Best RV Parks & Resorts near Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH

Geneva-on-the-Lake provides several RV accommodation options with varying levels of hookup availability. Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake features gravel sites with full hookups, operating from May through mid-October, while nearby Kenisee's Grand River Campground offers 50-amp service and pull-through sites for larger motorhomes. Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake, located in Jefferson, maintains both 30 and 50-amp full hookup sites with back-in and pull-through options across its spacious property. Perry Township Park provides more basic electric-only sites with 30-amp service suitable for smaller RVs. "The sites are gravel based and generally spacious, though some areas near the waterfront have sites closer together with very little privacy between them," according to one visitor.

Most RV parks in the area require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends and fall color season when Lake Erie attracts significant tourism. Access roads throughout the region are generally well-maintained, though navigating some of the older campgrounds may present challenges for larger motorhomes. Dump stations are available at most parks, with Sun Retreats and Kenisee's offering full sewer hookups at premium sites. Cell service varies by carrier, with visitors reporting good AT&T coverage but spotty T-Mobile reception. The camping season typically runs May through October, with most facilities closing during winter months. Many parks allow pets but enforce leash requirements and designated pet areas. Propane refill services are limited, requiring RVers to plan ahead for longer stays during cooler weather.

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    Shenango Campground

    Huge COE

After getting off I80, our RV GPS wanted to take us on a wonky route, so we followed Waze and the campground’s(CG) web instructions that took us across the causeway on N. Hermitage Rd, then a right turn off on Birchwood Rd, which led us to take a left turn back across N. Hermitage Rd to get back to the Shenango Rec Area turn. Once we got to the CG, check in was quick and very easy. Just happened, our next door neighbor/camp host checked us in and told us we could get water off their site so we proceeded straight to site 199 that’s a back in with electric(50/30 AMP) only plus one of the better spaced sites in the CG. We had to maneuver a couple of times to get into the 90 degree site but the road was wide with no obstacles to prevent swinging into the site. We quickly found out that our 50 AMP connection had issues and after reporting it, a maintenance crew came within 20 minutes and fixed a bad breaker. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a handful of OTA channels. Due to the amount of mature trees, satellite would be iffy depending on your site. There are no FHU sites(camp host sites have electric& water). Electric sites are centrally grouped within the loops and spaced closer together than most COEs. The majority of the sites within this CG are dry camping and they too are fairly close together. The sites right on the lake were all dry camping. With all the dry camping sites in this CG, its nice that they allow generator use during non quiet hours. Quiet hours here are 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. There are water spigots periodically located within the loops and the CG map identifies where they are. There’s also a two-lane dump station located near the entrance but there is no potable water. There are signs stating no alcohol in the park, but people were openly drinking. We also noted that the contractors who clean the restroom/shower facilities start early in the morning and close the facility while cleaning, which was inconvenient for the dry campers just waking up. If we were to stay at this CG again, we’d come during the week and get a dry camping site on the water.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

Guide to Geneva-on-the-Lake

Geneva-on-the-Lake sits along the shores of Lake Erie in northeast Ohio, with elevations ranging from 575 to 700 feet above sea level. The camping season typically runs from May through mid-October due to the area's seasonal climate, which features warm summers with average highs in the 80s and cool falls with temperatures dropping into the 50s. Most campgrounds in the area maintain gravel pads and roads that can become dusty during dry periods.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The campgrounds near Geneva-on-the-Lake offer multiple fishing spots for both novice and experienced anglers. At Kool Lakes Family RV Park, visitors report excellent fishing conditions. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," explains one camper.

Swimming options: Many local campgrounds maintain swimming areas separate from fishing ponds. Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground has a lake specifically for swimming. "Our family really enjoyed staying here, and our kids especially loved swimming and fishing in the lake," reports a visitor who appreciates the dual-purpose water features.

Farm experiences: For families seeking unique outdoor activities, The Farm at Grand River offers agricultural experiences alongside camping. A visitor notes, "My 6 year old daughter lived her farm animal dream life for a week! The hosts were so accommodating. My daughter loved the free movie nights under stars, running wild with the goats, and the play houses kept her busy for hours!"

What campers like

Spacious campsites: Many campers appreciate the generously sized sites at certain campgrounds. At Hidden Lakes Family Campground, one reviewer noted, "Our site was lakeside and was probably the largest campsite I ever stayed in. Some areas were not as big, especially the pull through sites toward the front, but most of the sites on the back side were large."

Clean facilities: Visitors frequently mention bathroom cleanliness as a deciding factor when choosing rv parks in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. A camper at Indian Creek RV Resort commented, "We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them."

Entertainment amenities: Campgrounds in the Geneva-on-the-Lake region often provide various recreational facilities. At Kenisee's Grand River Campground, one visitor shared, "Great RV spot! Loved our short stay, clean & lots to do," while another noted the availability of "entertainment provided during the summer time. Several lakes for swimming and fishing."

What you should know

Seasonal limitations: Most campgrounds in the area operate from May through mid-October. At Kenisee Lake RV Campground, the season runs from "April 27 to October 23," offering slightly more camping time than other facilities in the region.

Internet connectivity challenges: Cell service and WiFi can be unreliable throughout the Geneva-on-the-Lake area. One camper at Kenisee Lake RV Campground noted, "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet," suggesting standard connections may be inadequate.

Firewood restrictions: Many campgrounds prohibit outside firewood and require purchase on-site. A visitor to Hidden Lakes Family Campground explained, "They don't allow outside firewood and you have to pay $12 a bundle for theirs. This adds some cost to the stay, though I'm not sure how much they enforce it."

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated children's activities: Several rv parks near Geneva-on-the-Lake offer scheduled programs for younger campers. One visitor to Indian Creek RV Resort shared, "Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program."

Choose campgrounds with multiple recreation options: West Haven RV Park provides various amenities that appeal to different age groups. "Loved West Haven. The site was kept nice & loved the brick pavers patio. Very clean & quiet. Fishing pond & pool are so nice too," reports one family.

Consider noise levels: Some campgrounds are quieter than others. A camper at Hidden Lakes noted, "This campground was exactly what I was looking for, a quiet campground with a large campsite. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed our time there. Even with the holiday weekend, the campground was very quiet."

Tips from RVers

Site surface details: RVers should note the site conditions before booking. At Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake, a visitor observed, "Nice huge CG with mostly long term residents. Gravel roads and relatively level gravel sites. Good FHUs. A lot of amenities for things to do."

Campground management: Owner responsiveness can significantly impact your stay. One RVer at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground shared, "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections."

Location considerations: Proximity to local attractions affects the overall camping experience. Many RVers choose to stay near the Geneva-on-the-Lake strip for convenience. A camper at Kenisee's Grand River Campground appreciated that it was "close to many activities in Geneva on the lake, the strip!" while another mentioned it was "minutes from Geneva on the lake."
