      Ferrum Park Campground

Nice campground for dry camping. Campground is fairly new and is still improving. The network of hiking trails are very nice and connect with nearby Ferrum College. The nonprofit that owns the campground has plans to add electric and water in the future.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

Stopped here after our fiasco with holly bluff. Beautiful campground with trees. Very quiet during the day and peaceful. The only thing we found curious was the vehicle in and right back out activity between 10:30-pm and 1am back and forth to campers that were long term stays. Made nighttime hard to sleep in site 3 with vehicles back and forth for hours .

      Ararat River Campground

      No Resort Here

This is not a resort type campground.  It is a place for people to bring old campers to live full time and long term.  The electric and water utilities are original from the 50's and there are constant problems with both.  There is a lot of unrecognized potential because the owners do not reinvest any money into anything for the campground.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

New Owners, making lots of noticeable changes for your enjoyable stay

Looking for a nice place for a camping getaway? We highly recommend checking out the Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. The location itself is beautiful. It is literally on the Deep River and features a hiking trail that runs along the river past the remnants of a historical damn, where a small area of rapids gently swirls around the big rocks spanning the river. There’s also a large lake with a nice grassy expanse for picnics, playing games or just lazing around lakeside. This campground has been around for a while, but it has new owners now and they are breathing some for real new life into the place. They have already made lots of repairs and improvements, and you can see more in progress. There are sites for RVs with all the hook-ups, and great primitive sites for tent camping, several located right on the river. If you don’t have an RV and sleeping on the ground doesn’t spark joy, they have a few small rustic but nicely-appointed cabins. You’ll find two pools, several covered picnic shelters, a playground for the small ones, and several options for older kids and adults to play, like a horseshoe pit and a nice game room. They also have planned activities like movie nights and weiner roasts most evenings to entertain and create community among campers. They are pet friendly and have their own pet mascots on site— a flock of ducks including beautifully colored teals and mallards. We were just there for 2 nights, but I have a good feeling we’ll be visiting there again soon. Definitely worth a visi

      Salthouse Branch Campground

      Had a Blast!

We had a blast here. My kiddo was able to roam freely and safely with other kids. We enjoyed a hike with the dogs, as well as swimming at the beaches.

      Fancy Gap-Blue Ridge Parkway KOA

      Fantastic campground

The campground is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Very quiet, adjoins the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the small community of Fancy Gap is interesting.

    What to do

Disc golf at lakeside parks: Thousand Trails Forest Lake offers a 9-hole disc golf course for campers seeking recreational activities. "There is a nice putt putt course, pool, adults only pool and lounge, family lounge with small arcade games, pool table, and other games, a grill, small shop with ice cream," notes a visitor about the Thousand Trails Forest Lake facilities.

Mountain biking on woodland trails: The rolling terrain provides excellent opportunities for mountain biking enthusiasts. "It is a beautiful venue with rolling grassy hills and acres of woods with hiking and mountain biking trails," explains a reviewer about Chantilly Farm RV/Tent Campground, located just across the state line in Virginia.

Canoe on small lakes: Several campgrounds feature small lakes or ponds suitable for paddling. One camper mentioned, "We also rented a canoe and had fun canoeing around the pond/lake" at Forest Lake, making it ideal for water activities without traveling to larger reservoirs.

    What campers like

Private farm experiences: For campers seeking seclusion, farm stays provide a unique alternative to traditional campgrounds. "This is a great relaxing get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! As the owners, we love relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing," notes a review of Ivory Clay Farm, which offers just three RV sites.

Clean, accessible facilities: Many campgrounds prioritize well-maintained bathroom facilities. A visitor to Jones Station RV Park commented on the "Entry combo required for very clean toilet/shower building," adding that the park has "WiFi that actually works!" and no street lights in the campground.

Spacious site layouts: Campers consistently appreciate parks offering adequate space between sites. "Sites were huge with large space between...everything was immaculate," noted a Jones Station visitor, who called it "THE BEST privately operated RV park we have ever experienced!"

    What you should know

Limited dump station availability: Several RV parks near Mayodan lack on-site dump facilities. Both Jones Station RV Park and Black Dog Acres operate without sanitary dump stations, requiring advance planning for longer stays.

Motorcycle-specific camping option: Willville Motorcycle Camp in nearby Meadows of Dan, Virginia offers a specialized camping experience. "This is a motorcycle only campground. Clean facilities, friendly host. Good spread of water spigots and electrical outlets if you need to charge your equipment, although electric isn't available at each spot," explains a reviewer.

No-tent policies at some RV parks: Several rv sites near Mayodan, North Carolina cater exclusively to self-contained RVs. One camper at Greystone RV Park noted it has "ten FHU sites for self contained RVs (no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground considerations: When selecting family-friendly campgrounds, check for playground amenities. "There are 3 parks which kiddo had a great time making friends at," shares a visitor to Cane Creek Campground and RV Park, adding that their bathhouses were "very clean-if a little spidery for me (eek!), and both in pretty convenient locations for everyone."

Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds offering structured activities for children. "We were only there Fri-Sun but there were activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ," reported a family staying at Forest Lake.

Site selection for privacy: For families wanting more seclusion, request specific sites. "Our campsite backed up to a hill, but it was shady and extremely welcomed during the hot days!" noted a camper traveling with a 5-year-old child and puppy at Forest Lake.

    Tips from RVers

Electrical service details: Most camping facilities near Mayodan offer multiple electrical options. A reviewer at Black Dog Acres RV Park described "Super easy pull through sites with convenient hookups," noting they were "clean, easy, & nice" for overnight stays.

Winter camping preparation: RVers planning winter visits should check for freeze protection. One camper mentioned, "We stayed here for one night in December... It also had heated water hose so that was a big bonus," when describing their experience at a nearby RV park.

Big rig accessibility: Many local campgrounds accommodate larger RVs with specific site designs. "Extra wide and extra long pull thru site" and "Extra wide roadways" were highlights mentioned by a Jones Station visitor, who also appreciated the "Level site" with gravel surface.
