Green Acres at Red Brick Farmhouse

    Awesome, Picturesque Camp Site

Small, secluded camp sites on picturesque lawn surrounding 3story red brick farmhouse near Higginsville, MO. Two tent sites. Two or three small RV sites and one parked RV trailer available as a nightly rental. Bathroom with shower available. Water and electric available. Friendly and helpful hosts reside in the big house. There are places to eat nearby. Fire pit with comfortable chairs in corner of yard. Very pleasant stay. Relaxing for the soul.

Crammed in a tent camping field...

Let's Share COVID and a campfire song. When we booked a tent site in the KOA we didn't expect much but assumed it would work for the night while driving across the USA.  Upon arrival we were a little put off by being stuck with several other tents in a field and noticed we were expected to share our fire ring with the tent next door... this was not ok with us and we left promptly and snagged a nice spot in the nearby Blue Springs Recreation Area. Traveling during summer 2020 has been interesting and to expect strangers to share a fire ring and be crammed very close during a pandemic is not only careless but not fun. UGH

    Happy Acres

Stayed 2 of 3 reserved nights.

PLEASE NOTE THIS REVIEW IS FOR "RV" PARK ONLY. WE DID NOT USE THE EVENT CENTER AND BED & BREAKFAST. We pushed ourselves to stay 2 of our scheduled 3 nights. This is a trailer park with RVs. All hands off for reservations and parking. Stopped in at the office and they could have cared less. Parked us next to someone that yelled at everyone she was on the phone with and although dog had a leash on was loose. We like dogs but this one was not too interested in being friendly. Maybe construction at entrance is complete now but was a mess when we were there. Wifi stunk. So this 1 star is a 0 star.....first one I have ever given.

    Worlds of Fun Village

    Novel Campground in Kansas City

This was an interesting stay at the Worlds of Fun campground. Located on the property there are RV sites and rental cabins. All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. Back-in sites on rows 1 and 3 and pull through sites on row 2.

The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two.

There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs.

Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3.

Security was disappointing, as there was no gate to the campground, nor a gate around it. So our campsite (site 2) that backed up to the road was 10 feet off the public sidewalk. Reviews of this campsite on other websites mentioned some petty theft, so we kept our outdoor compartments locked (nothing was stolen).

    Lake Paradise Resort

    A gem being polished!

We had a fun and relaxing time and loved the woodsy feel to it. We stayed here for a weekend in July 2020 and had a great time!  It is under new ownership and they are working to remodel and renovate all areas. I got to meet one of the owners and one of the owner's kids who works there and they were very nice and very helpful.  In fact, all staff I had contact with were! We had a nice full hookup RV site with a very woodsy feel.  Well shaded, grass and trees, view of water and nice space around us. Gravel site with picnic table and fire ring.  The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler. Roads throughout campground are gravel, not paved, if that makes a difference with kids bringing scooters or bikes.  We drove around to see the rest of the campground and saw lots of sites that I'd like to camp in when we come back. The cabins look nice, too. Waved at people sitting in front of them, but did not see inside them.  I'm looking forward to go here again and excited to see the updates they make over the next year!

Note: Included in your camp fee you get 2 free daily passes per night of camping to the pool and a discounted rate for any other swimmers; so for our family with 4 we had the free passes go to the parents and paid $3 each for the kids to swim & we did this two days.  As long as you have the wrist band on you can come and go all day to the pool.

Cons: quite a bit of poison oak around the fish cleaning area, shade at the pool is at a minimum, my phone (AT&T) could not get service there.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

Great relaxing campground with many activities

Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail. The other lake, Clearfork Lake, was great for fishing for us! We did have a problem with Raccoons, but with our site being on the very edge of the sites I think that may be inevitable.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Quiet, clean and family friendly

Knob Noster State Park is close to Whiteman AFB and towns nearby for amenities. The park is clean and quiet. Weekends often mean a nearly full campground so make sure to reserve ahead! Weekdays there are few campers. The park is well shaded and it includes primitive and electric sites with water pumps within easy access to all sites. There are two sets of campground bathrooms—one is near the front and is brand new (2018); the other bathrooms are half way to the back of the campground. A dump station is at the front of the campground with a pull through drive. Ice, small grocery items and items are all available for purchase from the camp host. You can also rent kayaks either hourly or by the half or full day. There are lots of great trails for hiking, weekend park programs at the campground amphitheater, a playground and basketball courts. There is no WiFi in this park yet but I hear it’s coming soon. This is a great little park!!

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

    Great overnight

Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32’ trailer without having to unhitch. Stayed just one night as we passed through. Looked like it would be a good place to stay for multiple nights.

Clean campground. Nice grounds. Two good fenced dog parks.

Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Cute, Small Quiet

We camped the last weekend in September picking a late reservation where kayaks were available for our first tent test run were our main goals, which the site met. Kayaking was wildly available, due to the small lake and difficult launch, we can see why, but still very enjoyable. Site was very sizable for our tent, as most are suitable for campers. Lots of even ground, with decent distance. Facilities could do with some updates, but there were a number of bathrooms on site, spaced so no site seemed far, including the vault toilet and a lot of people masking up while going into bathrooms as well, which was appreciated. Current host was super nice and helpful to first timers. The tiny market has a number of random items, including a collapsible fork which was the only thing we hadn't overpacked, and wasn't overpriced. Fire pits on our site were adjustable, making grilling food easier to control.

Guide to Warrensburg

Cabin accommodations near Warrensburg, Missouri provide access to the surrounding Ozark Highland terrain characterized by rolling hills, hardwood forests, and nearby lakes. Winter temperatures typically range from 20-40°F while summer months average 70-90°F with moderate humidity. Most cabin rental facilities remain open year-round with peak reservation periods occurring between May and September.

What to do

Fishing at area lakes: Both Knob Noster State Park Campground and Hickory Hollow Resort offer fishing opportunities. As one camper at Knob Noster noted, "Kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail. The other lake, Clearfork Lake, was great for fishing for us!" The lakes stock multiple species including bass, crappie and catfish.

Swimming pools access: Several cabin properties maintain on-site pools for guests. According to a visitor at Cozy Corner RV Park, "Nice park that has flat/level sites with 50/30 full hookups. Salt water pool, play ground, camp store with onsite storage available for campers or boats, this is a great place to be if you want to do some fishing or hunting at Truman Lake." Most pools operate seasonally between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Hiking trail options: Knob Noster State Park maintains several hiking paths suitable for different experience levels. One camper reported, "There are several small lakes and plenty of hiking trails to keep everyone busy. The campground is one of the better ones in the state park system." Trails range from easy 0.3-mile loops to more moderate 3.5-mile routes through wooded areas.

What campers like

Storm shelters for safety: Severe weather protection matters to many visitors. A camper at Cozy Corner RV Park appreciated that it "has a very nice in ground pool along with a storm shelter which gives piece of mind in crazy Missouri weather." Several other properties have also added storm shelters or designated shelter areas in recent years.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention bathroom cleanliness in reviews. At Worlds of Fun Village, a visitor noted, "There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs." Most cabin rentals undergo cleaning between guests.

Kid-friendly amenities: Properties cater to families with various activities. One guest at Last Resort shared, "Located in Warsaw Mo is a great place to camp. THE LAST RESORT. In Warsaw MO. Friendly owner are more than welcoming. Ice cream shop and large pool on site. Great fishing." Seasonal programs often include movie nights, craft activities, and guided nature walks.

What you should know

Seasonal differences: Off-peak months offer different experiences. A visitor at Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA shared, "Stopped here on our way south for spring break. The amusement park was not open yet, so the campground area was relatively quiet and the price for full hookups was not bad." Most cabins offer reduced rates during non-summer months.

Wildlife encounters: Wildlife sightings can be expected. One camper at Knob Noster State Park mentioned, "We did have a problem with Raccoons, but with our site being on the very edge of the sites I think that may be inevitable." Proper food storage in sealed containers helps prevent unwanted animal encounters.

Reservation timing: Advance planning helps secure preferred dates. As noted by a visitor, "Increase in the number of RVers has this place packed so a quick call and reservation to hold the site is recommended." Most properties require deposits ranging from $25-50 to confirm bookings.

Tips for camping with families

Look for cabin rental options with entertainment: Some properties include kid-specific amenities. At Hickory Hollow Resort, a visitor shared, "My kids and stayed in a Cabin and it was nice! They have a pool there, a store, and lots of trees and also have a campfire spot. They also have TV with a good amount of Channels." Many cabins near Warrensburg offer basic cable or DVD players.

Consider cabin location on property: Location within a campground matters for families. At Green Acres at Red Brick Farmhouse, a camper noted, "I would highly recommend this place. The hosts are lovely and accommodating. We came in with our small trailer, two kids and a dog. There was plenty of space for all of us and even a wonderful tire swing for the kids." Request cabins near playgrounds or away from main roads when booking.

Pack for variable weather: Missouri weather can change quickly. One visitor recommended, "We took our 3 canoes on with all the kids and grandkids. The only downer was that the only trash dumpster the campgrounds had and centered in the campground was already full beyond capacity when we checked out on Sunday." Bring layers and rain gear even during summer months.

Tips from RVers

Check site dimensions for larger vehicles: Space considerations matter for RVs. A camper at Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA advised, "Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32' trailer without having to unhitch. Stayed just one night as we passed through." Call ahead to confirm your specific vehicle will fit in cabin parking areas.

Consider utility needs: Hookup access varies between properties. According to one RVer at Cozy Corner RV Park, "All are full hook up I believe. They have what seems to be quite a few full time campers living here. Hard to get through on phone lines to book and no online booking options." Most cabin rentals require separate parking for RVs and may charge additional fees.

Expect variable pad surfaces: Campsite conditions affect comfort. A visitor at Worlds of Fun Village mentioned, "All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. Back-in sites on rows 1 and 3 and pull through sites on row 2." Cabin areas typically have gravel or dirt parking rather than concrete pads.
