    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Paris Mountain State Park Campground provides extensive pet-friendly accommodations with both standard and primitive camping options. Dogs are permitted throughout the campground area with proper leash control. The park features spacious, wooded sites with picnic tables and fire rings, though some campers note that certain sites can be unlevel due to the mountainous terrain. Tent campers, RV users with vehicles up to 30-amp service, and cabin guests can all bring their pets. The campground maintains clean bathroom and shower facilities, important for longer stays with pets. The park's trail system offers multiple pet exercise opportunities, with hiking paths surrounding several small lakes. Very quiet while camping despite proximity to Greenville.

Hiking with dogs is particularly rewarding at Paris Mountain, with numerous trails of varying difficulty surrounding the campground. The trail beside the lake leading to the dam is especially popular for dog walks, offering scenic views and water access. For more adventurous campers with pets, the North Lake primitive sites provide exceptional privacy, located about 1.5 miles from the main campground area. These sites offer a true wilderness experience while still permitting dogs. Table Rock State Park and Devils Fork State Park also accept pets at their campgrounds, providing additional options in the region. Campers should be prepared for mountain terrain when walking dogs, as some trails feature moderate elevation changes. The campground is just minutes from Greenville, where emergency veterinary services are available should they be needed during your stay with pets.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

      Awesome for dogs and people!

We camped here back in August and had a blast! We brought our two dogs and they also had a great time. This site is very dog friendly (obviously), with many sites having their own fenced in yards. We opted for a site without a fence, which we regretted once we got there. The gravel at our site was painful for our dog’s feet and they had a hard time walking on it. The dog parks made up for this! There are multiple large dog parks located at the campground. The restrooms were awesome, but are single person use only. We felt like we were the only ones using them (that’s how well maintained they were). Campsites are close together but we didn’t mind. The staff was great, they helped us find our site and even helped us back our camper in. There was power and water hookup at each site. There is tons of stuff to do around the area too. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are right around the corner and SO FUN.

      Bent River Equestrian

Great camping near mountain biking and hiking

Great place to spend a couple of nights. Went over Labor Day weekend with 5 or 6 other groups and still felt like we had full privacy. Fire pits, an outdoor shower, and a porta-potty. Cute horses and barn cats to pet and watch

      Travelers Rest-North Greenville KOA

      Ranger Review: Travelers Rest KOA

Very pretty campground in the fall. Operators live onsite and were friendly. Full connections and no issues leveling. Easy in/out and close to Greenville, Paris Mountain, Travelers Rest, Swamp Rabbit Trail etc. Bathhouses were very clean, but the lights are on motion detectors which weren’t sensitive enough to pick you up in the shower. We both had a couple moments of total darkness to contend with. A camp cat hung around our site at times and loved the heat coming out of our furnace. We don’t have pets so didn’t mind. Cell coverage was great (att & Verizon), so we had no issues working our 9-5s. Love the bubbling creek next to our site, which was so pretty from our back window. We’d definitely stay again.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

Amazing Campground for Pups and Adults

We visited this park a few weeks ago and wished we could have stayed longer! It's a well-kept, clean park within approximately half an hour from Lake Lure (where Dirty Dancing was filmed). It is an adult only campground that is dog-centric... For us the best of both worlds! Includes several dog parks for large and small breads, and a pond in which the pups can swim and splash around. We've never been to a park like this one and highly recommend it if you can get in. We'll be back for sure!

      Calhoun Falls State Park Campground

Overall, the best state park in SC

We travel and camp at many places across South Carolina but this was our first visit to Calhoun Falls State Park. What a gem! Beautiful scenery, large, spacious lakeside campsites. We enjoyed privacy, lake access from our campsite, and spectacular sunset views over the lake. Rangers and staff at park store are friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to go back.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

      Glamping with your pups

This place was a 13 hour drive and so worth it. All of the cabins and trailers available to rent are so reasonably priced and have AC and fully fucntioning appliances. Every cabin or RV rental has its own private gated yard with your own firepit. Several dog parks and a private pond for the pups means days of fun for an active, social dog. Everyone is so kind, the women who run this place are so sweet and they were incredibly accomodating. The camp store has tons of treats and necessities for dogs and people, and a dog washing station and laundry are available communally. We spent our days hiking the nearby Chimney Rock and hanging around Lake Lure (FYI Dirty Dancing was filmed here whoa). We also checked out the Equestrian center which was an awesome recommendation of the staff and also dog friendly. Definitely recommended for people who like day hikes and adventures and coming back to a cozy camp cabin.

      GSP RV PARK

      Nice park, nice people

This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights. We had a change of plans the morning of checkout, and they let us check out a little late since the park wasn’t fully booked, which was so helpful and kind of them. The park is centrally located near downtown Greer (very cute with lots of shops and restaurants) and a short drive from Greenville and Travelers Rest. We will definitely be back while passing through this area next time!

    Guide to Glendale

Paris Mountain State Park Campground offers diverse camping options in the Greenville region. The mountainous terrain creates significant variation in site levels, with several campers noting this can challenge RV setup. Located just minutes from Greenville, the park maintains multiple trail networks surrounding small lakes for hiking and provides both standard and primitive sites. Campers report the area remains quiet despite proximity to urban areas.

    What to do

Kayaking on mountain lakes: Lake Jocassee at Devils Fork State Park Campground provides excellent water recreation options. "The lake is gorgeous. Boat ramp and trailer parking. Kayak rentals available," notes Carissa D. The clear water makes this a popular destination for paddlers.

Mountain biking adventures: Several trail systems cater to cyclists of varying skill levels near Davidson River Campground. "Great place and great MtB trails super close," says Sherri T. The area includes both beginner and advanced trails through the forested terrain.

Trout fishing opportunities: Multiple parks in the region feature stocked fishing areas. "Known for trout fishing and hiking trails for all levels. Mountain streams offer fun for kids and kid-wannabes," explains Meridith M. Most fishing spots require South Carolina fishing licenses, available online or at local outfitters.

    What campers like

Lakeside campsites: Waterfront sites at Mile Creek County Park rank highly among visitors. "Each campsite has wonderful views of the water. There is a playground by the entrance and near the farthest campsites as well," reports Jake S. Most lake sites require advance reservation, especially during summer months.

Privacy between sites: The backcountry sites at Jones Gap State Park Campground offer exceptional seclusion. "The spots are clean and well maintained. Unlike other state park campgrounds, each spot is about a quart mile from the next, so you feel like you have the mountain to yourself," writes Emily S. These hike-in sites require carrying all gear from parking areas.

Clean facilities: Campground maintenance receives consistent positive reviews. "The bathrooms were definitely older, but very clean," notes Matt R. about Paris Mountain. At Mile Creek Park, "Bathhouses were conveniently located. Bath houses were clean and easy to access," adds Alicia D.

    What you should know

Site levelness challenges: Many campgrounds in the mountainous terrain feature sloping sites. "Liked the campground. No amenities per day except bathroom/showers. Nice large sites but very unlevel due to mountain side. Would not stay again because we were so unlevel our refrigerator wouldn't work," explains Cindy R. about her experience at Paris Mountain.

Advance reservations essential: Popular parks fill quickly, particularly during peak seasons. "Book your trip a few months in advance, get a spot on the water. Sites are a little small, and close together, but the sunrise from your tent/site is totally worth it," advises Devin K. about Table Rock State Park Campground.

Trail difficulty varies: The mountainous terrain creates demanding hiking conditions at some locations. "The Table Rock trail is a must if you are nearby! It is pretty strenuous especially if you have health issues but is well worth the trek to the top," shares Maggie J. Always check trail ratings and distance before starting, especially with pets or children.

    Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: Multiple parks feature swimming areas and boat launches. "We stayed here for a week and found this to be one of the quietest parks we have stayed out and used it for a base camp to hike Jones gap and table rock. The bathhouse was clean and there are lots of trails and a big pond," shares Creighton C.

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain playground facilities for children. At Twin Lakes at Lake Hartwell, "The swimming area was nice and the playgrounds were sadly closed but definitely would have been enjoyed by my kids!" notes Mariah M.

Kid-friendly hiking: Short nature trails accommodate young hikers at multiple parks. "We did a short day hike to check out the camp sites and look at the waterfalls. The trails and the park are so very well kept up!" writes Melissa R. about Jones Gap. Most visitor centers provide trail maps indicating difficulty levels and distances.

    Tips from RVers

Road access considerations: Some parks have challenging entry roads. "The road through the park back to the campground is pretty narrow at some points - we don't know how we would have managed if we had met another RV! We have a 31' Class A and we managed fine," explains Bounding Around about Davidson River.

Site selection for level setup: Research individual sites before booking to ensure adequate leveling. "We walked the next branch of the campsite which was not open, and found that sites 3-24 are much more to our liking with regards to elbow room and privacy," advises Thomas A. about Twin Lakes.

RV size limitations: Not all campgrounds accommodate larger rigs. "We were in Site 31 and were able to get level with no issues. The park has a lot of trails and scenery and is a great place for riding a bike," shares Bounding Around. Most parks list maximum vehicle lengths on their reservation platforms.
