      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      4th Time Here

This is our number one favorite place to camp. We are from Knoxville, TN and if we are wanting to camp for the weekend but avoid the drive, this is where we come! Area 1 site 25 is our favorite and we are super excited to stay at 108 and 109 in the future. The campground is beautiful. Area 1 is shaded with plenty of trees around making it feel like you're in a little forest, and of course fall is wonderful. Some sites have sewer. I have T-mobile cell phone and I have 3 bars at 5g and my husband has xfinity and has 2 bars at 4G.

      Love this campground!

Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground

A little tight, and the dump station is stupid…but park is beautiful

Loved the park. Waterfalls, hiking, nice campground, overall very nice stay. Turns were a little tight but made it okay. Dump station looks like it was designed by someone who’s never dumped an RV. The sewer spot was elevated (above my dump connection!), and required stupid tactics (fill hose, shut valve, dump hose contents, open valve, fill hose………).

      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      Nice campground.

Level paved spot, partial shade (site 140), quiet, sites not too close together, cooler evenings than LA (lower AL). Nice staff. Not crowded.

Cedars of Lebanon State Park Campground

      Beautiful Park

Cedars of Lebanon State Park • Lebanon, TN • Site 69 • water, electric, and dump station

This park is beautiful!! It is only 6 miles off the interstate. We only stayed one night (not even a full 24 hours) to visit the State Fair, but would love to come back for a weekend, especially to do one of the cave tours! They have a splash pad and all sorts of activities to do. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest I've seen.

Some of the sites were pretty tight. The picnic table was right outside our door and there was a tree blocking us from opening the awning all the way. There were other sites with plenty of room. The campground advertises wifi, but they were having issues.

I have T-mobile and it said 5G but I wasn't able to browse efficiently. My husband and brother have Comcast and Verizon and had service and were able to browse just fine.

      Ballyhoo Family Campground

      Rude money hungry owners

I was a visitor to this park. Doris has zero interest in being friendly or welcoming. The only signage that reads, you must visit their dirty little office and register, is what you see in the photos posted, partially hidden by tree branches as you approach. It was my third visit before I actually saw it and that’s only because it was pointed out by the person I was visiting. And they don’t care if you give them your info, doesn’t even ask,  just demands your $5. After the owner Doris  read a Google review left by another person  that was treated poorly by her, she assumed it was left by me for spite and kicked my friend that stayed there out.  Had she bothered to actually take my info instead of my money she would have realized I wasn’t the one that left her a bad review, but another visitor leaving an unsatisfactory review perpetuated by her rudeness.. if you value your peace and want your visitors to feel welcome, please choose another place to give your hard earned money to.

      Smooth Rapids Campground

      Favorite spot

Smooth Rapids is hands down one of our faves. We like to rent 19 & 20 together. It gives elbow room and lets us pull power and water from Lot 19 over to where we park our little teardrop on Lot 20 (which has no power or water itself). The staff team is just terrific. We like to kayak. They rent yaks or if you BYO you can also pay to shuttle. We do both depending whether we want to haul our kayaks. They have a really good bath house and a restaurant. Kids have a playground on one end but we are past those days now. You get a mix of fellow campers. This time of year is busy but even then it is usually a nice time. Folks there tend to be friendly. The Barren Fork River runs right along the entire stretch of campground and behind the restaurant. We typically do the medium length run that takes 2.5-4 hours depending on how aggressively you row. You feel like you are away in the wilderness but you’re really just tooling through McMinnville. We highly recommend it.

      Greeter Falls Campground

      Greeter camp grounds

Absolutely amazing, there were beautiful trails/hikes right down the road and it was very clean and the set up itself was just so impressive.

Alum Gap Campground — Savage Gulf State Park

      Alum Gap Primitive Camping

The hike down the Laurel trail was really mellow. Roughly a 3 mile gradual descent and then you can branch off and hike to some of the falls on the West side of the park. Campsites 4 and 5 are near the bluff so keep that in mind if you have little ones running around. There is an outhouse style bathroom, but no potable water on-site. We hiked to Greeter Falls and then went to the Greeter Falls campground to restock on essentials. They have a camp general store and café. Highly recommend!

    Guide to Cookeville

Cumberland Plateau campgrounds near Cookeville, Tennessee offer visitors elevation ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 feet with average summer temperatures 5-10 degrees cooler than surrounding lowlands. Most campgrounds in the region provide direct access to limestone hiking trails and natural swimming areas, with peak camping season running April through October when waterfall flows are strongest.

    What to do

**Waterfall swimming: Hike to multiple natural swimming areas at Rock Island State Park Campground where campers can enjoy both cascades and calm water. "Great hikes and random places to jump into the water," notes Alicia F., who adds the "beautiful landscape makes this a great place to spend the weekend."

**Trout fishing: Fish directly from your campsite at Dale Hollow Damsite where the campground parallels the Obey River. "Plenty of fish opportunities from boat, kayak, wading and shoreline," writes Kenny P., who recommends bringing "plenty of ice as there is no ice machine on site. Nearest place to get ice is 2 miles away in Celina TN."

**Woodland hiking: Take advantage of the extensive trail network at Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground which offers routes for all ability levels. "One of the best hiking parks I've ever been to. Miles and miles of trails; short, long, loops, overnights," reports Myke C., who recommends hiking "to the bottom of the big waterfall."

    What campers like

**Platform camping: Experience unique elevated wooden deck camping at Edgar Evins State Park Campground where sites are built on stilts. "The sites are tiered and you will get a workout if you're walking from one level to the next," explains Shelly S., adding that "sites surprisingly did not have easy access to the lake."

**Hiking with overlooks: Trek the marked trails at Spacious Skies Belle Ridge for panoramic views across the Cumberland Plateau. "The hiking trails are great. They had areas to sit, and enjoy the view," shares Keith N., who mentions, "We had a concrete site in E-loop that allowed us to level with no trouble!"

**Year-round access: Camp through all seasons at Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground which offers full hookups in loop A during winter months. "This is a larger state park that includes a restaurant, golf course, pool, etc. but also some nice trails to enjoy the natural beauty of the area," writes Lynn G., noting it's "close to town, the highway, and some other natural areas."

    What you should know

**Campground spacing: Expect different site spacing between campgrounds, with some offering more privacy than others. At Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground, "Sites give you a lot of room," according to Bob T., though he notes "some are not level but they have worked on many of them."

**Traffic noise: Be prepared for highway sounds at certain campgrounds located near major roads. Belle Ridge campers mention its "closeness to I-40. You can hear the traffic," though Keith N. clarifies it's "not overbearing by any means. It is just in the background slightly."

**Seasonal water features: Plan visits around water activities as some swimming areas and waterfalls have stronger flow during spring and early summer. At Rock Island, the "huge beach" is mentioned as being "lots of fun in the summer," while fall and spring visitors focus more on hiking opportunities.

    Tips for camping with families

**Playground access: Choose campgrounds with dedicated play areas for children between hiking adventures. Holpps Pine Ridge Lake Campground offers "a playground for children, and a roped off swimming area," according to Lori H., who adds the lake is "a nice sized lake, large enough for boats and jet ski's, but calm enough for kayaks and paddle boards."

**Educational programs: Take advantage of ranger-led activities at state parks during summer months. Edgar Evins offers "Very informative pontoon boat tour with a Park Ranger," according to Rosa B., who also mentions having a "Great lunch at the marina too!"

**Swimming options: Select campgrounds with both natural and developed swimming areas. At Cedars of Lebanon State Park Campground, families appreciate the "great pool," while Fall Creek Falls offers natural swimming holes where campers can "swim in the cascades next to the nature center."

    Tips from RVers

**Site leveling: Reserve specific sites after checking campground maps as many Cumberland Plateau campgrounds have sloped terrain. At Fall Creek Falls, Richard F. advises to "Pay attention to grades of sites when booking, you might need extra supports to level out."

**Road width: Be cautious navigating narrow campground roads, especially in older state parks. At Edgar Evins, campers warn "be wary of the speed bumps throughout the campground, they are closely spaced and rather abrupt, take them very slowly."

**Electric service variations: Check for correct power connections before arrival as some sites offer only 50-amp service. At Deep Valley Campground, Leslie G. notes there is "30 amp service only," while Cumberland Mountain sites include both 30 and 50-amp options in different camping areas.
