Blue Moon RV Park in Athens offers full hookup RV sites with both 30 and 50 amp electrical service, making it a convenient base for motorhome travelers. The park features big-rig friendly sites with water, sewer, and electric hookups, plus amenities like showers and a sanitary dump station. Within 30 miles, Parksville Lake RV Campground provides year-round camping with 30 amp service and drinking water, though it lacks sewer hookups at individual sites. For those seeking mountain views, Top of the World RV in Tellico Plains features full hookup sites with water, sewer, and electric connections in a more elevated setting. Whitewater RV Park near Ocoee accommodates larger rigs across its 24 sites with 30/50 amp service and full hookups. "Nice place with 10 50 amp pull through sites and a few back in 30 amp used by monthly renters that make you feel welcome," noted one visitor about Blue Moon RV Park.

Navigation to some RV parks in the region requires attention to road conditions, particularly those in mountainous areas where steep grades and switchbacks can challenge larger motorhomes. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with parks closer to Athens generally offering better connectivity than those in more remote settings. Most RV campgrounds in the area are pet-friendly, though specific rules regarding pet areas and leash requirements differ by location. Dump stations are available at most parks, but not all—River Breeze RV Park and Top of the World RV lack on-site dump facilities. Seasonal availability affects some options, with Chilhowee Recreation Area operating only from April through November while offering 50 amp electric hookups but no water or sewer connections at individual sites. Propane service is limited at most parks, requiring travelers to fill tanks at nearby towns.

      Peachtree Cove RV Park

      Little piece of Paradise

Left Pigeon Forge Tn. GPS took us on an adventure, route 129 The Tail of the Dragon 318 curves switchback and hairpins I was nervous but slayed it. Lol. Peachtree Cove RV Park is perfect for quiet camping. Dog run area stream or river at most sites. I had a reservation at Andrew’s Valley Railway Tour highly recommend both of these

      Candy Mountain Goat Farm

      Welcoming, well-maintained, and peaceful campsite

I camped here with a friend last weekend and absolutely loved this place! It's a cute little site with a great host, clean bathrooms, free firewood, and super friendly dogs, goats, and people. I would for sure stay here again and recommend.

      Parksville Lake RV Campground

      Great little campground

Parksville Lake RV Campground is an absolute gem! I had a fantastic stay here. The campground is beautifully maintained, and the sites are nice, spacious, and wonderfully shaded by the trees. We loved the layout of the RV loop, especially the outer section where a peaceful creek flows right past the sites—the sound of the water at night was perfect. The restrooms and showers were exceptionally clean and well-kept.  I had Starlink connectivity at my site and my WeBoost cell signal booster gave me up to three bars on AT&T.  The campground host was incredibly nice, welcoming, and helpful. It's a wonderful, relaxing spot, and I will definitely be back!

      North River Campground

Peaceful, low cost small campground with some creekside sites

This is one of several USFS campgrounds that are within a few miles of each other. The cost is only $8/night, first come first served. The sites are fairly large with about half of them on a wide, clear creek. There is no running water, but there are bear proof trash cans and vault toilets that were fairly clean, but didn't smell great.

There is free potable water and an RV dump station about a mile away at the North River Game Checking Station on River Road near the Spivey Cove campground..

The campsite was clean with picnic table, fire ring, and a lantern post. The fire ring was almost full of ashes and it appears that campers have to clean them out themselves.

The Green Cove Angler store is a couple miles away and has ice, firewood and other camper things.

Unfortunately, while we were there, it was bear hunting season and another camper had multiple barking and baying dogs that went on and on for hours.

      Howland's Hidout

This was a last minute stay, the camp was full but accommodations were made for us by the host to park in his front yard and connect to house power. We were invited to join the host and other guests at the massive fire pit that was warming the cool mountain evening. Very pretty here…was a long and winding road up the mountain from our travel direction. Excited to see what it looks like in daylight. I have 3 bars on my T-Mobile but also have StarLink.

      Poteete Creek Campground

      Friendly host, crowded camp

Water was very low and poor quality. Host was friendly but don’t buy his wood - it doesn’t burn well. County water tasted funny, probably minimal treatment. We had quite a hike to the restroom, which wasn’t regularly cleaned.

      Lotterdale Cove Campground

      Tent Riverfront

This was a very nice campground! The tent areas are partially gravel so it helped the area be less muddy after rain. Beautiful view of the river and would be a great place to fish! Bathrooms are very nice! Comes with a nice fire pit and didn’t have to use own grate! Pet friendly! Staff was very nice and helpful!

Only complaint was some of their quiet hours were confusing. The quiet hours on the email said 10pm to 7am but then sign posted at bathroom was 11pm-7am for quiet hours.

This is a beautiful campground but is unfortunately permanently closed. It's sad.

      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      4th Time Here

This is our number one favorite place to camp. We are from Knoxville, TN and if we are wanting to camp for the weekend but avoid the drive, this is where we come! Area 1 site 25 is our favorite and we are super excited to stay at 108 and 109 in the future. The campground is beautiful. Area 1 is shaded with plenty of trees around making it feel like you're in a little forest, and of course fall is wonderful. Some sites have sewer. I have T-mobile cell phone and I have 3 bars at 5g and my husband has xfinity and has 2 bars at 4G.

      Love this campground!

    Guide to Athens

RV campgrounds near Athens, Tennessee provide access to both mountain and lake destinations within a 45-minute drive radius. The region sits at elevations ranging from 800 to 2,500 feet, creating temperature variations that can be 10-15 degrees cooler at higher elevation campsites. Weather patterns shift quickly in the Cherokee National Forest area, with afternoon thunderstorms common during summer months.

    What to do

Waterfall hiking: 3 miles round trip to Benton Falls from Chilhowee Recreation Area. "We did the Benton Falls hike and it was lovely! 3 miles RT. Fall color was just peaking," writes Tracy J., who also notes the campground offers "25 miles of hiking and biking trails starting right from our campsite."

Olympic whitewater rafting: 15 minutes from Whitewater RV Park - Ocoee TN. "We spent the day hiking the mountain next to rv park. Then went kayaking down the river across the street," says Justin. The park sits near the 1996 Olympic whitewater course on the Ocoee River.

Mountain biking: Multiple trail systems accessible from campgrounds. "The park is very clean, quiet and well kept. We spent the day hiking the mountain next to rv park," notes a visitor to Whitewater RV Park. Nearby trail systems range from beginner to advanced difficulty levels with varying terrain and elevation changes.

    What campers like

Spacious, private sites: at Top of the World RV. "HUGE spots, and that's even the 'small' ones. Great views. Great spot to wander a little with a pet & great WiFi," reports Mary D., highlighting the room to spread out compared to more compact rv parks in Athens, Tennessee.

Clean facilities: throughout the campgrounds. "The showers were clean, hot and great water pressure. Also, there was a restroom for every 6-7 sites, so not too much traffic," notes Manie D. about Chilhowee Recreation Area, which maintains modern bathhouses despite its more remote setting.

Creek-side camping spots: at Parksville Lake RV Campground. "We had a great experience at this little campground. There are several sites along a beautiful little creek. It was peaceful, only the occasional car on the nearby road," reports Robert G., describing the natural water features available at certain campsites.

    What you should know

Mountain roads challenge larger rigs: particularly to elevated campgrounds. "To get to this campground you have to go up a steep narrow windy mountain road," warns Carissa D. about Chilhowee Recreation Area, while Jeremy B. notes about Top of the World RV: "Getting to it can be tricky as TN-68 has steep grades and decent curves but is doable for all but the absolute longest of rigs."

Cell service varies significantly: by location and carrier. "There is no WiFi or AT&T cellular signal in this park. However, if you drive to any of the scenic overlooks just outside the park, you will get AT&T LTE signal," explains Manie D. about Chilhowee, while at Top of the World RV, "Cell service with T-Mobile not existent. They have WiFi but not very fast."

Weather changes quickly: especially in higher elevations. "My husband and I visited the first week in July. There was rain in the forecast everyday, but it only really rained one day (it was a down pour that lasted ~30 mins)," reports a camper at Chilhowee Recreation Area, demonstrating how mountain weather patterns can shift rapidly.

    Tips for camping with families

Choose campgrounds with water access: for summer visits. "The small loop is perfect for a family get away. Close Creek and hiking provided plenty of activity for little ones and not overly crowded like bigger campgrounds," notes Lindsay C. about Parksville Lake RV Campground.

Look for loop-specific amenities: when booking. "We stayed in A loop. The A&B loops are well spaced and mostly shaded with fairly level gravel pads," advises a camper about Chilhowee Recreation Area, noting that different camping loops often have different features and environments.

Pack for variable temperatures: especially for spring and fall. Temperature swings of 20+ degrees between day and night are common, with higher elevation campgrounds requiring warmer clothing even in summer months when overnight lows can dip into the 50s.

    Tips from RVers

Length restrictions matter: on mountain roads. "We were in 35 foot trailer but some tight turns in camp ground. If large rig then call for advice on site," advises Scott H. about Parksville Lake RV Campground, highlighting the importance of checking specific site restrictions.

Water supply planning: varies by campground. "There are no water hookups at the sites, only power (30A). You'll need to fill your fresh water tanks before you set up," notes Mike N. about Chilhowee Recreation Area, while "Water hookups shared throughout the campground, not dedicated to each site," reports Lindsay C. about Parksville Lake.

Level site availability: impacts comfort. "Because sites are loose gravel, leveling can be a challenge if your rig does not auto level," warns Jeremy B. about Top of the World RV, a consideration for RV parks around Athens, Tennessee where terrain varies significantly.
