To enter the grounds you need a hunting/fishing license or a 3day wildlife conservation passport. The passport is for any activity on the grounds, excluding hunting or fishing and they are $51 currently.

        Great place to stop.

Full hookups, level lot and extremely friendly staff that went above and beyond for us for our short stay. It is right near the road so it’s not very quiet, but there’s not much anyone can do about that. Conveniently located near a small grocery store and a few restaurants. Would not hesitate to stop over for a few days again.

        Beautiful river

The water was amazing and clean. We went on a Tuesday so there wasn’t any one else there. We did some awesome exploring up and down the river. There was so many campsites and they were all well maintained and flat. There is a huge flashing sign going into the area telling every adult to have a fishing/hunting license. The fishing however is not good. We stayed for 3 days and fished the whole time with no luck. There’s a really neat little spot south of the dam with a rope swing.

        Good times.

Taught my two boys at 8 & 9 years old how to camp and fish there 31 years ago. Had many good times. Wish I could go back in time. 🥲 Did a lot of camping with the boys . Winter or fall was best. Large camp fire, many blankets. And a good tent. Still have my VCR tapes camping. . And the VCR player.😂😂 Would usually camp across the spill way 2nd area to the right. Also I'd recommend the last camping spot to the right at the very end you can walk down to the river and fish. Nice open area with trails to the river. Was always a Bass man but learned how to trout fish there. I would check when trout tournaments are going on. Gets very crowded. Wish I could go back in time. I've camped there when I was the only person camping. One of the things I didn't like was when camping trailers would come to camp . Sometimes you would hear their generators start up across the river but most of the time very nice and peaceful.  I always camped across the river. Highly recommend this place for family and someone that just wants peace and quiet which is most of the time out there. Would recommend going during the week, weekends tend to get a little crowded summertime. swimming and fishing. Wildlife. Before entering the river I would stop at Scotty's bait shop which 30 years ago had great breakfast all the supplies you need and Scotty was a really really nice guy let me fish on his property when my boys were small because we weren't catching anything at the river hopefully he's been doing well. Just remember… take with you what you brought and a little extra that someone left. Keep it clean and nice for our future campers.  The boys and I always brought shovel and toilet paper. At that time there was only one main brick bathroom. Usually too many hornets and wasp so we just dug a hole and buried it you know what I mean haha camping in the woods. Haven't been there in 20 plus years someday I'll go back set up a tent and reminisce. Hopefully it's still a nice place. Ed, from Wellston Oklahoma

        Perfect Developed Campsite

I was just passing through on a road trip and needing a cheap place to spend the night, but this was the kind of park I’d actually come back to and hang out in. The camp sites are spread out and clean. The lake views are beautiful. There are tons of activities like hiking, fishing, or paddle boarding.

        Not the best

I booked here for the FHU sites, but was not overly impressed. The Bois loop pull throughs, although paved, were severely sloped and hard to level. The hiking trails were not that great either. Convenient off 75.

        Secluded and quiet

We had had a blowout on our rv and needed to stay the night instead of finishing our travel they answered the phone on a Sunday which surprised me (I had call around) The lady at the desk was so helpful and informed us about discounts my husband was missing because of his service (National Guard Vet) which has been so greatly appreciated! The spot was unleveled but that’s no big deal if you have leveling blocks. Very beautiful and quiet when we visited in early August. The man in charge when we left was very helpful and mingled a moment with my husband before we headed home nice people and clean establishment definitely will be going back

        Blue River Camp

        Pleasant Surprise!😃

When I arrived at the location to which my GPS directed me, I was a little concerned that there was just a building with bathrooms and three large dumpsters off to the side.

If I had a been brave enough to drive my little Mustang down the gravel path that was on the opposite side of the road leading away from the restrooms, I would have found waterfront campsites along the Blue River, large boulder, formations to climb, and beautiful views.

What I did, though, was continue down the road I had a been on and found a large dirt parking lot. There were fire pits and designated camping set up along one side of the parking lot, which seemed a little weird.

There was a gravel road on the opposite side of the parking lot that led to the RV camping and a couple of tent sites along that road, so I chose one. The campsite was secluded with several paths that lead down to the river.

What I found to be the best part of this area was Hughes Crossing! It’s a waterfall that you can drive over. I did not attempt this in the mustang, but watched several trucks easily pass over.

Not only is there a beautiful little waterfall that also substitutes as a bridge, but the area is perfect for swimming. There is a bit of green algae, but it is otherwise clear and refreshing.

The only downside was the amount of trash that people had left. I think I might make it a new goal to try to carry out at least one or two grocery bags worth of other people’s trash so that I can hopefully leave places better than I found them.

        All around excellent

I have camped here many times. The park is well maintained and offers beautiful hiking trails and scenery. It is also safe with plenty of staff making rounds to ensure everyone's safety. I have stayed at their pull through camper sites, shelters, as well as tent camping with no complaints. The park is also undergoing construction upgrades and new paved roads ATM but the areas are clearly identified on their website. Definitely a family friendly park with plenty of wildlife to enjoy!

        Great Place!

Tented 2 nights. Spot A5. Spot was good. Right on the water. Could boat up if you wanted. Nice and shady, even good shade in the direct western sun. Beautiful sunsets! Hike right from camp.

Reason for only 4 stars: toilet pits and bathhouse needs a little TLC. It’s time to clean up the shorelines. And the site ground could use some grass. Tax dollars don’t really help so don’t forget to DONATE!

        Clayton Lake State Park Campground

        Beautiful Nature, BIG BIG Sky!

If you love getting the full effect of beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and stars - this may be the perfect spot for you to watch the skies! If you check dark-skies maps, you'll see that Clayton Lake is right on the edge of the section of SE Oklahoma with the least light-pollution. So if your favorite Southeast Oklahoma spot is booked, give this little hidden treasure a shot!

If you like foraging and looking for cold-season decomposers like I do, you'll find plenty of mushrooms and moss under the canopy.

There are plenty of cheap B&Bs in the area as well if you want a really secluded trip into the forest - definitely one of my favs!

        Nice Lake front Campround

This is a nice campground with decently wooded sites. The site I sated had water, electric, a picnic table, a fire pit and a lantern post. There was a flat spot to set up my tent. The campground had decent star views and was a short walk to clean pit toilets. The showers were a short drive away and were also clean.

        Nice Lake Front Campground

This is a nice campground on the shore of a small man made lake. The lake has a boat ramp and fishing pier. Some of the sites need minor repairs and the some disgusting person made a mess of the men's pit toilet but the a crew cleaned it in the morning.  The campground has decent views of the stars especially looking north. The site I chose was close to the lake and relatively level.
