Best RV Parks & Resorts near Akron, NY

Several RV parks serve the Akron area with a range of facilities for motorhome travelers. Southwoods RV Resort in Byron features 50-amp full hookup sites on gravel pads, operating seasonally from May 1 to October 31. Skyline RV Resort in Darien Center provides both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical connections with water and sewer hookups, remaining open from early May through mid-October. Sites at Niagara Hartland RV Resort include pull-through options suitable for larger vehicles with 50-amp service. Most RV parks in the region accommodate big rigs with dedicated spaces, though site spacing varies considerably between locations. "The sites were level and our site had full hook ups. We were in a pull through site towards the back of the park which is closest area to the freeway with lots of road noise during the day but did quiet down at night."

Campgrounds throughout the region close during winter months, typically shutting down between late October and early May. Dump stations are available at most parks, with some locations offering on-site sanitary service. Pet policies vary by location—most parks permit pets but enforce leash requirements and may have designated pet areas. Cell service fluctuates across the region, with better connectivity typically available at parks closer to Buffalo and Rochester. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, some campgrounds have Wi-Fi that performs adequately for basic needs but becomes unreliable during peak usage hours. Reservation requirements increase during summer weekends and holiday periods. Many parks in the area provide propane fill services on-site or direct travelers to nearby filling stations, and laundry facilities are common amenities at the larger RV resorts.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Simple campground on Lake Ontario

We stayed here because it was near Niagara Falls and had site availability. We stayed at a non-electric campsite (mid-June). There were 4 other campsites occupied in our area. We have a camper van with solar power and fresh water. There is a shower in the non-electric section but it's not heated water. Since it's June, the temperature was only mildly shocking to my senses. However, the rest of the showers in the campground are heated (we checked). There are at least two laundry facilities. I actually exchanged cash for quarters at the front office. The grounds are well maintained. Beware of the resident skunk that walks around. I didn't test the cell signal here but I was able to work remotely and video chat.

    Cinderella Motel & Campsite

Basic, Convenient, VFM (value for money)

This campground is very basic with very close campsites.  The bathhouse and laundry are old but clean.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is very close to Niagara falls and for the money it is the best campground here.  KOA and Branches CGs are nicer but they are also triple the price which for us did not seem worth it.  We were in a back in gravel site that backed up to the motel which may not seem that nice but the electric, water and sewer worked perfectly.  Our 40 foot MH and Toad fit with room to spare.  There were sites that were on the outskirts of the property that backed to the woods which some people may prefer.  Those sites were just as close although there were several that would take big rigs bit don't expect to open your awnings in most sites.   There is a nice grassy area in the center with a small covered pavilion.   There are a few sites on the side/front of Motel.  We were here to visit Niagara Falls so location and a basic campground with full hookups was all we were looking for and this campground fit our needs perfectly.  We would stay here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

    Niagara County Camping Resort

    Niagra County Camping Resort

Arrived late at night to this established site. This is a mixed accommodation campground with established long term residents & short term sites.

Some sites include a table, power access and tire rim for fire-ring. Showers & flushing toilets are near RV sites in back area. Small camp store, swimming pond & fishing pond. Manager, Christine very nice & helpful.

Campground is relatively close to scenic drives along Lake Ontario & Niagra State Park, Niagra Falls.

Guide to Akron

Camping options near Akron, New York range across seasonal operations with most facilities closing between late October and early May due to western New York's harsh winters. The region sits within the Lake Ontario Plain at approximately 600-700 feet elevation, where summer temperatures typically reach 75-85°F with moderate humidity. Several campgrounds in the area feature fishing ponds and recreational amenities that complement the rural agricultural landscape surrounding them.

What to do

Golf access: Several campgrounds provide convenient access to golf facilities, with Hickory Ridge Golf & RV Resort combining both camping and golfing in one location. "This spot is all right, but it's not really the vibe for weekend campers. It's definitely more of a 'locals only' kind of feel as it is a country club and golf resort primarily," notes one visitor.

Theme park adventures: Families visiting the area often camp at Six Flags Darien Lake Campground for easy park access. One camper explains, "This is a large campground. Walking distance to the theme park. Campground fees include admission to the theme park. The sites are very nice and well maintained."

Concerts and events: The Darien Lake concert venue draws many campers who prefer not to drive after shows. "I haven't been here in a while but people mostly stay here for one of two reason. Because they don't want to drive home drunk from a concert, or they have 14 loud kids that want to be at the amusement park," states one candid reviewer.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Visitors to Southwoods RV Resort frequently mention the upkeep of amenities. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice!" writes one satisfied camper.

On-site activities: Many campgrounds offer recreational options directly on the premises. A camper reported, "We stayed at Southwoods while visiting the Rochester, NY area and exploring attractions in the area. The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers and has a variety of different campsites from back-ins to pull-thrus, 50 to 30-amps, and full hook-up to water and electric only."

Affordable theme park packages: Value-conscious visitors appreciate package deals. "Cean well spaced sites, Special deals for the park if you stay in the campground. Campers and cabins to rent," notes one Six Flags Darien Lake visitor.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most RV sites near Akron, New York operate between May and October. Skyline RV Resort runs from May 2 to October 13, with a camper noting: "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out. The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight. The dumping station was free or included."

Train noise: Several campgrounds in the region experience railroad noise. One camper at Six Flags Darien Lake mentions, "Was clean and we'll maintained. There was a train track close to camping."

Varied site spacing: Site dimensions and privacy differ significantly between parks. A Red Rock Ponds visitor reports, "Nice, smaller campground with adequate sites. Appears more for permanent campers."

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Children-focused amenities vary between campgrounds. At Red Rock Ponds RV Resort, one camper observed: "It was kinda close to other campers. Geared toward more seasonal campers. Covid only allows private campgrounds open so this was nice."

Activity scheduling: Family-oriented campgrounds often host planned events. "Family friendly park, lots of activities, park hosts/owners are hands on and awesome," writes a Southwoods RV Resort visitor.

Bathroom facilities: Clean restrooms rank high for family concerns. A recent visitor noted: "Bathrooms were very clean. Quiet campground. Lots of plays areas for kids. Weekend sites would be pretty tight together if they were fully booked. Golf carts not available."

Tips from RVers

Service availability: Some campgrounds provide on-site RV repair services. A visitor to Six Flags Darien Lake shared: "Obviously being connected to Six flags is a fun family stop, but every part of the camping experience is treated with attention to detail and great services. We needed help with our water heater in our own RV and the camp team sent over a mechanic to sort it out within minutes. Free of charge."

Site accuracy: RVers recommend confirming hookup details before arrival. A Skyline camper notes: "The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight. The dumping station was free or included. The employees were very friendly. They have a repair shop on site."

Supply access: Gander RV of Buffalo provides essential supplies for RV travelers. "I found everything I needed to complete my list of needs for my trailer. The prices are good compared to other local dealers and the service is excellent," reports one customer.
