Gateway to Moosehead's vast wilderness

Absolutely one of the jewels in the Maine State Park System, Lily Bay on enormous Moosehead Lake is generally open year round. Historically, this area was part of the Northern Canoe Trail and an important logging tract. It’s reasonably close to the Maine finish of the AT at Mt.Katahdin.

It is…

Good spot close to Baxter

If you don't want to camp in Baxter State Park this is a good spot. There seem to be different parts to the campground. Ours was a few minutes walk from the lodge. It is extremely dark at night, has plumbed bathrooms. The lodge is nice and North Trading Post is a good spot for coffee, snacks and…

Pretty Campground with access to the lake

Very nice campsite. Out site was away from the lake so we only had access to outhouse but could drive to the lake and comfort station with plumbed toilets and showers. Some nice trails around the lake but did see a snake which cut our walk short.

Almost Perfect

The campground is probably the best maintained Maine State Park. There are very few undersireable sites. I stayed on site 25 with access to the water via a short path. Most sites are well spaced and fairly flat requiring very little leveling and would have given 5 stars except the camp host used a…

Campground on beautiful Moosehead Lake

Very popular campground. We arrived the Tuesday after Labor Day weekend without a reservation thinking it would be easy to snag one of the 8 FF sites that fit RVs. There was only one site available, so we lucked out. Beautiful campground on the lake. Mostly full and partial shade, so don't plan on…

4 Primitive Pondsite Campsites

Ki-Jo Mary Multi-Use Forest has a number of campsites scattered throughout throughout, many of them alongside ponds or rivers. To get to the Little Jo Mary Pond campsites, you’ll need to enter via the Jo-Mary checkpoint off ME-11, south of Millinocket, north of Milo. There is a daily fee to enter…

Small primitive campground on a large lake

There's no fee to camp on Seboeis public lands and you can stay up to 14 days. That said, because it’s free and extended(14-day) stays are permitted, it can be hard to snag a drive-in, lakefront site. I returned on 3 consecutive weekdays and the only drive-in sites were occupied by the same…

  • One of the drive-in, lakefront sites
  • Another lakefront site. This area could be split into 2 sites, but it looked like one group occupying both.

Love This Place

This is our second time at this campground in as many years (same date range too). This year we took my dad.

If you want to be with a bunch of RVers, you can do that. Lots of sites in a row (right on the waterfront), plenty of space between, but little to no trees in that area. Kids love it…

Aptly named at 100 mile wilderness

Good location as I was supporting an AT hiker through the 100 mile wilderness. Close to Baxter state park and the Katahdin Iron Works area that provided access to the wilderness. There was a fee to access the wilderness from KI-Jo-Mary area but it they had their own great trails. Arrived a little…

Great campground, clean facilities

We’ve stayed here in cabins a tent sites when hiking Mt Katahdin. Both were clean and tent sites were spacious. Bathrooms are tidy with all the hot water a smelly tired pack of hikers could ask for. Staff is always friendly and they almost always have spaces available.

A throwback campground

Truly nice folks who built this campground 39 years ago, still run it. Well maintained and full of nice folks. Mostly rv camping with some tent sites. A lot of seasonal rv occupants. Great for families with children but nice for all folks. Two bath areas and a laundry room. Free baths and…

When we saw the listing we were really excited to stay there: it had a canvas tent and is on Deer Isle (relatively) near Stonington. As we drove out there we realized that is was in a pretty remote part of the island, which was not what we were expecting.

The Con: When we arrived we were shocked…

Favorite stop in Greenville

We stay here every time we visit Moosehead lake. The spots are tidy and are broken up so you don't ever feel crowded. The staff is always kind and helpful and we can't wait to go back again soon!
