Geneva State Park Campground features dedicated pet-friendly campsites with paved parking areas across its grounds, allowing dogs throughout the main camping loops with proper leashing. Most sites are electric-only, though a limited number of full hookup sites now exist. Willow Lake Campground provides an exceptional fenced dog park with a climbing apparatus, fire hydrant, and all-grass surface for pets to exercise safely. Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake (formerly Indian Creek RV Resort) accommodates pets at its RV sites, tent areas, and cabin rentals, though specific pet policies vary by accommodation type. The campgrounds enforce standard pet policies requiring owners to clean up after pets, keep dogs leashed when outside designated off-leash areas, and prevent excessive barking during quiet hours. The area provides grassy walking paths throughout campground properties, though none directly border Lake Erie. Dogs are prohibited on the main swimming beaches at Geneva State Park, but can access designated shoreline areas when leashed. Most campgrounds require proof of current rabies vaccination at check-in, with pet fees typically ranging from $5-10 per night depending on accommodation type and length of stay.

    Hidden Lakes Family Campground

Quiet and Peaceful with Large Sites

This campground was exactly what I was looking for, a quiet campground with a large campsite. I have very few complaints. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed our time there. Even with the holiday weekend, the campground was very quiet. Our site was lakeside and was probably the largest campsite I ever stayed in. Some areas where not as big, especially the pull through sites toward the front, but most of the sites on the back side were large. Most sites looked pretty level. Ours sloped up toward the road, but our trailer was not log enough for it to be an issue. The road are mostly dirt and dusty, but didn't bother me. I Site was large enough that there wasn't dust blowing and the traffic was pretty minimal. t was worse when it rained and everything was muddy when we were trying to leave. There are some seasonal campers with golf carts, but It wasn't overwhelming and we didn't feel like we were invading a private neighborhood. The larger lake was bigger than I anticipated and was big enough to paddleboard/kayak on. The pool as fine, nothing special, but good enough for a quick dip. We didn't' use the swimming lake, but it had a sand beach. The location is about 30 minutes from Geneva on the Lake. There are several wineries about 15-20 min away that we visited. My biggest complaint I had was the firewood rule. As another reviewer mentioned, they don't allow outside firewood and your have to pay$12 a bundle for theirs. This adds some cost to the stay, thought I'm not sure how much they enforce it. We saw some rather large fires going around the campground and I doubt they were burning that much wood at$12 a bundle. The other rules were reasonable and I think making people acknowledge them at booking and checking in reinforces it. It is nice to not have to hear your neighbor 3 sites away playing music at 10:00 at night. No sewer hookups that I saw, but the bathroom was clean. Only one main bathhouse with some port-johns in the back areas. Overall, we were happy and would consider going back.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Check this one out!

Easy to get to, not crowded, the sites were paved and spaced decently and, it had bike paths! Another bonus is that it borders Lake Erie. We spent the next two days exploring the park and riding our bikes. There is a very quaint little “beach” town, Geneva on the Lake, that was within pedaling distance. We rode our bikes to town one night for dinner and ate outside at Eddie‘s Diner.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Nice campground!

This campground is near access to Lake Erie, which was very nice! The campground has nice spots, but they aren’t very secluded/private. The campground has bathrooms and showers. Geneva on the lake is a short drive away and was a cute little town to visit!

    Perry Township Park

    Truly a Hidden Gem!

Perry Township Park campground is exactly what campground should be: great accommodations, beautiful views, tremendous service, and easy accessibility to a lot of fun stuff :-)

Most of the tent sites (there are only a few), are pretty uneven. But the views are incredible! You are just a stones throw away from Lake Erie, a boat launch, and a private beach. There’s no lifeguard on duty, so it’s definitely everything “at your own risk.“

Quick tip: make time to swing by the nearby town Geneva on the Lake. plenty of touristy kind of stuff for those interested!

    MillBrook Resort

    Very good campground.

This campground is a Coast to Coast property with many things to offer. The people that work at the campground are awesome and do many activities with the kids. If you have the opportunity to check this campground, it is close to many wineries, Geneva on the lake, and Pyamatuning lake.

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

Guide to Geneva-on-the-Lake

Geneva-on-the-Lake sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie at approximately 660 feet above sea level, with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping season. The area features glacial deposits and sandy beaches along its 3-mile shoreline. Campgrounds near Geneva-on-the-Lake range from state park facilities to private resorts with varying levels of shade and terrain.

What to do

Lake access without the beach crowds: While Geneva State Park prohibits dogs on main swimming beaches, Perry Township Park provides alternatives. "There is so much here to keep you happy. Not a bad view to be had, easy access to the lake, and burgers and dogs at the pavilion," notes Kate at Perry Township Park.

Bike the shoreline trails: Cyclists can enjoy paved paths connecting campgrounds to local attractions. "Great campground with bike trails leading all the way in to Geneva By the Lake where you will find entertainment for the family," shares Linda R. about Geneva State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple campgrounds offer fishing access in both Lake Erie and stocked ponds. At Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake, "This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use," according to Jeff & Steff's Excellent Adventure.

What campers like

Proximity to wineries and attractions: The area's location in Ohio wine country makes it ideal for adult getaways. "Stayed here for a girls weekend in Geneva at one of the tent sites... Located within a matter of minutes to several wineries in the area," explains Rachel K. about Kenisee's Grand River Campground.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathroom facilities across area campgrounds. "The campground has bathrooms and showers. Geneva on the lake is a short drive away and was a cute little town to visit!" notes Rebecca A. about Geneva State Park.

Entertainment options: Many campgrounds provide on-site activities beyond typical amenities. "I've been a seasonal camper at Kennisee for 5 years. It's a great place with a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities," reports Kent R.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most campgrounds in the Geneva-on-the-Lake area operate seasonally from May through October. Weekends fill quickly during peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Site privacy varies: Some campgrounds offer more spacious sites than others. "We had site 12, which was upfront near the office, showers etc. Great location if your staying more than a few hours," mentions Mary Elisabeth D. about Kenisee's Grand River.

Pet policies differ by accommodation: While most campgrounds are pet-friendly, specific rules vary. At Willow Lake Campground, the "dog park is fenced in, no bare spots (all grass), a rock and other apparatus for dogs to climb and they even have a fire hydrant! Plus two shady spots under trees for adults to sit and relax," according to lorie.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-focused activities: Some campgrounds offer dedicated children's programming. "The wrist band for kid activities is well worth it," recommends Stacie J. about Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday.

Consider campground size and noise: Larger campgrounds can be busy during peak times. "Nice spot but can get crowded when full. Nearby beach," notes Rebekah C. about Geneva State Park Campground.

Check playground options: For families with young children, on-site play areas provide entertainment. "The site was large, wooded, and well maintained. The facilities were very clean as well. There is a bike trail, hiking trails, and the beach is near. Kids were entertained by the park and adults were content," shares Sara S.

Tips from RVers

Site surface considerations: Different campgrounds offer varying site surfaces. "The sites are big with a range of surfaces available. Family run and immaculately kept," describes lorie about Willow Lake Campground.

Seasonal site options: For frequent visitors to the area, some campgrounds offer seasonal options. "This is a very nice, very secure campground that isn't far from a lot of attractions and wineries in the Geneva region of Ohio's wine country. But at the same time, removed enough to be quiet and relaxing," reports Kevin C. at Willow Lake Campground.

Utility hookups: Most campgrounds offer electrical hookups, but full hookup availability varies. "Gravel roads and relatively level gravel sites. Good FHUs. A lot of amenities for things to do," notes JOHN T. about Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake.
