Campground, though not all smaller facilities offer this service. A review noted that Spring Lake has "sitting areas and gazebos where you could relax during the day or at night. A couple of miles off the interstate so no road noise and very quiet at night."

Long Branch — Center Hill Lake

A Big-Rig-Friendly COE Worth Returning To

We stayed here overnight on the way to Gatlinburg and three nights on the way back. GPS and signage was good as getting to this COE was easy. Often you don’t know what you’re going to get at a COE i.e. tight roads, low hanging branches etc. This was not the case as the campground (CG) is big rig friendly. For the overnighter, we checked in at the gate and proceeded to back in site 50 with water and electric (50/30/20 AMP). We had no problem backing into site 50 which sits above the creek that runs through the side of the CG. The gravel pad was fairly level(didn’t need any blocks under tires) with a picnic table, fish cleaning station, fire pit and stand up bbq. For the three nights we were in back in site 37, which was along the fence side of the CG. Site 37 had the same picnic table, cleaning table, stand up bbq and fire pit. This site’s pad was plenty long enough so we could put our toy hauler patio down. For both sites we got 1 bar on both Verizon and T-Mobile. As there is no Wifi in this CG, we used starlink. Since our starlink antenna is not hard mounted, we were able to move the antenna around to get a good signal through the trees. We were surprised this COE didn’t sell firewood nor ice. We enjoyed walking our dog around and even did some fly fishing in the adjacent river. We thoroughly enjoyed this COE.

      Whispering Falls RV Park

Great Customer Service and a Walk to Burgess Falls

We originally reserved three nights at Whispering Falls RV Park but changed our plans to an overnight stay with only 24 hours' notice. The staff was very accommodating and changed our reservation without any fees. On travel day, we called to see if we could arrive early since check-in wasn't until 3:00 PM. Again, no problem! Awesome customer service. We followed RV Life Trip Wizard GPS along with the directions in our confirmation email, which accounted for a detour due to construction of the new Burgess Falls State Park visitor center. The drive took us along country roads that we wouldn't want to navigate after dark. Check-in was simple, and we entered the gate code and proceeded to back-in site 7. We were impressed with the newer campsites featuring pavers and long pads. Utilities were conveniently placed, making hookups easy. Water pressure was decent at around 45 psi. Campground (CG) WiFi was pretty good at 20.5 Mbps download. We received one bar on both Verizon and T-Mobile, but our T-Mobile Home Internet was unusable, so we set up Starlink. Mature trees surrounded the CG perimeter but didn't cause us any satellite reception issues. Sites were decently spaced, with sites 9 and 10 looking like great choices for those traveling together. There were quite a few seasonal or permanent campers, but their sites were very well maintained. The CG also had a good-sized, unfenced dog area. One nice feature was being able to hear the falls from sites toward the back of the CG. We especially enjoyed being able to walk directly from our campsite into Burgess Falls State Park and access the trails leading to the falls to include bringing our dog on a leash. The store, which also serves as the check-in location, offered fast food, beer, and basic grocery items. Between the excellent customer service, well-maintained sites, and convenient access to the state park, we would definitely stay here again!

      Howland's Hidout

This was a last minute stay, the camp was full but accommodations were made for us by the host to park in his front yard and connect to house power. We were invited to join the host and other guests at the massive fire pit that was warming the cool mountain evening. Very pretty here…was a long and winding road up the mountain from our travel direction. Excited to see what it looks like in daylight. I have 3 bars on my T-Mobile but also have StarLink.

      Obey River Park

      Nasty Water

The lakes are way low, so our lakeside campsite was not really. With no flow, the lake stunk and had a slimey feel. Too many motors to paddle, too loud, no privacy. I’ll not visit this one again.

      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      4th Time Here

This is our number one favorite place to camp. We are from Knoxville, TN and if we are wanting to camp for the weekend but avoid the drive, this is where we come! Area 1 site 25 is our favorite and we are super excited to stay at 108 and 109 in the future. The campground is beautiful. Area 1 is shaded with plenty of trees around making it feel like you're in a little forest, and of course fall is wonderful. Some sites have sewer. I have T-mobile cell phone and I have 3 bars at 5g and my husband has xfinity and has 2 bars at 4G.

      Love this campground!

Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground

A little tight, and the dump station is stupid…but park is beautiful

Loved the park. Waterfalls, hiking, nice campground, overall very nice stay. Turns were a little tight but made it okay. Dump station looks like it was designed by someone who’s never dumped an RV. The sewer spot was elevated (above my dump connection!), and required stupid tactics (fill hose, shut valve, dump hose contents, open valve, fill hose………).

      Davy Crockett Campground

      Too expensive for a night

This looks like a nice campground, but I just needed to sleep. I asked for the least expensive site and was told $70. The WiFi didn't even work. Under new ownership and was told it would be getting better. They claim to be the friendliest dog RV Park in America, but they don't even have a dog park so I don't know why they think they're the best.

      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      Nice campground.

Level paved spot, partial shade (site 140), quiet, sites not too close together, cooler evenings than LA (lower AL). Nice staff. Not crowded.

    Guide to Cookeville

Cookeville, Tennessee sits at the edge of the Highland Rim geographical region, with nearby campgrounds ranging from 900 to 1,800 feet in elevation. The area experiences four distinct seasons with typically mild winters and hot, humid summers that provide year-round camping opportunities. Most RV campgrounds near Cookeville maintain gravel sites that may require some leveling blocks depending on recent rainfall and ground settling.

    What to do

Waterfall hiking: Greeter Falls Campground offers direct access to multiple waterfall trails with varying difficulty levels. "We did hike back there some. There are 4 waterfalls according to their map. The upper falls was pretty cool," notes one visitor. The trails include both upper and lower falls options, with swimming holes available during warmer months.

Wildlife viewing: At Paradise on the Mountain RV Park, campers appreciate the designated nature areas. "We are a week into a month long stay and I can't say enough great things about this park. There is a great dog trail and a fenced dog run," shares Jason W. The park maintains several acres of natural habitat where deer are commonly spotted at dawn and dusk.

Historical sites: Brooks Corner Campground & RV Park provides easy access to historical Rugby, Tennessee. "It is right behind the Brooks store and less than a mile from Rugby. Both the store and town are a step back in history," reports Jason K. The Victorian-era planned community of Rugby offers guided tours every weekend for $7 per person.

    What campers like

Dark skies for stargazing: Brooks Corner Campground offers exceptional night viewing due to minimal light pollution. "Star view on a clear night is awesome due to the lack of nearby city lights," says Jason K. The campground sits in a rural area far from urban centers, creating ideal conditions for astronomical observation.

Clean facilities: Deer Run RV Resort maintains high standards throughout their property. "Awesome resort! Very clean, beautiful and friendly! Tons of shade trees, huge spots and most are pull through!" reports Darrell W. Their bathhouses are regularly maintained, though winter visitors should note some facilities close seasonally as one camper mentioned: "There was a close bath house, but they still had it closed for winter."

Local knowledge: R&R RV Campground owners provide personalized recommendations to visitors. "The owner also sat and talked with us about all the hidden areas to check out that were local!" shares Tara. These insider tips help campers discover less-traveled attractions beyond the standard tourist destinations.

    What you should know

Distance to amenities: Rural campgrounds require planning for supplies and services. Josh J. notes about Brooks Corner Campground: "This is very rural so see recommendations for distances to nearest places... Propane is available for 20lbs swap-outs at the local Dollar Trees (Jamestown or near Eglin/Robbins both are ~20m away)... Groceries: Walmart (Oneida ~40m/Jamestown ~25)."

Cell service variability: Coverage depends on specific location and carrier. McDermit RV Park offers reliable connections despite its rural setting near Dale Hollow Lake. "It has nice amenities and the owners live on site which is good. The sites are large and the one I had offered privacy," notes Beth K.

Site leveling requirements: Maple Hill RV Park & Cabins has varied terrain between front and back sections. "The sites in the front are far more level than the ones in the back where the green space is located," reports one camper after a week-long stay. Many campers recommend bringing leveling blocks regardless of which campground you choose.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Paradise on the Mountain RV Park offers dedicated children's facilities. "There is an adorable playground for the kids. Rumor says there is possibly a splash pad coming soon," mentions Jessica D., who appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere.

Educational opportunities: Greeter Falls Campground combines recreation with natural learning. "We did not drive they the yurts or RV sites, so I cannot speak for those, but the pictures on the website look nice," notes one visitor who explored the primitive camping area. The nearby falls provide opportunities for teaching about local geology and water systems.

Safety features: Campgrounds vary in nighttime visibility. Families appreciate Paradise on the Mountain's attention to safety: "Well lit at night for anyone needing to venture over to the bathrooms as well," notes Jessica D. This feature is particularly valuable for families with young children making nighttime bathroom trips.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup reliability: Water quality varies between Cookeville area RV campgrounds. Maple Hill RV Park faced some water issues according to one full-time RVer: "We didn't notice this the first day, but I started seeing brownish water in our toilet. When we unhooked and sprayed out our filter, it was filled with filthy gunk."

Access routes: R&R RV Campground accommodates larger rigs despite compact spacing. "We are a 40' rig with a tow behind and we had plenty of space!" reports Tara. The campground's layout prioritizes ease of navigation over spaciousness, making it suitable for overnight stays.

Power stability: Electrical systems at some campgrounds may struggle during peak usage. One Deer Run RV Resort camper noted: "We put our surge protector on and the power at the site kept shorting out. We managed to get slides out then it shorted out. Turned breakers back on to turn on a/c and it blew again." Bringing a surge protector is recommended when camping at RV campgrounds in Cookeville, Tennessee.
