    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Good Camping inside the Park

The campgrounds are conveniently located inside the Park so easy to get to the amazing falls towards the south as well as the dam in the north. We were in loop 300 which does not allow pets. Decent bathhouses right opposite our site. Our site was a gravel drive with a grassy area containing the picnic table and fire ring. Unfortunately due to rain the day before the grass was extremely muddy which make it hard to get to the fire ring. There was also white a lot of noise from adjacent sites, we could hear everyone's conversations and screaming kids. There was a laundry facility but no dishwashing.

    Good location

Sites are were nice and big but not private at all. I was in site 300, it was like a large lawn with a tree, which was great for shade. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. Not a lot of privacy. Really nice bathrooms nice showers. Amazing being so close to Lake Ontario.

Guide to Alabama

Cabin rental options near Alabama, New York provide year-round accommodations within easy reach of Lake Ontario and several state parks. Western New York's seasonal weather patterns typically offer warm summers (75-85°F) and cold winters with significant snowfall, affecting cabin availability and amenities. Most cabin rentals operate from May through October with limited winter options requiring advance booking.

What to do

Explore state parks: Darien Lakes State Park offers miles of hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and a Frisbee golf course just a short drive from Alabama. "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life," notes Jeremy H. about Darien Lakes State Park.

Visit Niagara Falls: Cabins serve as affordable base camps for visiting the famous waterfall, located about 50 minutes from Alabama. "We stayed at this campground when we went to Niagara falls. It's a small campground but has clean bath houses an a relaxing atmosphere. Not much to do but fish or walk trails but that's how we like it. Nice park to go to after a long day at the falls," says Dawn T. about Darien Lakes.

Enjoy Lake Ontario views: Multiple cabin rental locations provide access to Lake Ontario's shoreline, with sunset viewing spots. A visitor to Golden Hill State Park notes, "It was glorious to sleep to the sound of waves hitting the shore and wake to the panoramic Lake Ontario view. The old lighthouse is a beautiful building, and the grounds in general are super well kept."

What campers like

Family-friendly amenities: Many cabin rentals include access to kids' activities. "Great campground, they have it all, a huge lake to swim in, a salt water pool, fitness center, well stocked store, small restaurant with finger foods. If you camp in a 40ft motor home, travel trailer, 5th wheel, or tent they have a place for everyone," writes Frank N. about Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground.

Clean facilities: Rental properties maintain well-kept bathrooms and showers, important when choosing cabin accommodations. "The showers in the bathrooms were phenomenal - very clean with hot water and a private dressing area next to the shower. Showers were ADA compliant and had shower seats," reports Leah L. from Golden Hill State Park.

Fishing opportunities: Many cabins near Alabama provide direct access to fishing. "There is a lake with non-motor boat rentals, they have a small pub with local brews on tap and a large activity hall. Great staff!" shares Amy T. about Medina Wildwood Lake KOA.

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals have limited operating seasons. "The campground itself is pretty and well kept. Some sites are a little tight, but most people aren't there to camp, they're going to the park or a concert, or both," notes Cory W. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground.

Noise levels vary: Some locations experience higher noise levels, especially during peak times. "I haven't been here in a while but people mostly stay here for one of two reason. Because they don't want to drive home drunk from a concert, or they have 14 loud kids that want to be at the amusement park. Both options come with about 2 hours of sleep," explains Laura Nicole A. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground.

Weather considerations: Cabin renters should prepare for typical western New York weather patterns. "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities. No issues with animals," shares Leah W. about Darien Lakes State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Winter cabin options: Some parks offer cold weather accommodations. A visitor to Darien Lakes notes, "We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities."

Pack entertainment: Some cabins have limited amenities during shoulder seasons. "This isn't the biggest or fanciest place but it's simple and wonderful for a weekend getaway. The sunsets you'll catch on Lake Ontario are some of the best you'll see," mentions Laura Nicole A. about Four Mile Creek State Park.

Book ahead for holiday weekends: Cabin availability becomes extremely limited during peak times. "We camped at Golden Hill over the weekend of July 24-26, 2020. Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground," advises Leah L.

Tips from RVers

Expect limited winter services: Facilities typically reduce services after October. "It was glorious to sleep to the sound of waves hitting the shore and wake to the panoramic Lake Ontario view. The old lighthouse is a beautiful building, and the grounds in general are super well kept," describes Amanda P. about Golden Hill State Park.

Check power availability: Seasonal cabins have varying electrical capabilities. "This campground is great if you're into the theme park. I used to go to kingdom bound and we always stayed at this campground. The bathrooms were always easy to find and clean. The staff is always very nice and helpful," shares Hannah B. about Six Flags Darien Lake.

Consider location to attractions: Some cabin rentals offer better access to regional activities. A visitor to Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA reports, "Nice campground with 2 swimming pools, playgrounds, fishing ponds, jump pad. Friendly staff. Few shaded camp sites. We camp from our motorcycles in a tent & appreciate shade & trees for privacy."
