This is one of our favorite Wisconsin state parks. It is quiet and shady, next to the Chippewa River. You can kayak on the river and in-between the islands where the water is very calm and full of lily pads and wildlife. There is a paved bike trail, Old Abe, that connects to the park and is 20 miles long to Chippewa Falls. It's an easy bike ride, a few miles, into Cornell for ice cream at one of 2 shops that have it! One camground loop has electric and bathroom with showers and flush toilets. The other loop has no electric and pit toilets and has many sites next to the water. Campsites are roomy and shaded.
Very nice campground in state forest in northern Wisconsin. NO electricity. Generators allowed from 10 am to 5 pm. There are multiple paved bike trails and groomed hiking trails and other lakes in the area. Woodruff and Minocqua are nearby. The lake is clear, sandy with many areas where you can swim. No electric motors on lake so it is nice for kayaking. All the sites are large and surrounded by trees, shady. Clean showers and bathrooms with water as well as several pit toilets. Dump and clean water available at next campground, Crystal Lake, which is a mile away.
There are MANY other campgrounds in the Northern Highlands state forest but this is the ONLY one with showers available. Cell phone service is minimal with Verizon. We could send and receive texts.
We love this state park. The hiking trails are beautiful especially down in the caverns.
Sugar Creek runs through the park and is great for kayaking or canoeing in the spring. There is a rental place across the street from the park. There is also a lodge and restaurant in the park.
Many of the campsites are in the woods and well-shaded. We stayed on 162 which is in a small circle of campsites. It was quiet and well shaded. There are others that are in full sun in some parts of the campground. The state park website provides good description of the sites and photos. The campground is very popular and weekends need to be booked very early.
We loved this campground! Campsites are well laid out. Electric sites. Water to fill tank and dumpsite. It is a great place to stay if you are visiting the west side of Chicago area.
They have a strict no alcohol policy. The gates closed at sunset and no one is allowed in or out after that. There is no code. It is only open on the weekends. It was quiet except for some traffic noise that filters in from the highway.
This is a Dupage county forest preserve and there is lots of wildlife. Nice bike trails. Small lakes for fishing and kayaking.
Guests over 65 get one FREE weekend to stay there a year even if out of state. Do call their office and reserve a site ahead of time. It does fill up.
This campground is very nice. Well laid out campsites. Man-made lake.
This park is just beautiful! The multiple campgrounds are all good. Many with electric and water. Bathrooms clean. Everything well maintained. Multiple hiking trails to explore on. Very steep and curvy main road through the park. Be ready! But it's worth it!
This is a very nice state park out on the plains. Beautiful bathrooms. Roomy drive thru campsites.
Well run RV park. Everything is maintained well. There is a little traffic noise, but not bothersome. They have laundry, clean bathrooms, books and videos to borrow. When we asked for restaurant recommendations, they had a whole list ready!
Very nice small RV park! Everything is well maintained. Nice bathrooms. Laundry. Lee is very helpful and gave us some good recommendations about what to see and do in Roswell. Beautiful sunsets while we were there!
This is such a scenic place to camp. Mountains, sunrise, sunset, trails. Bathrooms are clean and good showers. Wow! I hope we can come here again.
This is a beautiful campground a few miles south of Deming, NM. The campground hosts were excellent and welcoming. Campsites were laid out well. Beautiful scenery.
Bathrooms and showers were clean and plenty of warm water in showers.
Amenities at this campground were not up to speed when we visited. The laundry facility was not hooked up properly. The one shower room did not have a lock or curtain on the door! It is located in a farming area in a very small town.
This place has possibilities….
There is a cute restaurant in walking distance and a public school is next to the campground.
Everything about this campground was great! Lots of mesquite trees and prickly pears and birds. Campground hosts were friendly and helpful. The bathrooms and showers were clean and had plenty of hot water. There are easy trails and more difficult trails for hiking.
The caverns are definitely worth the tour and the nature center has some interesting exhibits.
This is a beautiful park! If you are reserving a campsite, beware! Ringtail loop does not have electricity or water hookup and it is not that easy to tell this on the reservation system. It is just a dirt parking lot for trailers to sit in. There are amazing hiking trails and the nature in this park is stunning, especially the saguaros. The campground fills up fast so reserve early in the year if you want a site with electricity and water.
This park is not a fancy place with amenities, but it did provide us with a safe place to stay for a week and a half and the price is reasonable. People are friendly there. They do have laundry available for$1 a load! There is also a shower. With full hookups few people use the shower or laundry it seems. The park is near a highway. There is no shade. You can see Mt Lemmon from the park but otherwise there is no scenery. There are restaurants, hardware store in walking distance.
This park is beautiful! Campsites are set in the middle of the desert. You can see the sun rise and set over the Sonoran desert. There are easy and more difficult hikes in the area. The Saguaro National Park is just a few miles away.
There are no showers available in the campground. You can only stay for 1 week at a time.
This county park has good campsites with water and electric in the midst of the desert land. The plant life was abundant and there were many birds and wildlife around.
Usury Mountain is a challenging hike but well worth it. The bathrooms are clean with warm showers.
Phoenix is just a short drive for anything you need or want to do. It is quiet even though the city is nearby.
This is a wonderful state park and campground set in the valley between mountains. There are some good hiking trails and also some man-made ponds that have trails around them. Bathrooms are clean and showers are great with plenty of warm water.
Prescott and Sedona and Jerome are easy to drive to for a day trip. Cottonwood is a cute town with restaurants and shopping.
We would love to camp here again!
We stayed at Lake Pleasant for 2 weeks. Had a beautiful site facing west, beautiful sunsets! Water and electric. This is a large county park in Maricopa county. It has a man-made lake that is fine for boaters, but no beach for swimming. Everything is rocky. There are lots of great trails for hiking in the park. Love the saguaros and teddy bear chollas. There are wild burros in the park.
Our biggest complaint is that the showers are NOT warm enough! They are lukewarm at best and if it is windy a cool wind blows through the building and it is not heated. Most people with RV's use their own showers. We were in the Roadrunner campground. There are several other loops. Some do not have electricity but campers can use generators.
This is a nice campground. The only concern was there was only one shower available, building is in need of an upgrade. The grounds have ruins from the Hopi tribe. Stars are beautiful at night. We also saw lots of burros and horses.
The Petrified Forest and Painted Desert are not far down the road from this park. It is well worth the stop. Beautiful!
Also, be sure to "stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." Cute town and tourist spot.
