Sitting alongside the Williamson River just off Highway 97 in Chiloquin, Waterwheel RV Park & Campground serves as a practical base for exploring south-central Oregon, with Crater Lake National Park roughly 40 minutes to the northwest and Klamath Falls about 25 minutes south. The park has 34 sites arranged in three rows, with sites 1 through 11 fronting the river and full hookups concentrated in the center row (sites 12 through 20). Campers interested in campgrounds around Chiloquin will find this one of the more amenity-complete options in the area, with 30- and 50-amp electric service, water and sewer hookups, a dump station, showers, and WiFi.
The Williamson River is the campground's defining feature. A dock, boat ramp, and small beach give direct water access, and a footbridge connects to a small island where dogs can go off-leash and swim. Site 11 is frequently cited by reviewers as the most desirable, positioned at the corner of the river row with more privacy than adjacent sites. River-row sites facing east also tend to get open sightlines toward the water, though they come with no shade. "Plus, you and your dog can swim in the Williamson River that is there onsite," notes On the Road of Adventure K., who stayed a full week.
Cleanliness is a consistent point across reviews. The restrooms and showers are keypad-accessed and described repeatedly as well-maintained. A laundry room and a small playground round out the on-site facilities. Nearby alternatives include Sportsman's River Retreat RV Park and Campground to the west, for campers who want to compare options before booking.
Highway noise is the most common complaint. The park sits close enough to Highway 97 that road sounds carry, particularly after dark when ambient noise drops. Sites are also tight. As Lee D. observed, the full-hookup center sites have "no privacy between them," and utility hoses and cables can run directly past picnic areas. Slides on larger rigs may require repositioning to clear neighboring units or trees. Verizon and AT&T both provide usable signal throughout the park.
Reservations are recommended for river-row sites, especially in summer when those spots fill first. The campground operates year-round, so shoulder-season visits in spring or fall tend to be less crowded and come with the same full amenity access.
