    Rutlader Outpost RV Park

    Great Campground

We’re from Kansas City and there are very few options when it comes to Campgrounds. This is by far our favorite and their rates are very reasonable. We enjoyed our stay, staff was very friendly and the park was clean and easy to get in and out of. You’re also very close to Hillsdale State Park, but this location has a tornado shelter 🤣

The park: great store, laid out well, gravel sites. Some are back in but most are pull through. Full hook ups- power/water/sewer.

72 Sites: 30' wide, 60' long and level 24 Sites are pull thru All have 30 & 50 amp service

You are within 40 minutes of southern Overland Park, and within approximately an hour (depending on traffic) to Kansas City.

Amenities: Laundry Storm Shelter Showers Meeting room available for RV Rallies (Must Schedule) Fishing Lake

Cellular: service was good, able to stream video, work, Facebook, etc.

Rates as of April 2020 (from their site):

-DAY RATE: $45.00 -CLUB RATE: $40.00 (Good Sam's, FMCA, AAA, Military) -WEEKLY: $215 -MONTHLY: $575 Back In $700 Pull Through (if not paid by due date, Day Rate will apply.)

    Walnut Grove RV Park

Close to downtown Merriam and KC

My husbands job took us to Merriam Kansas and we needed a place to stay, we made reservations at Walnut Grove. We were surprised to find it in the middle of a neighborhood. The staff were very nice and helped us into our site. The sites were on gravel and very close to each other. Walnut Grove was both short and long term campers. There were no tent sites. We had full hook-ups, cell service, and free wifi. We had a picnic table and fire ring and could purchase firewood at their store.

During our stay I was awakened to a startling noise and couldn't figure it out until I went outside and saw the walnuts falling onto our camper. By the time we left, everything was covered(stained) tarnish brown. The park is in a walnut grove hence its name. They had a dog run which was not fenced but provided some grass for the pups. They had a laundry mat and clean showers with good water pressure. There also was a strange noise coming from the trees and when I asked the office what it was they thought it was locusts. I knew that was not their noise so I had to find what it was. After searching, I found that it was tree frogs 🐸 and it was their call. So if you are there in September listen and you will hear them, they love the walnut trees.

Sunflower Campground — Hillsdale State Park

    Very Clean and Very Relaxing

The Park: We love this park, it’s massive, and really pretty. They have so much to do (listed below). Sunflower Loop is our favorite and has full hookups. There are more primitive loops as well. It is ADA accessible. There was not a tornado shelter as of 2018. This is one thing that should be mandatory given its proximity and being further away from potential shelter. Excellent camping on the lake. Lots of water activities available.

Sites: level, clear, easily accessible. Sunflower loop is widely spaced and plenty of room for larger RVs.

    Cellular: decent cellular signal.

Amenities: Amphitheater Bath House Bicycling Boat Ramp Boating Canoeing Kayaking Campground Host Camping, Equestrian Camping, Improved Site Camping, Primitive Church Comfort Station Dock, Boat Dump Station, Camper Dump Station, Marina Fire Rings Fishing, Park Lake Fuel, Boats Golf Grills Gun Range Hiking Hiking Trail Horseback Riding Hunting Information Booth Jet Skiing Laundry Marina Mountain/Trail Bicycling Park Lake Parking Picnic Area Picnic Shelter Picnic Tables Playground Rentals, Boat, Motorized Rentals, Jet Skis Reservoir Restrooms Shelters Showers Skiing - Water Swimming, Park Lake Telephone Toilet, Pit/Vault Trails, Bicycle Trails, Equestrian Trails, Hiking/Walking, Easy Trails, Mountain Bike Walking Water Access, Park Lake Water Skiing

    Cozy Corner RV Park

    Cozy location south of Clinton

Nice park that has flat/level sites with 50/30 full hookups. Salt water pool, play ground, camp store with onsite storage available for campers or boats, this is a great place to be if you want to do some fishing or hunting at Truman Lake.

Small pond on site and storm shelter. Cell coverage a bit shaky- park has wifi

Increase in the number of RVers has this place packed so a quick call and reservation to hold the site is recommended

    Great owners

    Peculiar Park Place

    Shakedown with old friends

This is the campground to be at if you are looking for a staging area just south of the KC area with full hookups, level sites and amazing owners.

Recently downsized our rig and selected this location for the initial shakedown. Had an easy to access pull through site that had 50/30 amp access, water and sewer. Nice landscaping, plenty of place to walk.

Accepts cask or check for payments, propane sold on site. Short drive from Flying J and grocery store

    Peculiar Park Place

    Great place!

We enjoyed it here, but it snowed so we didn’t explore the trails while we were there. Our internet worked great through Verizon and ATT, we never tried the park WiFi. Clean laundry facilities, pull through site was a little tight, but worked well. If we’re in the KC area again, we’ll definitely stay there. Only drawback, the target audience is a bit older so no playground or park for kids, but plenty of open grassy areas worked too. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. They do propane refill, which was awesome.

    Shady Acres RV Park

Great Park like setting. Very clean and maintained. Great owners

Full hook-ups and a bath/shower house (which doubles as a storm shelter). 2 ponds on the property and a community picnic shelter. 15 RV spots that are graveled with a fire ring and picnic table at each. Close to a small convenient store and fuel station. (1/4 mile to the east) Close to Hillsdale Lake for swimming and boating. Horseshoe pits. Gated community at night (owners give you code if you leave and come back at night) Aaron and Cindy Bien are the owners and are great people!!

Sunflower Campground — Hillsdale State Park

Hillsdale Lake, Paola, IS Sunflower State Park Campground

New campground, so not much shade. But, many trees have planted for the future. Full hookups but no restroom or storm shelter on site. It has some concrete pads which would be nice wheelchair access.

Guide to Garden City

Campsites near Garden City are situated in west-central Missouri, typically at elevations around 800-900 feet above sea level. The area experiences four distinct seasons with hot summers where temperatures can exceed 90°F and cold winters with occasional snow. Most RV parks near Garden City remain open year-round with gravel pads that accommodate larger recreational vehicles.

What to do

Swimming opportunities: At Lake Paradise Resort, visitors can enjoy a large pool with varying depths. "The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler," notes a camper.

Outdoor movies: Lake Paradise Resort offers seasonal entertainment options for guests. "We went to a movie outside there and fireworks for Memorial Day weekend," reports one camper who visited during a holiday celebration.

Biking on gravel roads: Country roads throughout the region provide casual cycling opportunities. At Owl Creek Market and RV Park, the layout works well for this activity. "It appears they are expanding or at least have recently added camping spots, so that's good," mentioned one visitor about the growing facilities.

What campers like

Family activities: Worlds of Fun Village connects directly to amusement parks. "The camp ground pool is huge and fun for the kids on non park days. The campground is all paved and perfect for scooters and bikes for the kids," explains a family who appreciated these amenities.

Quiet atmosphere: Some parks maintain a tranquil setting despite being near highways. "We camped here in September 2020. There are nice spots right by the lakes with big trees for shade," notes a visitor at Lake Paradise Resort who enjoyed the natural setting.

Fishing access: Multiple RV sites near Garden City, Missouri provide water access. "Roads going up higher past us were a little rough but made for great walks with kids. Kids found tons of frogs and snails to play with," shares a visitor who appreciated the natural exploration opportunities.

What you should know

Cell service varies: Connectivity can be inconsistent in rural areas. At Campus RV Park, one camper reported, "Wifi access point right here. 66m down, 24m up. It was so good (and the park is full) I did not bother testing my mobile plans."

Train noise: Several campgrounds experience railway disturbances. "Only issue was trains blowing their horns during the night," mentions one Campus RV Park visitor, while another noted, "occasional train but not often enough to be a nuisance."

Weather considerations: Extreme weather events can occur in Missouri. "The park is nice, has a very nice in ground pool along with a storm shelter which gives piece of mind in crazy Missouri weather," reports a visitor at Cozy Corner RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Concrete pads for kids' activities: Walnut Grove RV Park provides solid surfaces for recreation. "It's clean. It's right by several major highways and is very centrally located. Tons to do nearby if you're not from the area; In all directions from where this is," mentions a visitor who appreciated the convenient location.

Shade availability: Look for sites with tree coverage during summer months. "Shade seems to be scarce at a lot of the sites," notes one camper at Cozy Corner RV Park, suggesting reservations for shaded spots when possible.

Budget-friendly options: Some smaller parks offer significant savings. At Mayview RV Park, visitors find affordable rates. "Can't beat $20 a night for full hookup. Small park right next to it that the kids enjoyed," reports a satisfied guest.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Many sites require adjustment for comfortable parking. "We stayed in spot 11. It was closest to the highway, so that might bother people but we barely noticed the cars this weekend," notes a visitor at Country Gardens RV Park who found a workable location despite its proximity to traffic.

Reservation timing: Peak season demand affects availability. "We arrived late at night, 9 pm on a Friday, and there was still room for us without a reservation," shares a camper at Owl Creek Market and RV Park, though this experience may vary by season.

Site selection strategy: When choosing a spot at Worlds of Fun Village, "Pay more for the pull through you'll have tons of parking even if your rig is big. Our rig is 44 ft and we parked two 2500's on the pad no problem," advises an experienced RVer.
