Reservations are available at Back-Achers Campsites, a drive-in campground on the shores of Seneca Lake in Himrod, New York, open May 15 through October 15. The campground sits far enough off the highway to keep road noise minimal at night, yet close enough that accessing nearby towns and wineries takes little time. Roughly 40 wineries are within reach of the area. Electric hookups accommodate RVs, and tent sites are set back among the trees with a notable degree of privacy between neighbors.
Sites run large, and even when the campground fills on weekends, the spacing tends to prevent that hemmed-in feeling common at busier lakeside spots. The bathhouse is reported to be newer and consistently clean, and Taylor C. notes "very clean facilities with hot water." Drinking water, picnic tables, and firewood are all available on site. Cell service is present, and the owner lives on the property, which reviewers credit for keeping noise and disturbances in check.
The beach gives campers direct Seneca Lake access. Dogs are welcome, and walking trails around the campground provide easy routes for exercising pets. Campers who want a different setup on the same stretch of lake can look at Sunset On Seneca Campsites or Plum Point Lodge, both within a few miles along the shoreline.
