The perfect spot for a romantic getaway for a couple looking for a lakeside retreat and a scenic walking trail through the pasture and woods. Enjoy the sunrise over the lake, shop in Tupelo or see Elvis' birthplace during the day, and enjoy a late evening walk around the property. It's the best decision you could make for your next trip!

Or, the best family trip you have every planned. See the look on your child's face when they catch a monster bass! Go with them to pet the horses, talk to the chickens, or hold the bunny rabbit. Moon Lake Retreat consists of 77 acres of woods, water, and pastureland. The lake is fully stocked with trophy bass, panfish, and catfish. If you walk on the south end of the property, you will see geese, cranes, and wood ducks. In the spring, you might even see a turkey strut!

    It's the perfect family getaway.

    Not a fan

This campground is huge with tons of stuff to do for families and large groups. There are lakes, trails, riding trails, swimming pool, party house, cabins to rent just to name a few. RV sites are mostly long term and very full. If you are looking for just an overnight, my advice is to keep looking. Otherwise have a great week long stay at this campground.

    Red Bay Acres RV Resort

Typical for an RV resort, but is new and very nice

As most in Red Bay, we were here to have work done on our Tiffin RV.  This is typical for an RV resort with open and reasonably close spaces, but is new and very nice and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They provide Allegro Club members a 5% discount. We were in site 47. AT&T had 2 bars and 4.3 MB/s w/o a booster, 3 bars and 10.5 MB/s with it. Overall WiFi was“ok” with data rates from 0.2 MB/s up to 0.8 MB/s, as the resort was full. Satellite coverage was good and we had visibility to all 3 DISH west satellites, so we didn’t try OTA channels.

    Tombigbee State Park Campground

    Remote & Serene

This state park is definitely “off the beaten path” — but if you’re looking for a quiet location, with few spaces for additional RV’s; this may be for you. (In total, there may be 18.. but they were not all occupied during our visit.) RV spacing is not bad.. most with full hookups.

The green space; natural habitat and night sounds get high marks from us.

Apple “Maps” took us on an interesting way to get to the park from the interstate.. we were concerned about low hanging tree limbs with our rig; but everything turned out ok.

If you like to jog; this is a great space for it. And, if you like disc golf, there’s an entire course.

    We will be back.

    Tombigbee State Park Campground

    Pleasantly surprised!!

We have camped at several MS state parks near Memphis (Tishomingo, Wall Doxey) and have left feeling like MS didn’t have a lot to offer, but Tombigbee State Park is great. There is a video included in the post which includes the entire campground area. I hope you find it helpful. Additionally, here is a basic overview of pros and cons:

    Pros:

    1. All sites close to the bathhouse
    2. Most sites with full hook up including sewer and 30/50 amp plugs. (see pics)
    3. Multiple updated playgrounds
    4. Very affordable. $24 a night for a full hook up site.
    5. Very walkable. Small campground with access to amenities by foot.
    6. Disc golf course is very fun. It is has an interesting layout in the woods so it is much like a hike.
    7. The park is near Tupelo, MS and there is a Dollar General right at the entrance to the park.
    8. If you are primitive camping, the tent camping area is outstanding. (see pic) There are picnic tables, elevated tent platforms, places for hammocks, a porch swing and bench around a raised fire pit. If you are primitive camping, it is a great place.
    9. There are several docks for fishing and there were signs for the option of boating with a trolling motor, but no one was boating while we were there.
    10. The park office was not open while we were here, but it did look updated
    11. Great for young kids because the campground is small with a flat loop that is easy for bike riding, skating, or scooters. It is easy to see the kids from your campsite and not worry about them getting lost
    12. frequent monitoring by the park rangers. Appears that this park is very well taken care of.

    Cons:

    1. Absolutely no shade on the playground.
    2. Inside loop spots are mostly close together. very little privacy.
    3. We were not able to view the inside of the bathhouse.
    4. only 20 sites and only 4 tent camping areas and were without water or electric.
    5. No SP swag so no stickers, patches, shirts, etc.

This is an A+ for the price, amenities and location to our home base of Memphis. We will definitely be back.

    Piney Grove

    Peaceful and secluded

Great pad sites for RV Trailer, very private well laid out the restrooms are very clean. Reasonable cost and if you have an America the Beautiful card site is 50% off. Very little Verizon Signal if any at times. Really out of the way about 30 minutes from NTP and about 40 minutes from Tupelo.

    Trace State Park Campground

    Family friendly, single mom approved.

Camped for two weeks in mid fall, October 2020. Full hookups, clean bath house. Family friendly. It is dated though. Play area available, small and quant. Roads are drivable of course but need to be funded, come on Mississippi and step up.. 15-20 minutes from a supercenter on West Main Street in Tupelo. Tupelo is lovely and where we actually live. This is the nearest campground my children 13, 10, and 4 stay at. The 4yo loves is, hiking and bike riding is what the older kids do. Nice lake for fishing, no swimming or wake.

Site we stayed at was level, and fully shaded.

    Nice camp with hook ups

Spent one night here. Well filled campground on a Saturday night. Enough space to navigate an RV. Spots are fairly close to one another, but not so close as to be bothersome. Electric and water hook up included. Lady restrooms couldn’t be locked.

Great proximity to the water and tons of fireflies at night. Enjoyed our time here very much!

    Absolutely beautiful !

Small well maintained park . Swim area in the lake has a sandy bottom, and plenty of fishing. All sites have a good view of the lake and they are spaced out so you are not too close to each other. There is a great little Baptist church 1 mile from the park and the best Seafood buffet 10 miles north on Hwy 15 at Seafood Junction in Algoma. Your also 20 miles from Tupelo which has plenty of shopping.

    Howard Stafford Park Campground

    Small tidy county park

With less than 20 sites this is a small comfortable campground with full hookups. 30 minutes to Tupelo or Oxford, this place splits them down the middle. The site is a level concrete pad with 50/30 amp, water and sewer. The campground is next to a big county park with a playground, boat ramp and fishing docks. Nice walking paths along the lakes edge provides a great place for a view of the sunset. The camp manger is a nice as could be and reached out after I left to return something I left behind. A great small park easy to get to.

    Tishomingo State Park Campground

The Diamond of Mississippi State Parks

We've camped  to Tishomingo State at least 3 times in the last 6 months. It's the first site we visited after purchasing our Wildwood Travel Trailer. Sites are level and most are easy to back the trailer into. No full hookups but all the sites have electricity and water. Plenty of trees and amazing views from all the site. Cellphone coverage is not good here for Verizon or AT&T. Better at front of camp.

I can't state enough how much there is to do in Tishomingo! Plenty of trails that would satisfy an Ultramarathoner. A lake for fishing (honestly never seen anyone catch a fish 🐟) and canoeing. Tishomingo has disc golf, large pavilions, and historic sites to visit.

Overall it's always clean when we've been there but there is quite a bit of age on the campsite. Roads are pretty rough in areas as well.

Apparently the main lake has been drained for now. The roads to and through the campground are a bit rough, so you may have to drIve slow. The campsites are paved and leveled. Bathhouse is clean. Full hookups at our site. Overall this was a nice campground.

Nice and quiet (if you're not staying on the Equine/ATV loop)

The road leading to the park could be improved a bit but it wasn't too bad. The park was nice and clean and the loop we stayed on was kept up pretty well. Sites were nice and level and it's hard to beat full hookups for the price!

The bathrooms were obviously older but still kept clean.

The lake had been drained at some point for repairs and it's still very low. There's not a whole lot to do in the park unless you bring horses or an ATV. Great place for a nice quiet getaway.

The neat thing is there's actually a special camping loop just for those that do have horses and ATVs, and it keeps the noise away from everyone else.

There's not a ton to do in nearby Tupelo but we did have a nice dinner at Harvey's, The zoo seemed rather expensive for its size.

Picturesque lakeside sites with full hook up

State park campground with full hookups in the woods on the lakeshore. Park is just off the Natchez Trace. Sites are adequately spaced and sorta level and paved. Beautiful sunsets picturesque tree lined lake. Deer Run bath house is showing its age, but Eagle Ridge’s is much newer, and it includes a coin laundry and a party room. Park roads are in serious need of repair

Beautiful with gorgeous trails and lots to do

Stayed for one night in an RV. Single female traveler with one dog. We hiked all the trails and they were well manicured and followed a frisbee golf course. They have full hookups and back in spots. I went in August and there were many vacancies. I stayed as a stop between destinations but could’ve easily made a trip out of the park itself. There were picnic tables, lots of trees, paved roads. I made reservations through reserve america. There was a camp host to answer questions .

    Our favorite campsite

We love this campsite, nestled away in the backwoods relatively easy to get to. We go here all the time, the rangers are always nice and constantly watching/riding around making sure there is no one causing trouble. New campsites with full hookups are coming soon but even the older ones are nice, just no sewer. And most of the older sites are on the water

    Davis Lake Campground

    Easy rv camping

We took our 23 foot forest river TT on its maiden voyage here in mid June. It was easy to navigate even though it was dark. Nice level site. There is 30 and 50 amp electric and good water pressure.

We stayed in site 18 by the water, most lakeside sites are about 20 feet from shore, and are mostly grass besides the driveway and tent pad. While we loved the campground we probably wouldn’t go back to this site. There were 2 knockdown trees in front of the site, which made fishing hard. There was also a beehive in the tree close to the fire pit.

The sites away from the water looked to be uneven and on a slope so beware if you take an rv.

There is a swimming beach, a pier, and plenty of place to tie up a boat. We plan to return and explore some more!
