New phase 2 Area. Location on map is incorrect. CG is located east of Jenkinville on SC-215. Definitely for both long term and overnight RV. We have been here for a month. Aside from the commute to anywhere this is a good campground. The staff is what makes it a 5 star along with the awesome sunsets.

The owner was very kind and friendly. There is a very cute love swing by the pond y’all beautiful oak trees. Very quiet and peaceful. I would give 5 stars however one of the long term residents was screaming at me and my boyfriend for walking our dogs at 11 pm and called the police, when the police came he told them my boyfriend “ a black man was walking around” rude and racist.

    Quiet

Stayed only overnight at this park. Very quiet park, bathrooms were closed to overnight guests so didn't get to see them. Full hook ups(including sewer) which were easy to access. Spots were SUPER close together and no picnic tables, but great spot to stay for a night. We camped at Broad River Campground in a Travel Trailer.  Campground is pretty far from restaurants, grocery stores, etc so plan accordingly.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

Nice, but could use some updates

We camped here March 6-10. The park is in Columbia SC, and is a great choice for families who may want to do things outside the park. The park is super close to the Riverbanks Zoo. We stayed during a rainy time, which was fine for us since we didn’t need to entertain kids that trip. The campground is pretty small, but average for an SC state park. There are a few “improved” sites with full hookups, but they are all pretty close together, and don’t have much privacy. We stayed in the 2nd loop, where the campsites were more spaced out, and had more trees. Most of the sites are sand, and not very level. A few have gravel and are level. Most sites would be really difficult for a larger trailer or motor home do the the size of the sites. The campground restrooms are the cleanest I’ve ever seen! The campground hosts were always checking and cleaning the sites and restrooms (We did go during the week, in March). The amenities are few, but would be super fun in summer. There’s a splash pad, and canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards to rent. There’s a very small lake, but no swimming is allowed. There are a couple of “hiking” trails that are more like nice walks. There’s also a bike trail that we didn’t check out.

    Lake Greenwood State Park Campground

    Surprisingly Accomodating, Even When Crowded

I had never visited Lake Greenwood, save for driving by on the way from Augusta to Greenville. So when no other State Park had reservations available for Labor Day weekend, I was hesitant to book here. I will admit, I was mistaken. My in-laws and my parents both pulled their camper trailers, while I pulled my Jayco pop-up. I was very satisfied with the size of the spaces, which were accurate compared to the website. The camp website also accurately informs campers about the grade of campsite driveways, which did become an issue for my parent’s trailer. The sites are generally not much more than an asphalt driveway, and a gravel picnic table/fire ring area. I didn’t see many tent campers in this part of the campground, and I would imagine tent camping would be especially uncomfortable (hot) during the summer months. Electrical hookups are new, and standard, and water hookups are plenty for even the biggest of rigs.

The campground maintains decent tree/shade coverage, especially on the outer sites. The sites near/on the water are also shaded and have the added bonus of the lake breeze, although they are a bit crowded; very close to the sites next door. Speaking of which, perhaps due to the sold-out Labor Day weekend, but most probably because of the design of the campground and lakeside access, foot traffic was heavy between and around my campsite. This was annoying as always, and made me feel like I needed to bring in all of my chairs, etc when I left the site.

There are several bathhouses spread throughout the campground. Each one has two showers, two sinks, and two toilets, though at my closest bathhouse, one of the showers was out of order. The bathhouses were always very clean, and did not have the usual peeling paint and army of bugs and spiders that some bathhouses seem to maintain as a matter of principle.

Nearby Ninety Six NHS was a great half-day attraction, less than 15 mins away. Greenwood City is also a draw. Of course, the gem is Lake Greenwood. I was wishing the entire weekend that I had a boat to enjoy the cool clear water.

Bottom line, I have plans to come back on a less crowded weekend, and definitely with a boat.

    Great camp ground

This park has a great group camp sites. We have taken are cub scouts and Boy Scout troop here many times. The RV camp ground has too side a larger side which is newer and an older side. The older of the RV camp site is a little Tight but can 1 get a 40ft trailer in with no problem. The new side has Plenty of room for large RV. Bath houses are clean and well Maintain. Staff is great to work with. Bring your fishing rod Plenty of fishing. There is also a great swimming area and playgrounds.

    Military campground with spacious sites

The campground was nice, the RV spaces had nice concrete pads and nice cabins. The roads had some serious potholes and the the campground doesn’t seem to be on a regular maintenance schedule but it was clean. There are a number of bugle calls that happen during the day on the speaker. All in all a nice campground and we would stay again.

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Beautiful, but pricey…

Weston Lakes is located at Fort Jackson, on the South Side of the Base.

It has a large recreation area with about 20 or 30 RV spots. I was in a spot that had the Hookups at opposite end of concrete pad and opposite side. I ended up buying an additional 20 ft. of dumping tubing ($60).

The area is very nice and somewhat quiet. But with all the other amenities there like boating, fishing, field sports, etc. they charge $35 a night. This is over 1K for a month with a three month maximum. You need to be either active or retired Military, which I was not. My Father was the Commander at Fort Jackson for 8+ years and he sponsored me so I could stay.

Once back in Columbia, SC after Thanksgiving I am moving to a park that is only $390 a month as I will be in Columbia for a while.

If money is no object then this would be a 4 star + rating. But not for me.

We chose this for our first trip in 2021. It’s a big grassy area and has full hookups. Nice little store. It is a great place for kids. They have several playgrounds for kids! It’s a bit out there and is 20 or so miles off I77 and the Columbia, SC area. I would say it’s average. I might go back.

    Chester State Park Campground

State Park with a Beautiful View of the Lake

I gave this campground four stars, but only for RVs and travel trailers. I would not give it four stars for tent campers. Tent campers would have a hard time finding a suitable site that would not be too rocky. When I checked in, the lady was nice enough to find a site with grass behind the gravel so I could set up my tent. She didn’t warn me that it was sloped. With that said, it is a campground in a beautiful setting. The lake and the sitting area beside the lake are both beautiful. There is a paved walkway down to the lake to a sitting area and a dock. The bath house was air conditioned, almost too much. It is a shock to the system moving from the intense South Carolina heat into the bath house. However, it was a nice break from the heat. Be aware that when you take a shower, you may have to wait a few minutes for the hot water to start. When I first turned it on, I wondered if there was any hot water. Eventually it came, and it was HOT, so I had to adjust it quickly. Also, take your own hand soap with you. There are paper towels but no soap. There are several trails, and you can rent boats, peddle boats, canoes, and kayaks. There is also a disc golf course. If I had known beforehand, I would have taken my own discs. That’s my fault for not doing the research. My favorite part of this camping experience was waking up early in the morning and sitting by the lake. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture a photo of the ducks taking off and flying in a perfect v-formation, but it was so peaceful there. Overall, this is a great campground to get away from civilization.

    Better than I expected

This is a park on the East side of Lake Wateree. Not far off l-77. Has what you need. Full hookups picnic table and a fire pit. The owners are trying hard to improve the park. They have a security gate to keep passers by out. They have a nice deck near the boat ramp and have a little bar in the office. There are a lot of campers that stay there. I could tell the privet along and are friendly which is very important to us. I will Go back sometime. Also had better than average/strong Wi-Fi!

    Great campground!

We found this campground while traveling through Columbia SC and made a late evening reservation. We were able to reserve online and even pick our camping spot. It has full hookups and we were able to find the spot easily even in the dark. The owner called to make sure we had no questions and to explain where to pick up our packet. She was very nice and made us feel welcomed. It appears that they are a new campground and will have even more amenities soon. It was also very quiet. We will definitely be staying here on our subsequent trips through SC. I highly recommend this campground!

    Lake Greenwood State Park Campground

    Beautiful location and beautiful lake

If it weren’t for Hurricane Dorian we would have never found this gem! What a beautiful location. Most sites directly on the lake. We were 10 ft from our own swimming area. The water is clean to fish, swim, boat, kayak, jet ski. You can easily rent a pontoon and jet skis at the nearby Skippers and cruise to a great bar and grill, “break on the lake” for dinner and drinks.  The lake is big enough to explore but small enough not to get lost. The reception is helpful and bathhouses very clean.  You are 20 minutes from the cute town of Greenwood too.  Full hookups available at this state park. Picnic tables and fire rings provided too. Don’t carry your own firewood in due to possible invasive insects.

    Short stop on our drive

Picked this park to add a stop on our drive to NC, we didn’t hit the trails so I can’t review those. Site 45 was great, right by a clearing so we got the view of the gorgeous night sky. Some tree branches from two sites down came crashing on our first night and an entire tree split on a different area/ day. I didn’t feel very comfortable staying in a site under so many trees after that. (site 28) Park was cute but a lot of mosquitos, ants, bugs etc. and an Air Force training area nearby graced us the sound of heavy artillery late at night, a little disconcerting when you’re camping out in the woods. We cut the trip short. Staff was friendly and they sell firewood and a few other things at the store but not a lot, so stock up on necessities there’s nothing nearby. Roads were really heavy with potholes, so not the friendliest for rvs.

    Not a pleasant stay

Campground had some lovely views, some sites with lake access. Water and electrical hookups at most sites. RVs and tents share same area. Bright lights were burned all night, no need in complaining to camp hosts they burned strings of bright LED lights all night too. Large groups allowed, across from our tent there was a party that included 13 children. Generally noisy, lots of traffic moving at all hours. Bathhouses well maintained. Maybe okay for RV but no sleep if using a tent.
