Cherry Hill Park in College Park provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads with paver patios. Greenbelt Park Campground offers RV sites without electric hookups but includes water and sewer connections, though sites may not accommodate larger rigs. "We stayed in a level pull-thru site with picnic table on a paver patio, iron table and chairs, clean gravel surface, grill, and fire pit," noted one visitor about Cherry Hill Park. Camp Meade RV Park in Laurel features full hookup sites with 50-amp service and accommodates big rigs, while Prince William Forest RV Campground provides water and electric hookups but no sewer at individual sites.

RV campgrounds near Adelphi range from full-service parks with 50-amp hookups and on-site propane to more basic sites suited for smaller rigs. Most RV parks near Adelphi require reservations, particularly during peak fall and summer seasons. Dump stations are available at Cherry Hill, Greenbelt, and Prince William Forest parks, though some have limited hours. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with Cherry Hill reporting strong coverage while more wooded areas like Greenbelt may have spotty reception. According to a review, "Some sites do not have picnic tables placed as well as they could be" at Oak Ridge Campground. Pet policies differ between parks—most allow pets with standard leash requirements, though some charge additional fees. Several parks offer propane refill services on-site, and many provide laundry facilities, though availability and condition of machines can be inconsistent. Checking reservation availability in advance is especially important for RV campsites near Adelphi during summer weekends, when full-hookup sites at popular parks fill quickly.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

      Lake Fairfax Campground

Decent campground in the middle of a urban area

Spent two nights while we saw the Avett Brothers play at Wolf Trap. Nice flat site with power. Campground was quiet and clean. The only negative is communication and signage. It took us a couple wrong turns to find our site and when we came back, after the concert around 11, the entrance gate was closed and we had to sneak in through the exit gate. Asked the next day and they said that is what campers do to access the park after 11pm.

      Gambrill State Park Campground

      Great Camp Spot

This is a great camping spot. The sites aren’t too close together and the hosts are very friendly. The only reason I gave it four stars is because we are near a highway so you can hear cars throughout the night. But the crickets make up for it by being as loud as possible. With the fees, it cost $25 for a non-electric site and with access to showers after a long trek I was happy to pay.

      Redemption Springs

      Pleasant Stay and Hosts

We stayed at Redemption Springs to get relatively close to Baltimore without bringing our 30ft travel trailer into the city. Seth and the other gentlemen I spoke with were all extremely accommodating. Enjoyed learning about their approach to restorative farming and purchasing a variety of treats at the farm store. Beef, pork, chicken, seasonings, baked goods, and more. We booked on Hipcamp and recommend following his driving instructions. Our rig fit fine by tuhe main barn and they kept an eye on us going in and out to make sure we didn't have issues making any of the turns. Lots of farm life!

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

    Guide to Adelphi

Several campgrounds near Adelphi, Maryland offer services from April through October, though select locations remain open year-round. Winter campers should note that water systems at some parks are winterized from November through March. The region receives approximately 43 inches of rainfall annually, creating lush wooded camping areas within 30 miles of Washington DC. Most campgrounds in this area sit at elevations between 200-500 feet above sea level, providing moderate temperatures even during summer months.

    What to do

Hiking trails access: Greenbelt Park Campground provides multiple hiking options directly from campsites. "There is plenty of space between camp site clusters. The park itself is safe, quiet, permitting some nice treks through the woods," notes one visitor to Greenbelt Park Campground.

Water activities: Bull Run Regional Park combines camping with seasonal water recreation. "They had a campfire complete with s'mores followed by hayrides. Great family friendly campground," writes a reviewer of Bull Run Regional Park, which also features a water park open during summer months.

Washington DC access: Many campers use area campgrounds as base camps for exploring Washington DC. One visitor to Greenbelt Park noted, "The other great thing about it that you can spend entire days at the always-free Smithsonian museums and still fall asleep in the woods. Can't beat the close proximity to DC."

    What campers like

Metro accessibility: The proximity to public transportation ranks high among camper preferences. "Take the METRO if you are going into the District. There are two stations very close to camp. Rides vary depending on how far you are going but on average I spent about $10 per day on METRO versus $20-$40 on parking in the district area," explains a Greenbelt Park Campground visitor.

Diverse site options: Lake Fairfax Campground provides varied camping spots. "This campground is nice for a quick weekend and does have pretty trails next to the campground. The sites are largely in more of a meadow and not many are very wooded," reports one camper at Lake Fairfax Campground.

Shaded campsites: Many RV parks near Adelphi feature tree cover for summer camping. A visitor to Bull Run Regional Park observed, "The sites are all pull-through off the roads through the campground. So your camper faces the woods and you feel like you're all alone."

    What you should know

Reservations required: Most campgrounds in the area require advance booking through recreation.gov or campground-specific systems. One camper at Cherry Hill Park mentioned, "Price is a little steep, but with all the amenities you get, it is well worth it."

Noise considerations: Train noise affects some campgrounds, particularly those along rail lines. A Harpers Ferry Campground visitor warned, "The proximity to the tracks means that if the sound doesn't wake you up, the rumbling ground will. Every hour through the night."

Bathroom facilities: Quality varies widely between campgrounds. At Harpers Ferry Campground, one camper reported issues: "The bathroom trailer near the campsites was extremely smelly, with many of the 4 toilets clogged." Meanwhile, Bull Run campers praise their facilities: "Bath houses are clean and well maintained."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. A visitor to Cherry Hill Park shared, "Just awesome! Great sites. So many other things in the park. Splash pad, paved roads for scootering."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Wildlife sightings provide educational experiences. At Lake Fairfax, "The staff and campers were great and we even got to see the cub scouts doing a relay course," reported one visitor.

Budget-friendly options: Greenbelt Park provides affordable camping close to attractions. "It is not free but very reasonable considering the area," noted one visitor, with sites typically priced around $20 per night compared to $45-60 at private campgrounds.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Many RV campers report challenges with uneven sites. At Fort Belvoir Travel and RV Camp, a visitor noted, "Our site wasn't fully level, so bring plenty of leveling blocks."

Full hookup availability: Options for complete hookups are limited but available. A Camp Meade RV Park visitor reported, "Nice clean restrooms and showers. Friendly hostess and we had a nice shady spot, what was great with a heat of 94F."

Metro parking considerations: RVers visiting DC should note specific parking options. "We packed up and drove to the Greenbelt station about 5 miles away, parked there for the day, and took the green line into town. The lot there is huge and open and free on weekends," explained a Greenbelt Park camper.
