Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Garnett, SC

Point South KOA's enclosed dog area welcomes pets at their campground located at 14 Campground Road in Yemassee. This established campground maintains a 4.7 rating and accommodates tents, RVs, and cabins with full pet-friendly policies. Dogs must remain on leash throughout the campground except when in the designated pet area. The small but functional dog park provides space for pets to exercise off-leash, with waste stations available throughout the grounds. Lake Jasper RV Park also accommodates pets with a dedicated dog park adjacent to walking trails, making longer walks with dogs convenient for campers. The park's proximity to a city trail system creates additional exercise opportunities for pets. Both campgrounds provide full hookups with water, electric, and sewer connections for RV campers.

Hunting Island State Park Campground allows pets at their oceanfront sites, though dogs are not permitted on Tybee Island beaches—a strict rule that is actively enforced. The park's walking paths provide alternative exercise options for dogs. River's End Campground & RV Park features two separate dog parks—one for small dogs and another for larger breeds—located beside the campground. Hilton Head National RV Resort offers premium pet amenities including a large, well-maintained dog park with separate areas for different sized dogs and multiple pet wash stations that feature temperature-controlled water. The dog washing facilities resemble professional grooming shops with all necessary supplies. Most campgrounds in the region require pets to be current on vaccinations, and several nearby veterinary clinics serve the Garnett area for emergency services.

    Hilton Head National RV Resort

    Stay Here

This is by far the best camp ground I have ever stayed at. Clean and spacious sites. The Bath house and private shower area were 5-star hotel quality. Great dog park very clean with separate areas for large and small pets. The pool, lazy river, Tiki Bar and restaurant area was top quality, providing plenty of lounge chairs, tables/w umbrellas, and free pool floats for the lazy river experience. The are plenty cabana setups throughout the pool complex. They were quite expensive and frankly mostly empty for the week I stayed there.(August). Food was outstanding and consistent throughout our stay. My family highly recommends a stay. We will be back.

Best of the best of everything!

This place has it all & it’s all amazing!! First of all, ALL of the staff are so incredibly kind & hospitable. 2nd, the sites are very large & have every hookup you could want including cable. The park is surrounded by a beautiful walking trail that cuts thru the woods & several areas of the campground. There’s a great, big dog park & an indoor, air conditioned dog spa with several really nice dog wash stationed with temp controlled water, not just cold. The bars are great, yummy drinks & great food. The pool….so nice. There’s a big spray fountain & an awesome lazy river. There’s also a tiki bar at the pool & you can rent cabanas. The clubhouse shop has everything you could ever want & such cute souvenirs. Stuff for the pets too. Most sites are woods views but one area has great water & golf course views. Oh, the golf course, stunning!! I’m sure I’m missing so many things but all I can say is I booked my next visit on the 1st day I was here. 10/10

    Lake Jasper RV Park

    Loved it!!!

We stayed here for two nights on our way back home from Florida to Virginia. We had a pull thru full hookup gravel site. Our two dogs had a blast at the dog park! It is located next to a city park with walking trails. And only a short 30 min drive to Savannah. Will stay again! Clean, well kept, friendly. Close to freeway.

River's End Campground & RV Park

Tight little city campground with amazing location

This is definitely a "city" campground. Spots are tight, you will be very close to your neighbors, but you'll have everything you need, including a fire ring and picnic table. Wi-Fi and cable were also on point.

There is an on-site store which seemed well stocked. However, we tried to order firewood several nights and each night, they were out of firewood.

Bugs are bad. Bring bug spray!

There are two dog parks beside the campground. One for small dogs and another for large dogs. They are nice to have but both could definitely use some work. Even though we have small dogs, we went to the big dog park because the small dog park was in really bad shape.

Walking/biking distance to the beach. Also walkable to really great coffee shop called Tybean Art & Coffee Bar.

*Warning: While Tybee Island, including the campground, is one of the most dog-friendly places I have ever been, you are not allowed to have dogs on the beaches on the island. This is so strange to me, but they are very serious about it. Don't do it.

    Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks

    Location!

What a fabulous location. So close to the 95. Easy drive through spots and all the amenities of home. Including a convenience store, laundry, a fishing river, security gates, easy check in, dog park, even video games. The best part is that it sets next to the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Museum. What a beautiful picturesque place for a walk/ hike. It really looks like a place out of the movies. Worth the $5 admission. There are a couple negatives to the campground. The spots are in incredibly close to one another. Absolutely no privacy. Also, If you are near the road, you will be surprised by the morning traffic sounds. However, if it’s just a night or two it’s a great stopover!

Guide to Garnett

Near Garnett, South Carolina, campers can find several established campgrounds within a 40-mile radius, with options ranging from state parks to private RV resorts. The region sits at low elevation within South Carolina's coastal plain, characterized by pine forests, wetlands, and proximity to both freshwater lakes and saltwater marshes. Winter temperatures average 45-65°F while summer months often reach above 90°F with high humidity.

What to do

Hiking trails and fishing access: At Skidaway Island State Park Campground, several nature trails provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. "There are a handful of nature trails that are easily accessible from the campground. The campground is also a short drive from Savannah, so it's a great base camp for exploring northeastern Georgia," notes camper Zach H.

Historical sites: Fort McAllister State Park offers Civil War history alongside camping options. "We planned this trip to coincide with the annual Civil War reenactment of Sherman's last battle on his way to the sea. It was our first reenactment and was interesting," shares William N. The park's visitor center provides context for the historic site.

Beach exploration: Hunting Island State Park Campground features unique coastal landscapes. "Beautiful beach which you can bike from the north end to the south end at low tide. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. The lighthouse is beautiful and the area very well maintained. Lots of trails for all levels," notes Cathy C. The park's "boneyard beach" with fallen trees makes for unique photography opportunities.

What campers like

Spacious, level sites: CreekFire RV Resort near Savannah earns praise for its well-designed layout. "Sites are angled so it makes backing in a breeze! And the concrete pad was almost perfectly level which made setup so quick!" shares Edward S. Most sites include concrete pads with full hookups.

Peaceful surroundings: Heirloom Hamlet provides a more rustic experience. "This is a beautiful farm of 200 acres situated 5 minutes from downtown Savannah. Everything you could ask for: pool, ponds, horseback riding, goats, beautiful landscaping, room to roam or play," notes Lea B. The property maintains a tranquil atmosphere despite proximity to urban areas.

Clean facilities: The Oaks at Point South receives positive feedback for maintenance. "One of the most level spots on gravel we have had. The two walking trails around the lakes are neat. Full hook up's including cable," mentions Wendy J. The campground features wooded sites with full hookups.

What you should know

Site selection matters: At Fort McAllister State Park Campground, some areas offer better amenities than others. "The bath house has 4 private stalls with showers. The tent pads are large and easily held two tents. The sunrise was beautiful over the marsh," reports Hannah C., though she warns, "When I was here in April the flies were awful but they went away when the sun went down."

Wildlife awareness: Multiple campgrounds report wildlife encounters. "Do NOT leave food or trash unattended or they will ransack your campsite," warns Hannah C. about raccoons at Fort McAllister. Similarly, Lake Jasper RV Park notes, "Be aware that there are snakes and alligators in and around Lake Jasper."

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "Reserve now for this Christmas/New Years eve. This place fills up fast," advises Wendy T. about Rivers End Campground. Making reservations 3-6 months in advance is recommended for weekend stays.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Lake Jasper RV Park offers multiple recreational facilities. "Super nice campground with lots of fun stuff for the kids to do. There is a small lake and kayaks, a common house for hanging out by the lake and dock area with a huge fire pit," reports Nicholas L. The park connects to Sergeant Jasper county park with additional playgrounds.

Kid-friendly activities: Point South KOA features special amenities for children. "Our kids loved the gem mining and playground. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the bathrooms were very clean," shares Christa C. The campground also offers a giant chess board, horseshoes, and corn hole.

Beach access for kids: Rivers End Campground provides family-friendly beach options. "Great campground with lots of shady oaks draped in Spanish moss. Large pool and a nice laundry/shower area," notes Wendy T. The campground is within walking distance to North Beach on Tybee Island.

Tips from RVers

Dog friendly campgrounds near Garnett: River's End Campground & RV Park accommodates pets with dedicated facilities. "Very pet friendly," notes Nicholas & Elizabeth H. The campground features two dog parks—one for small dogs and another for larger breeds—located adjacent to the grounds.

Site considerations: For larger RVs, site selection requires research. "The campground is beautiful and well-maintained. The area is convenient to downtown Savannah and not too far from Tybee Island," shares Ashley A., though others note some sites can be tight for larger rigs.

Leveling needs: Many campgrounds require leveling equipment. "Off 4 inches on the left, so bring extra blocks to help level," advises Joe R. about The Oaks at Point South. Having leveling blocks and stabilization equipment helps ensure comfort, especially at parks with natural terrain.
