Best Campgrounds near Lyons, NY

The Finger Lakes region surrounding Lyons, New York features a diverse array of camping options within a short drive of town. Established campgrounds like Junius Ponds in Phelps and Cayuga Lake State Park in Seneca Falls provide full-service experiences with modern amenities, while Lake Bluff RV Park in Wolcott caters specifically to recreational vehicles with 50-amp hookups. Waterloo Harbor Campground sits along the canal system, offering both tent and RV sites with boat access. Most facilities in the area operate seasonally from mid-April through October, closing during the winter months. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, numerous lakes, and agricultural land, creating distinct camping environments ranging from waterfront sites to more wooded settings.

Reservations are essential during summer weekends when campgrounds frequently reach capacity, particularly at state parks like Sampson State Park. According to one camper, "The park is so well situated within the Finger Lakes and all the various wine trails—made for a perfect weekend!" Most campgrounds provide water and electric hookups, with dump stations available for RVs. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region, though signal strength varies by carrier. Weather conditions remain pleasant from May through September, with occasional thunderstorms in summer months. Facilities typically include clean bathhouses, picnic areas, and fire rings, with firewood available for purchase at most locations to comply with state regulations prohibiting transport of untreated wood.

Waterfront camping receives consistently high ratings from visitors, with Seneca and Cayuga Lakes being particularly popular destinations. Many campgrounds provide direct lake access for swimming, fishing, and boating. One reviewer noted that "each camp spot has plenty of distance from the next one" at Sampson State Park, which also features "a museum, boat launch, pavilions, and ice cream shop." The proximity to wineries and hiking trails represents another significant draw, with several visitors mentioning gorge trails and waterfalls as highlights of their stays. Family-friendly amenities like playgrounds and swimming areas are common at the larger established campgrounds, while smaller private campgrounds often provide a quieter experience with fewer organized activities but more seclusion.

South Slope Trail Head Dispersed Camp

    Relaxing

There is one campsite near trail. There was more traffic than I expected. Also there is no cell service. No real tires

    Pleasant Lake Campground

    Clean and Quiet

I found this location to have very clean sites with plenty of amenities. Had no issues with the Wi-Fi watching Bills games and play a few video games.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

    Unfortunate

Pros: river is awesome, wading, catching crayfish, cooling off. Staff were consistently friendly. Sites were flat, easy to level travel trailer. Plenty of kid activities, foam party, obstacle course, balloon launch, etc. Large store. Game room. Bathrooms (at least near the playground) were spacious, with toilet, sink, shower. Cons: signs/photo ops were crooked/loose/broken. Planted annual flowers were dead, overgrown with weeds. Miniature golf holes were falling apart. Bounce pad had a hole in it. The sand from around the edge was blowing from that hole into kids eyes, nose, mouth. Bathrooms were dirty; each has a 2-roll toilet paper dispenser; by early evening two stalls had zero TP left. Tent sites had used toilet paper along the tree line where others had used it as a bathroom. Fire pits were old tire rims, which worked, but unable to cook anything on it

    Pinecreek Campground

    Overnight stay

The campground is cute and quiet. Staff is friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the condition of the roads. They are in dire need of grading and new gravel. Be careful!

    Watkins Glen State Park Campground

    Busy campground

Sites are level, some are more spaced apart than others but none seemed crowded as they seemed to all have trees between. Main complaint was most people speed way too fast through the campground. There was poison Ivy around the edges of our site and on the path to the bathroom. Bathroom was fairly modern and clean. It was nice to be able to access the gorge right from the campground.

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time
