Best RV Parks & Resorts near Knotts Island, NC

North Landing Beach Campground offers full hookup RV sites with concrete pads and water views on Knotts Island. The campground features 50-amp electrical service, sewer connections, and water hookups suitable for large motorhomes and travel trailers. Virginia Beach KOA, located approximately 30 miles north, provides 353 RV sites with concrete pads, gravel pull-throughs, and premium sites with custom outdoor furniture. Sites at Virginia Beach RV Resort accommodate big rigs with 50-amp service, though some travelers note tight spacing between units. "Pull through sites are level. Sites are a little closer than I'm used to but it's not bad because of the way the sites are on an angle," according to one visitor.

Several RV parks in the region remain open year-round, including Holiday Trav-L-Park with multiple site types ranging from basic water/electric to premium concrete pad sites with full hookups. Military personnel have access to additional RV camping options at Little Creek MWR RV Park and Sea Mist RV Campground, both offering full hookup sites. Cell service varies throughout the area, with one reviewer noting good T-Mobile coverage at Little Creek but limited AT&T reception. Most campgrounds provide dump stations, propane filling services, and pet-friendly accommodations. A recent review mentioned that "roads are decrepit with major potholes" at one military campground, suggesting travelers should check road conditions when planning visits during rainy seasons.

The Colonies RV and Travel Park

    Historic

Sites: 22 with 1 pull thru 13 full hookups 12 Tent sites

    Electric: 30-50 amp

This is a private campground and you do not have to be military to stay. It really is in a great location.

Beach, dump, firewood, showers, fire pit, store, ice picnic table, playground, toilets, concrete pads, horseshoes, trash. A wonderful spot for a campground on the Historic Fort Monroe. There is no gate to have to pass through to reach the campground. It is located on the far end and on a beautiful flat grassy area with beautiful mature trees. Well maintained and very quiet. While there you must check out the Fort Monroe Casement Museum. You have water on two sides with excellent walking area.

    Virginia Beach KOA

    Great place

Great location, very close to the beach. Staff was pleasant, and accomodations were nice. Some site are a bit close to a busy road, and you get road noise. But if you ask to be in the back of park, it is quiet. Paved roads and have premium sites that are paved, with concrete pads and beautiful furniture, along with cooking fire pit. Other pull thru sites are gravel and grass. Wifi was awesome. Best yet at campsite. Very clean. Would recommend this site

    Holiday Trav-L-Park

Touristy Campground with shuttle to VB oceanfront

This is a convenient place to stay close to the oceanfront if you’re going to be spending time along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. They have lots of amenities as well as putt-put and several pools.

There are various sections and some of the higher priced sites are very well kept but the newer pull through sites in the rear of the park flooded really badly when we were there and we had constant construction from backhoes and building crews, which took away front the relaxation somewhat. The tent sites are fairly nice unless it rains, which means floating on your air mattress. We had a fairly good experience with our travel trailer but it would have been miserable with a tent setup.

We’ve stayed a couple times prior to getting our camper and have had a good experience overall. The comfort stations are fairly clean but some are nice than others and you don’t know until after arrival if the closest ones are the better ones. There’s quite a division between the fancy side with full hookups and the sites with partial hookups.

    OBX Campground

    OBX clean, no frills

Obx Campground is located on Collington Island right behind Kitty Hawk, in the outer banks. It is clean, simple, and convenient to Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. The roadways are gravel and the sites are back in gravel with a picnic table and full hookups. There are 2 ponds and another place with water access on the property. You will need to drive to public access areas to get to the beach on the other side of town. There is a market on the drive to the camp ground that has fresh seafood and fish that is very good! We bought fish to cook while we were there and also more to take home. The sites are large and there is plenty of room for slide outs and the two vehicles you are permitted to have on site. This is a great place for families and not a place you will find a bunch of party animals. We found OBX Campground convenient for visiting the Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills area.

    Holiday Trav-L-Park

Great RV Park near the beach

This is a large modern RV park with all the usual amenities and then some! Full hookups, lots of pull-thru sites, cable tv, multiple pools, multiple camp stores, playgrounds, mini golf, and more. All without leaving the property. Staff even collects trash daily. Sites are a little close, but everyone we met was very friendly. You should know that the park is under the flight path of the local naval base, so expect jet noise, but it wasn’t terrible during our stay. We stayed in the off season, so I think the place is a bit more manicured in the summer. The best perk is a free parking lot right at the beach just for people staying here. It was a short drive and a very nice perk.

Guide to Knotts Island

Camping options near Knotts Island, North Carolina include both mainland and beachside sites across the state border in Virginia. The region sits at an elevation under 10 feet above sea level on the coastal plain, with warm summers averaging 85°F and mild winters rarely dropping below freezing. Most campgrounds experience strong coastal winds, particularly during hurricane season from June through November.

What to do

Kayaking and fishing access: North Landing Beach offers direct water access for anglers and paddlers. "Kayaking is great. Lots of fishing. Ice cream and pizza place open in the evenings," notes Jason B., who appreciated the waterfront recreation options.

Beach activities: Sea Mist RV Campground provides military personnel with oceanfront camping. "Both loops have direct access to an incredible extensive strand of premier beach right on the ocean, with the protection of a natural sand dune barrier," according to Janet R.

Historical exploration: Fort Monroe's The Colonies RV and Travel Park offers unique historical sites. "While there you must check out the Fort Monroe Casement Museum. You have water on two sides with excellent walking area," recommends reviewer N I.

What campers like

Water views: Campers consistently praise the scenic waterfront settings. "It's located on a peninsula with beautiful bay and creek views. You can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset," mentions Jaime W. about The Colonies RV and Travel Park.

Pool amenities: Virginia Beach KOA receives high marks for its aquatic facilities. "Two great pools, tons of activities for the kids even during the week. They have transportation via Trolly bus that comes through frequently throughout the day," writes Marc W.

Peaceful environment: Many campers value the quieter alternatives to busy beach campgrounds. "This place was relaxing and peaceful. The camp hosts Pat and Chet were wonderful and suggested a wonderful local dinner place with views of the tunnel," shares Jaime W. about The Colonies.

What you should know

Military base access requirements: Several rv parks near Knotts Island, North Carolina require military ID. "This campground is a recreational opportunity for active and retired military and their families. This campground is located at the Fort Story Navy Base," explains Janet R. about Military Park Fort Story Cape Henry RV Park.

Cell service variations: Connectivity differs significantly between campgrounds. "We have AT&T and Verizon and both picked up well. The WiFi didn't seem to exist unless you were close to their buildings," reports Christopher T. about Virginia Beach RV Resort.

Site spacing considerations: Many campgrounds feature tightly arranged sites. "Smaller campground with plenty of camping space. This hidden gem has lots to offer," notes Becky W. about The Colonies, contrasting with tighter layouts at other facilities.

Seasonal pricing fluctuations: Winter months offer significant discounts. "Prices come way down during the off season. Much of the facilities are closed but they keep open one of their bathhouses," mentions Leo S. about Virginia Beach KOA.

Tips for camping with families

Entertainment options: North Landing Beach provides extensive family activities. "They have all kinds of recreational things for children and adults. Bands and comedians also happy hour with free drinks. There is also dinners. Volleyball on the beach," reports Nic N.

Beach proximity considerations: Evaluate walking distance to shorelines. "Beach access here is further away, base access is difficult and confusing as many of the gates are closed, and you are further from offbase amenities if you need them," cautions Janet R. about Little Creek RV Park.

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated children's facilities. "The playground was basic, but a playground nonetheless. Pools were nice and never really crowded," notes Christopher T., highlighting important family features.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling conditions: Many RV parks around Knotts Island offer level concrete pads. "Site #4 was level and had full hookups. It was a bit tricky to get our setup into but was accomplished once I determined the best way to maneuver," shares Christopher T. about Virginia Beach RV Resort.

Hookup positioning: Connection placement varies significantly. "The connection boxes are set back pretty far on the sites, so you need longer hoses/cords. We had a long electric cord that reached and had to add a second water hose and second section of sewer hose to connect," advises Eleanor the Airstream R. about Little Creek MWR RV Park.

Base traffic patterns: Military campgrounds experience predictable congestion. "Traffic getting off base starting around 1500-1600 is bad, so plan accordingly," recommends Eleanor the Airstream R., providing practical timing advice for military rv parks near Knotts Island.
