Forty miles southeast of Las Vegas, Boulder Beach Campground sits on concrete pads overlooking Lake Mead's shoreline within the national recreation area. The campground divides into two distinct sections: an original area built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939 with mature trees providing shade, and a newer section from the 1960s with more open terrain.
All 154 sites feature level concrete pads, picnic tables, and fire rings, with water spigots distributed throughout the campground. The premium sites—D77, D79, D81, D83, D85, and D87—offer direct lake views and fill up quickly through the reservation system. "Very level, paved site with some shade from the trees," notes Jody J.. Sites are positioned back-to-back, which limits privacy but keeps the campground compact. A dump station serves RV campers, though no hookups are available at individual sites.
The campground provides access to the River Mountains Loop Trail, popular with cycling groups, and connects to Boulder Beach and Special Events Beach areas. However, reaching the actual shoreline requires either a mile-long walk or driving to designated beach access points. Cell coverage from major carriers works reliably throughout the campground, and free WiFi is available. The on-site marina restaurant offers dining options without the drive to Boulder City.
"The restrooms were basic but clean," reports Lee D., though facilities lack soap dispensers and showers. The campground operates year-round at $20 per night, plus the national recreation area entrance fee. Generator use is permitted until 10 PM, and the campground tends to stay busy with both RV and tent campers. Sites closer to the water experience more day-use traffic.
For full hookups and additional amenities, the adjacent Temple Bar offers a different camping experience further along the lake.
