Not busy

This place rarely gets busy. Nice sites with great views of Avery lake. Clean privy, cold water. Quiet. Alot of state forest roads to explore around here

The dog beach is so much better than expected

The campsites themselves are sadly devoid of much shade, and only a few even have a water view.  But the dog beach, a bit of a walk down the trail towards the lighthouse, surely exceeded our expectations.  Most places designate barely usable waterfront areas to dog beach. At first glance, the dog…

  • Our dogs don't even normally like to swim, but loved the dog beach, with it's warm shallow calm waters.

A great pet-friendly getaway

We rented their pet-friendly cabin.  It consists of a single room, two bunk beds, a table mounted to the wall, two chairs, a mini fridge, a microwave, coffee pot, a wall heater and a wall-mounted fan.  Nothing fancy, but serviceable.  There's a site with a picnic table, grill, and fire pit,…

  • Paved trail that leads to nature trail
  • Day Use Area Beach (not at campground, but in park)
  • Dogs flopped after a hike, on the pet-friendly cabin bunk

Love this place!

Great, quiet, cozy place to take kids or anyone for that matter. Right on the river and clean, flat lots.

Awesome secluded Park!

Beautiful little park, secluded and quiet. Every backcountry site has beach access which would be incredible in the summer. We went in early spring, I would recommend sites 1-3 for that time of year because they are protected from the wind. We stayed at site 4 which is the most secluded but also…

Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50)…

Nice big sites, not far from the Ausable River.

Stayed there last October, it was quiet and the campsites were large. There are a couple of ADA sites as well. No electric or water hook ups. The one thing is the water in the Lake is heavily contaminated with PFAS. There are warnings to not touch the foam that occurs on the shoreline of the lake.…

Beautiful

Beautiful spots, nicely spaced, right on the water. Ranger stopped in to say hey each day. I plan on going back before it gets too busy.

On the AuSable River

Lots of things to do in this area! The large campground is crowded in summer months and you have to buy tokens to take a shower, but the views and access to the River are spectacular.

Beautiful !

Lovely views of the lake! Busy, but clean, friendly and quiet. Hiking trails and a playground for the kids.

Off the beaten path

Great sites close to river. Busy at peak times... would be a great spot to consider for an overnight canoe camp trip.

Perfect Early Fall Camping

Camped here in early fall. The area around here is beautiful with lots of sights and trails. This park has a wide variety of individuals and many long term residents but the staff were pretty friendly and the lake is beautiful (especially in the early morning).

Incredible Fall Camping

Came up here to sneak away on a warm weekend in November as this is one of the few State Park campgrounds open year round. We were really impressed.

The lake is crystal clear and has beautiful turquoise waters. We were able to take the canoe out and were the only ones on the water that afternoon.…

Spacious campsites, well-maintained campground.

We spent three nights at Canoe Harbor in mid-September 2020 and thought it was wonderful. Campsites were spacious and had nice stands of trees in between to provide privacy. Fire rings had a great design. Vault toilets were kept clean and stocked. Paths from campsites connect to the Au Sable and…
