John H. Moss Lake Campground
It’s a small, clean campground but we are next to a busy road (site 28) and also the entrance to the public access of Moss Lake. It’s a tight squeeze for us as a 33’ fifth wheel.
15 campgrounds with availability next weekend
Spartanburg's surrounding area provides several RV parks with full-hookup capabilities, primarily concentrated along the I-26 and I-85 corridors. Cunningham RV Park offers 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups on gravel sites with year-round availability. "The roads inside the park were easy to navigate and pull into our site and nearby are fuel stations and fast food restaurants," noted one visitor, though they mentioned many permanent residents occupy the grounds. GSP RV Park in Greer maintains 36 sites with fresh gravel, fire pits, and spacious layouts for larger rigs. Fireside RV Park features level, grassy sites with 50-amp service and sewer connections, though no shower facilities or picnic tables are provided. Most parks accommodate big rigs with pull-through options, though spacing between sites varies considerably.
Navigation to these parks requires minimal mountain driving compared to options further north in the Carolinas. While Spartanburg-area RV parks typically provide full hookups, amenities like laundry facilities, propane fill stations, and camp stores are less common. A recent review noted that some electrical hookups appeared "a little sketchy" with older boxes retrofitted for 50-amp service. Cell service is generally strong throughout the region with both Verizon and AT&T providing reliable coverage. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most parks, though leash requirements are strictly enforced. Winter travelers benefit from the area's year-round camping season, with many parks remaining open and accessible during colder months when mountain destinations further north close due to weather conditions.
"This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights."

"There seemed to be quite a few long term campers but the place was clean. The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you.
No picnic tables and the WiFi was just useable."
"You often see the owner themselves doing a lot of the maintenance. Plus they check on people, see if everything is going good."
from $40 - $50 / night

If you ever plan on visiting Shelby / Broad River KOA Holiday Campground and have women or kids in your party, and y'all rent a unit from them, I'd rethink it or keep the door locked at all times. Our visit was wonderful up until the point a maintenance worker walks straight up in here on us.
Tight fit, we stayed here with our 20ft trailer and it is a little tight. The site was at a slight angle and I noticed a lot of sites are the same way. Plus side is there is a security gate with code entry. Easy access to lake. Good clean boathouse and nice full hookups.
We stayed here because it was right between Brevard and Hendersonville. It’s a small park with full hook ups, a picnic table, and a fire ring. A new bath house on site with laundry. The bath house was clean but I went in on arrival and no TP was available at 3PM, so not sure how often they service the bathrooms. We later found out the office is only open a couple days a week, and I’m not even sure which days. I did not see a host sign either so that leaves me to wonder how often also. The majority of the people seem to live there which gives the park a different vibe. No friendly hellos and no one out grilling or around a campfire. The sites were pretty level, and a decent size. No shade to speak of, and there is not much area to actually walk a dog. They have 2 fenced areas that are dog parks that were nice but not terribly large. One day, one tenant put his dog inside the dog area and left him there for a bit to just bark. I’m sure the owner was close by but was not inside the fence area. They advertise that the Ecrusta Trailbis directly behind the park. It is… but it hasn’t been updated yet in the project of making it extremely useable. It has large rocks currently covering the trail and my Labrador was very uncomfortable walking on it. There is an Ingles across the street which was very convenient. And the location is good. If you are looking for a clean convenient stop with full hook ups this will be a great find. But I don’t think we will visit again as we are outdoorsy people
I had avoided KOA in the past as I heard not great things about it, but I have to rethink my position after this visit. The staff really seemed to care about the facilities and take great care of them.!
Easy access and nice pool as well as little camp store.
We absolutely loved our experience at Black Forest. The owners genuinely care about your stay. They were only about half full when we went so they suggested a couple different sites for us to be spaced out from other people for privacy. When we arrived at our site we called the desk and asked if we could actually move to the one right next to it and they said sure no problem. Even if you were right next to others there are trees for at least a visual barrier at most sites. And you are fully in the woods so it isn’t that RV park feel. The bathhouses are clean and well maintained. The store at the check-in has everything you may have forgotten and the prices are actually reasonable. This place is very close to the restaurants on cedar mountain, less than 10 minute drive to everything. This was our first trip with our new 29ft camper trailer and I was nervous about backing into the site, but the way they have them set up you have plenty of room so it’s easy. The internet was a little spotty so we weren’t able to work remotely as planned but for us it wasn’t a big deal and we had enough cell service to send texts here and there. I read that the pool is heated but it was pretty cold!! But the weather was very hot when we were here so we didn’t mind that at all, we loved the pool.
Semi private campground, super clean bathrooms, cell signal is spotty and there are no trails or water nearby. So, some pluses and some minuses. Also, although our campsite was level (unlike some), it was quite muddy and the utility hookups and fire ring were on opposite sides of where they should be.
I have stayed at brickhouse multiple times, and will stay again in the future. It’s always quiet, and relaxing! No potable water, so make sure you bring plenty with you, no bath houses, only privy toilets.

Most RV parks remain open year-round with gravel pads that provide stable parking regardless of weather conditions.
Lake activities: Rutledge Lake RV Resort offers fishing opportunities in their stocked lake, with paddle boats and kayaks available for rent. "We had spot #10 water front. It had plenty of space for the 5 of us and 2 dogs. Nice gravel level sites," notes one camper at Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

Another reviewer mentioned "helicopters & a train that comes by."
Seasonal considerations: While most parks remain open year-round, some limit facilities in winter. A reviewer at Red Gates mentioned the park operates from "Apr 1 - Nov 1," which contrasts with Spartanburg-area parks that typically remain open all year.

Swimming options: During summer months, swimming provides relief from heat. At Rutledge Lake RV Resort, visitors enjoy "a heated pool & lake activities" with reports that "the pool was clean."
Cabin alternatives: When tent camping isn't ideal, consider cabins. At Wilderness Cove Campground, one family shared their experience: "2 nights in tents and 2 in a River Cottage. The tent camping is not quite 'roughing it'... Moving to the cottage was meant to be easier on my kid, but I didn't expect all the amenities: refrigerator, screened in porch, and very comfy beds."
Site selection: For maximum privacy at RV campgrounds near Spartanburg, South Carolina, request specific sites. At Rutledge Lake, "There are a few sites along the creek on the back left that are a little wooded and have some separation... but most sites are very close together, many probably less than 15' apart."
Connectivity considerations: Cell coverage generally works well throughout the region. At Fireside RV Park, campers report "I had 2-3 bars of AT&T LTE Wireless signal," though dedicated internet can be problematic with some noting "WiFi was just useable."
Utility placement: Check hookup locations before arrival. Some RVers note challenges with utilities at certain parks. At one Spartanburg area campground, an RVer mentioned "The sewer outlet at our site was placed in the back of our site and I needed a hose about 35' long to reach it."
