Cherry Hill Park in College Park provides 50-amp full hookup RV sites with paved pull-through pads and patio areas. The campground features level gravel sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Prince William Forest RV Campground offers water and electric hookups with pull-through sites suitable for larger rigs, though some trees may need trimming along roads. Fort Belvoir Travel and RV Camp accommodates big rigs with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. Greenbelt Park Campground has limited RV facilities with no electric hookups but does offer water and dump station access. "Our site was level and the full hookups all worked fine. Beside our gravel site, there was a small brick patio with cafe table and chairs in addition to the picnic table, fire ring, and grill."

Several RV parks in the region remain open year-round, including Camp Meade RV Park and Cherry Hill Park, while others like Lake Fairfax Campground operate seasonally from March through September. Most campgrounds within 30 miles of Hyattsville require reservations, particularly during peak summer and fall seasons. Cell service varies considerably between locations, with Cherry Hill Park offering reliable connectivity while more wooded areas like Prince William Forest provide limited reception. Dump stations are available at most parks, though some older facilities may have awkward positioning. One camper noted that at Ramblin Pines "the water hook-up is in a pit so it doesn't freeze so look under the cover. It can be a bit difficult to reach and you have to get on the ground to hook-up."

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

      Lake Fairfax Campground

Decent campground in the middle of a urban area

Spent two nights while we saw the Avett Brothers play at Wolf Trap. Nice flat site with power. Campground was quiet and clean. The only negative is communication and signage. It took us a couple wrong turns to find our site and when we came back, after the concert around 11, the entrance gate was closed and we had to sneak in through the exit gate. Asked the next day and they said that is what campers do to access the park after 11pm.

      Stunning veiws

      Gambrill State Park Campground

      Great Camp Spot

This is a great camping spot. The sites aren’t too close together and the hosts are very friendly. The only reason I gave it four stars is because we are near a highway so you can hear cars throughout the night. But the crickets make up for it by being as loud as possible. With the fees, it cost $25 for a non-electric site and with access to showers after a long trek I was happy to pay.

      Redemption Springs

      Pleasant Stay and Hosts

We stayed at Redemption Springs to get relatively close to Baltimore without bringing our 30ft travel trailer into the city. Seth and the other gentlemen I spoke with were all extremely accommodating. Enjoyed learning about their approach to restorative farming and purchasing a variety of treats at the farm store. Beef, pork, chicken, seasonings, baked goods, and more. We booked on Hipcamp and recommend following his driving instructions. Our rig fit fine by tuhe main barn and they kept an eye on us going in and out to make sure we didn't have issues making any of the turns. Lots of farm life!

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

    Guide to Hyattsville

Campgrounds near Hyattsville, Maryland offer diverse accommodations from basic tent sites to full-service RV parks, with most being within a 30-45 minute drive. The region features a blend of urban and natural settings, with elevations ranging from 100-300 feet above sea level across the Piedmont-Coastal Plain transition zone. Weather varies significantly with hot, humid summers and mild springs and falls creating distinct camping seasons.

    What to do

Water activities on the Potomac River: Brunswick Family Campground provides direct river access. "The river is beautifully clean clear and cool. There wasn't much late night going on it seemed all the campers for the most part we're turned in by 11," notes Brian S. The campground includes a boat ramp and dock for fishing.

Historical exploration in Harpers Ferry: Harpers Ferry Campground serves as a base camp for historical sightseeing. "Downtown was a short bike ride away," reports Sabrina H. The C&O Canal towpath runs through the campground, with one camper noting "Harpers Ferry is only 6 miles away on the trail."

Urban sightseeing from camp: Cherry Hill Park provides convenient transit options to Washington DC. "Easy access and well laid out sites. They have a bus stop for metro service to the city, but we took the 20 minute drive," shares Joe R. Another camper mentioned "The train ride from the Greenbelt station to the national mall is about 30 min."

    What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Bull Run Regional Park receives praise for its amenities. "Five stars for the restroom facilities. Bright, large, clean and very well maintained," writes Tana S. Another camper adds, "I'll go again just for the showers...They're with staying again alone. Locking doors, individual stalls."

Natural surroundings close to urban areas: Greenbelt Park Campground offers woodland camping despite its urban location. "This is an urban oasis. Traffic can be heard but not seen. Weekdays are pretty quiet in this campground," writes Becky. Another camper notes there's "plenty of space between camp site clusters. The park itself is safe, quiet, permitting some nice treks through the woods."

Military base amenities: Fort Belvoir Travel and RV Camp provides additional recreation options. "It is very clean and there are many amenities close by. The base outdoor recreation center has equipment to rent such as kayaks and canoes to explore the Potomac river," explains Jack R. Military credentials are required to access this facility.

    What you should know

Train noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience railway disruptions. At Harpers Ferry Campground, "The trains that come through here almost hourly range from quick commuter MARC or Amtrak trains to long freight trains. The proximity to the tracks means that if the sound doesn't wake you up, the rumbling ground will."

Reservation requirements and timing: Most campgrounds require advance booking, particularly during peak seasons. At Lake Fairfax Campground, operating from March through September, weekend rates can be higher: "Only reason it's not a 5 stars is a larger RV site is $50/night on the weekends but I guess that goes in line with all things in Northern VA."

Site levelness varies significantly: Prince William Forest RV Campground has mostly level sites, but other campgrounds present challenges. At Lake Fairfax, "The outer loop campsites are easily more level than the center loop. If leveling perfectly is a concern you may want to call ahead and ask before commiting to the inner loop."

    Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and dedicated kids' activities: Lake Fairfax offers numerous family amenities. "A lot to do: mountain bike trails; wooded hikes with water along the trails, skateboard park, BMX park, Water Park near the campground, fishing, & canoeing," reports Amy B. The water park requires an additional fee.

Educational opportunities: Bull Run Regional Park provides learning activities. "They had a campfire complete with s'mores followed by hayrides. Great family friendly campground," shares Bridget H. Another camper mentioned "my gkids enjoyed the nature scavenger hunt. You even get a prize when you finish."

Swimming options for hot days: Brunswick Family Campground allows direct river access for cooling off. "Easy to walk into the river or tube down it. Lots of different activities for kids and plenty of space at each site to make your home away from home," notes Nicholas S.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: At Cherry Hill Park, position matters. "Look at the park map and try to get a site at the end of a row. The sites are pretty close together but on the ends at least you only have a neighbor on one side," suggests one camper. Premium sites include additional amenities like patio furniture.

Urban camping convenience: Camp Meade RV Park provides military members easy access to DC. "Once on the campground land, the river is mesmerizing and campground staff is welcoming and helpful with any of your needs," notes Susan K. The store remains open all day with essential supplies.

Cell service and connectivity: RV campers report varying experiences with connectivity. At Prince William Forest RV Campground, "Att coverage is good" and another camper noted "I can confirm Verizon and Google fi have great service. I would imagine any other carrier would work just as well."
