If you’re interested in coal mining, have I got a spot for you.

This small park is located across the street from an exhibition coal mine, portal 31. It is in the former train depots former switch yard. Small, with electric hookups and a communal water spout.

If you want to see the history of coal production in southeast Kentucky, this is the place. If you…

Spacious Family Campground

Plenty of room at every site. Arrived on a Sunday for a week long stay. Mid-week has been very quiet. Plenty to do, but not a commercial campground. Bank fishing in a small pond/lake. Lake beach area is nice. Game room was fun, but we felt pricey in this area ($1 for most games). Rec room has lots…

Friendly staff, spacious sites

I enjoyed staying here. I mentioned to the host lady that I’d like a site not too close to other folks to be able to rest and have some privacy. Since they had availability she put me on a spacious site by the creek. I love staying at campgrounds with lots of green vegetation and this one has it,…

Great Place Next to the River

Great place, love the river. Fireflies every night and within walking/biking distance of a great little town with a coffee shop, brewery, and a few restaurants.

Love this place!

Stayed here for the first time in May and loved it so much we reserved another trip for July on the way home! This is the only place we’ve ever camped and it met all my expectations. If you are looking for touristy place with putt putt, water parks, and pools this isn’t the place for you. If you…

Lovely campground with lake access

Stayed in site A31, a pull-through site. No sites here have hook-ups. This campground is on a beautiful lake. There is no swimming on the lake(its pretty shallow) but awesome for kayaking and paddleboarding. There is wifi at the boat rental area, an easy walk from all parts of the campground where…

Beautiful tent sites but…..

The campground is in a good area with restaurants, grocery stores and anything you might need close by. We camped in the tent area with no water or electricity which was fine with us. The tent sites are away from the RVS and set into beautiful wooded areas. However, because the terrain is hilly,…

Great Rustic Campground

Nice spacious sites that are mostly level. Be sure to fill water tank before arrival as there are very few sites with water. All RV sites have electric. 50amp is available on select sites. Narrow paved lanes through campground, however didn't have an issue with our 38' fifth wheel and crew cab…

Easy access and its free

It has free tent campsites and it is right next to Linville Gorge. This allows plenty of adventurous trails ranging in difficulty. But the best view is on top of Table Rock Mountain, which I highly recommend for sunrise and sunset. However, there is no electric or bathrooms.

A little slice of heaven on the parkway

Great location

We camped back in June at Grandfather. It is a very large campground but doesn't feel that way. We were next to the stream near the entrance.

The campground is very close to Grandfather Mountain entrance. Perfect…

Great, easy camping for families!

We had the best time at Buck Hill Campground! I got the idea to go camping near Linville for Memorial Day weekend and most places with online reservations were already booked up (oops). SO HAPPY I called this place! The owner Chris and his family were so kind and helpful, and the campground was…

  • View of the campsite! Pick your own spot by the lake. There were raised wooden tent pads, but we decided to just pitch our tent on the grass. Spigots along the tree border for fresh water, fire rings and picnic tables throughout.
  • View from our campsite across the lake. Lots of RV campers down the way. Very peaceful view of the mountains.
  • Baby Geese!! They were so cute.
