Jeff Busby Campground at milepost 193.1, midway on the Parkway, includes an 18-site campground, picnic tables, restrooms, trails, exhibits and an overlook atop Little Mountain. Campground sites are on a first come first served basis, no reservations. Pull-through and back-in sites are available. Campgrounds are typically busiest during the spring and fall, especially during holiday weekends. There is no fee for camping. There is a 14 day stay limit.

An accessible walking trail around the lake is available for a leisurely stroll, as well as a moderate skill level, 3-mile trail, that takes off from the campground. The campground is situated between smaller Cabin Lake and larger, 100-acre Choctaw Lake. It is near the Natchez Trace Parkway, Noxubee Wildlife Refuge and French Camp, all popular destinations in the area.

The campground is located 5 miles south of the town of Ackerman, 11 miles northwest of Louisville and 20 miles southwest of Starkville. The Noxubee Hills hiking and biking trailhead is located at the Choctaw Lake Recreation area as well. The 26-mile trail has vault toilets at each end and is rated moderate-to-experienced, for biking and hiking. The Choctaw Lake recreation area is also within 20 miles of Mississippi State University. Athletic, cultural and scholastic events abound there.

This site is a very popular one night stay about mid-point on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The way the campground is constructed makes this a unique place to stay.
The campsites are very close together causing lots of social interactions. That's the best and worst thing about the campground.
The park service provides nice bathrooms, garbage cans throughput the campground, picnic tables and multiple pullouts.
The park also has a paved road and hiking trail to a viewpoint. The road is less than a mile and the trail is over a mile and has some good elevation changes.
We enjoyed the atmosphere of frequent conversations with other campers. Some kept to themselves...we just waived and smiled.

TravelerPaved pull through sites are first come first serve. They seem to over lap and lots of folk share the sites. So you may need to back up to get out, even if it is pull through.

It is a unique place just north of a dam ( low head dam ) that has another park and boat ramp for fishermen and a very friendly family owned bait store between the parks Tripp family store ! Non ethanol gas 6am to 6 pm grill is open ,

This is a great place to dump your tanks. Only one problem and we expect it to be resolved soon. The charge is $5.00 but there is no one to pay! The sign claims you can pay in the park, the dump is outside the park, at the entrance or exit. Afterwards we continued to “in the park” to pay with our 53’ rig with car in tow. We looked for a place to pay we gave up and had to try to turn around running over the curb with Motorhome and car we thought we should just mail the fee. A BOX AT THE DUMP STATION SEAM TO BE A SIMPLE FIX.

TravelerThe host was very nice and accommodating. We was able to pull in at 6pm on a Friday night. There's showers, bathrooms, a pool and laundry room. The area is shaded with big beautiful trees and a decent sized pond. Besides the showers needing a fresh coat of paint, I'd definitely stay here again! We felt safe.

Some sites are shady, some sunny, others limited shade. Campground is part of Ross Barnett Reservoir. Paved sites with grass. Some picnic tables, some grills. Nice bathrooms with 4 shower stalls, all with bench and hooks for dry goods. Cities for shopping 10 miles away.
GuideThis campground was amazing. Our site was right off the lake. The scenery was beautiful, it was quiet, the sites are pretty spread out. Camp sites 3-12 is where you want to be. There is a playground for kids, a boat dock if you have one, or you can just fish right off your site. The camp host was a very helpful and sweet man. We loved this campground and will definitely be back.
TravelerSites 5 and 8 are our favorite. Really, any site on the small lake is great. Those are the smaller number spots. Almost always one available. Large hands in the smaller lake. I haven't even had a bite in the larger lake. This is our local campground and we go a few times a year. No WiFi and very little cell signal, as camping should be. We love it.

Few of the 15 sites here are level side-to-side. We had to get creative in our site #4 as when parked on the asphalt pad we did not have enough leveling equipment so had to straddle pad with door side on the gravel.

What a gorgeous farm, and what a marvelous experience! When we first arrived, we thought we would have to hike down to camp. Nope! Brian met us at the gate, and led us down a perfectly manicured field so that we could park right next to our tent spot!
He showered us with provisions grown on his farm, including oodles of chanterelles and a couple bulbs of Creole Ajo Rojo from his passion project. We enjoyed a couple hours kayaking on the big pond/little lake with some ducks. We ended up getting caught in a surprise rain storm while floating, but no worries! We were able to make it back and throw up a tarp in no time. There are lots of primo spots to set up your tent, but ours fit perfectly between the two trees our tarp was strung between.
Brian really thought of everything when it comes to this camp! He provided us with covered firewood- including heat pine, which burned like a match and made building a fire after the rainstorm a breeze. We loved having enough chairs to set up both in front of the water and in front of the fire, so we didn't have to drag them back and forth.
Oh, what luxury it is to have a running toilet and a hot shower while camping! Both structures are incredibly solid and private, and made us feel human again after a couple weeks camping primitively.
As for phone service, mine was in and out. This is rural Mississippi, after all. But when I did have service, Brian was incredibly attentive when I needed to reach him!

First, I'm not sure why there aren't 100 reviews here. This campground is on the reservoir, super close to Jackson/Madison/Ridgeland, but still has all the camp amenities that make camping fun.
This campground has two sections - long term and camping. Long term is more like an RV park, but it is nicely separated from the short-term campground which is truly water front.
This campground also has a nice Marina/Camp Store (and coming restaurant), as well as a nice pool and bathhouse for short-term campers.
Also - as this is a marina as well, there is a full-service marina, boat ramps, and parking slips if you need them!
Altogether, would definitely stay here if coming through Jackson, worth the trip.

GuideThe NPS should absolutely charge a fee for the level amenities. This campground is optimized for RVs. There are pull thru spurs with multiple campsites sites but the tables have been moved and monopolized by RVers…including ones with tent pads. Generators running at 3:00 am. On the plus side, heated bathrooms were absolutely clean. Water fountains are distributed through the campground but one spigot to fill a jug. Good access to Little Mountain Trail. There were six empty sites made unusable by RVs parking in between them. Maybe when a camp host is onsite they will clean this up.

I did not end up staying here, but wanted to check it out to see if it was worth staying in the future. The bathrooms were very old and could have used an upgrade. There is a very nice nature trail here for walking and it is the highest point in Mississippi with wonderful views!

TravelerThis Natchez Trace Parkway free campground offers oddly placed paved parking areas, grills, tall fire rings, and picnic tables (most appeared in disrepair). Bathrooms were clean however older and not heated...and no hot water or soap. The parking is pull through but not clearly defined. Grills and tables were randomly placed. The park is rolling hills and drop offs at the curb side of some sites. No electric or water hook ups but there is a single outside faucet at the bathroom for potable water. Large shade trees made for minimal solar power. Honestly I had an eery unsure feeling during my 2 night stay. It appeared like mostly men were staying there and was just an odd placement of sites in general. I suppose it was the undefined site borders. I stayed in a pull through that was the nearest to the restroom. Had I not watched a YouTube video by 2tiredteachers when researching my trip, I would have been very confused on where the site were to even park at. But the highlight was Little Mountain!!
