Beautiful campground

We stayed here this past weekend and absolutely loved it. Our site was #40 and it was right on the lake. There is a skunk that comes up to your site at night but he doesnt bother anyone as long as you dont scare it. Very beautiful and peaceful campground. Friendly staff. Definitely going to return again.

Overall, the best state park in SC

We travel and camp at many places across South Carolina but this was our first visit to Calhoun Falls State Park. What a gem! Beautiful scenery, large, spacious lakeside campsites. We enjoyed privacy, lake access from our campsite, and spectacular sunset views over the lake. Rangers and staff at park store are friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to go back.

Our #1 Campsite of All Time!

Amazing Water Views. Really not a bad spot in this campsite. We stayed at site #26 and #33. The pictures here are of site #26. Awesome views. Water and Electric on each site. Super clean. Helpful staff. We will be back!

Beautiful Lake Views

We stayed here for 2 nights just this past weekend. It was easy to get to and very well maintained. Our site(site 60) was right on the lake and absolutely beautiful. The layout of the loop we were on was very well thought out and plenty of space between sites so you don't feel like you were right on top of your neighbors. The way the sites were oriented, you had a fantastic view of the lake.

One thing to really consider is proximity to Clemson. When we booked the site, it was one of only a handful available however while walking our dogs, we noticed over half of the sites were unoccupied. With the cancellation of college football, this is not surprising. Fall will be a busy time so if quiet is what you are after, I would be mindful of the Clemson home schedule.

The bath houses were very clean, however there is no soap for washing your hands so keep that in mind if you use the facilities. The dump station was also nice and easy to use. Three large dumpsters for taking trash when you empty your tanks.

Not all sites have a separate grill and fire pit which was the only downside. Ours did not, but the fire pit did have a grate you could put over a fire and cook.

Something for everyone!

Dreher Island was a great camping location! We stayed at tent sites 1&2 which was kind of like having our own private compound. If coming back again I would book tent sites 1-3 to claim the whole area! Other parts of the campgrounds seemed to be on top of each other and more sloped to access water. Access to the lake was a breeze from the site; easy to walk in the water and to get the kayaks in and out. Fishing was convenient from the shore. Bike riding was also great here although time did not allow for much of that this trip.

If interested in renting kayaks or paddle boards, I highly recommend Paddle South Outfitters. Travis was awesome and delivered kayaks right to the site and picked up too! Super nice guy!

Bathrooms were very clean and not a far walk from the campsite. Would stay beyond 2 nights next trip to explore more.

It seemed small and crowded

Pulled in on a rainy day into the wrong site. On checking in the next day, found we had to move. None of the available sites were suitable even for my small 17ft camper. After a walk around the bumpy narrow road in the campground loop, we just decided to leave.

I love this place

I spent 2 weeks in site #2. It was quiet even when it filled up on the weekend. The swim beach was nice and clean. The paved roads made the dogs happy. They had to cut down a lot of trees so plenty of free firewood. Lots of wildlife to watch. Especially being so close to the lake. Friendly staff. Friendly neighbors. The only drawback was the tiny ants. Just put down a little borax and you will be fine.

Super quiet

Really quiet and very relaxing. We had a campsite overlooking the lake. It was very beautiful. However there are no poles for the trash so the squirrels tore our trash out and there are aweful flying bugs at night. Millions of tiny bugs covered our lights at night. We had to turn our lights off. Not the campgrounds fault though. Other than that we enjoyed our weekend here.

Awesome campground

This campground is one of the most beautiful campgrounds. Loved that the site we stayed in was secluded and quiet. My kids loved night fishing at the pier.

Best of the best!

We love this campground. Beautiful waterfront spots. We floated on our tubes in the lake. Great bike riding places. Clean bathrooms. The guy at the gate is always so nice!
