      Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

      Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

      Great location

The location here is pretty crazy it’s right in the middle of town but feels like a park there is a river and wooded area that makes you feel like you are in nature but you are just a parking lot away from an arena and college. There is a playground and a dog park. Here as well as ball diamonds. This is a great family friendly place but is very very busy during the season.

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

      Adventure Bound Pleasant View

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

Grand Lake St. Marys State Park Campground

      Off Season and No Water

We love camping in the off season but with that comes closures. Some sections of the campgrounds might not be open, no camp hosts and limited bathrooms and showers houses. This is to be expected, but when I called the morning of our trip to make sure potable water was available and I was told yes it was only to drive 2 hours and realized they were wrong. No water 🙁. This would not have been a peas we have dry camped before but all the bathrooms were closed as well.

After called the park ranger he did let us get some water at the maintenance building so we were at least able to finish the weekend. Lesson learned always pull with at least some water.

Now back to the campground itself was nice and clean. Site are a little close together. The biggest down side is you are there to enjoy the lake but the lake had algae warnings everywhere not to go near the water.

They do have a dog park, pool and splash pad when in season and a marina. Also they have WiFi and good cell coverage.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet, Off the Beaten Path

We like this place a lot. Tucked away in NW Ohio, close to the Michigan & Indiana border.

We were in the north campground. Sites are all level, many very spacious which is unusual for Ohio SPs. No FHUs but don't let that stop you from visiting.

    Guide to Paulding

Campgrounds near Paulding, Ohio provide spaces for both tent and RV camping in northwest Ohio's agricultural landscape. The region sits on relatively flat terrain at elevations between 700-800 feet above sea level, with moderate summer temperatures averaging in the 80s. Camping options range from rustic state park sites to private facilities with water recreation areas that accommodate both overnight visitors and seasonal campers.

    What to do

Fishing access points: At Independence Dam State Park Campground, campers can fish along the Maumee River. "The park itself is very narrow and long, and stretches down the Maumee River bank. It's very green with lots of trees and shade cover," notes Andy K. Sites 11-15 offer the best river access according to campers.

Kayaking opportunities: The Maumee River at Independence Dam provides paddling options. "There is an opening near the middle of the campsite which allows access, along with access for kayaks, which is pretty cool," explains a reviewer. Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground offers another water experience where "there are a handful of paddle up camping spots that are very hard to reserve."

Trail systems: Multiple parks feature walking and biking paths. "The paved path that goes along the camping sites is very nice and makes for a great walk or bike ride," reports a visitor to Independence Dam. Chain O' Lakes is "great for one or two days doing easy day hikes or short floats on small connected lakes," though some trails need "better directional signs as to which path is which."

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Johnny Appleseed Campground receives consistent praise for its maintenance standards. "Bathrooms are A+ with a code for only campers," states Felicia. Another camper notes "They have the best bathrooms that I have ever seen in the campgrounds. You can even look out at the skylight at the sky."

Swimming options: Huggy Bear Campground offers multiple swimming areas. "Tons to do especially for kids, pet friendly, definitely get rowdy on the weekends- book ahead to snag the best sites. Mini golf, fishing, 3 pools, inflatable in the water," reports Allie H. The campground has a scheduled activities program with weekend events.

Lake recreation: Harrison Lake State Park Campground features a good-sized, no-wake lake. "The lake is nice for swimming and there are bike rentals which was fun as well. We did not use it, but there is a dog beach as well," shares Sherrie W. Canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are available for exploring the water.

    What you should know

Site selection considerations: At Harrison Lake, "the North Campground has larger sites spaced a bit apart to afford you some privacy (or at least as much as you can expect at a state park campground)." In contrast, "The South Campground has smaller sites that were much more closely packed together."

Security factors: Some campsites at Harrison Lake have unusual positioning. "Throughout both campgrounds, there are sites on the outer edge that are next to a main road with nothing but a small, wooden split-rail fence dividing the state park from the outside world."

Reservation timing: For pet friendly camping near Paulding, Ohio, booking in advance is crucial at popular sites. At Huggy Bear Campground, a visitor advises to "book ahead to snag the best sites." During holiday weekends, campgrounds fill quickly, especially sites with premium views or amenities.

    Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Blue Water Campground offers various water recreation options. "They have everything you need for a long stay. Pool, lakes, very dog friendly, activities, food, washer and dryer, showers!" reports Nicole S. These amenities make it particularly suitable for extended stays with children and pets.

Playground facilities: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Woodbrige Campground, "The park and jump pad the kids had a blast on. This campground was very enjoyable," shares Ed A. These designated play spaces provide activities when families aren't swimming or hiking.

Weekend atmosphere: Family campers should note weekend crowding patterns. At Woodbrige, "Thursday the campground was an almost ghost town. But once The weekend rolled around the place was packed." This timing consideration affects facility availability and noise levels.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: RV campers find diverse utility options at campgrounds near Paulding. At Pokagon State Park Campground, visitors note "Only electric hookups, but good for a short weekend." For longer stays, consider campgrounds with full hookups.

Water quality issues: Some campers report water concerns at certain facilities. At Woodbrige Campground, one reviewer noted "the only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the water had a strong sulfur smell coming out of the fresh water hook up. Next time I'd fill my tank prior to arrival with fresh water."

Site leveling: Several campgrounds have uneven sites requiring preparation. At Pokagon State Park, "Sites are shorter and sometimes uneven." RVers should bring leveling blocks and check site descriptions before booking to ensure compatibility with their rig size.
