Pokagon State Park Campground welcomes pets with well-maintained sites and amenities. The campground features electric and non-electric loops set in wooded areas that provide natural buffers between campsites. Most pet-friendly sites are spacious, though size varies considerably throughout the park. Leashed pets are permitted throughout the campground areas, though they must be supervised at all times. Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday and Buck Lake Ranch also accommodate pets, with amenities including full hookup sites, cabin options, and tent camping areas. Sites at Happy Acres Campground are particularly clean with friendly workers and seasonal residents who make visitors feel welcome. Camp Sack In provides pet owners with swimming areas, hiking trails, and various recreational facilities while maintaining standard pet policies.

The lakes surrounding these campgrounds offer excellent recreation opportunities for visitors with dogs. Hogback Lake at the KOA features boat access, with designated areas where pets can enjoy shoreline activities while motorized vessels use the main waterways. Trails throughout Pokagon State Park are accessible to leashed pets, with multiple hiking options of varying difficulty levels. The park maintains separate marked trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, allowing pet owners to choose appropriate routes. Campground bathrooms and facilities are generally clean and well-maintained across properties, with several campgrounds offering convenient waste disposal options for pet owners. The extensive chain of lakes in the region provides multiple days of exploration possibilities for those bringing water-loving dogs. Temperature variations can be significant during shoulder seasons, so visitors camping with pets should prepare accordingly.

Less then 5 minutes to lake Wawasee (the largest lake in Indiana). if you have a dog this place is a MUST they have an amazing dog spa and dog park. Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

      Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

      Johnny Appleseed Campground

      Great location

The location here is pretty crazy it’s right in the middle of town but feels like a park there is a river and wooded area that makes you feel like you are in nature but you are just a parking lot away from an arena and college. There is a playground and a dog park. Here as well as ball diamonds. This is a great family friendly place but is very very busy during the season.

      Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney

      Great campground!

Great campground in the heart of Amish country. Near Elkhart and the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum. Great place to visit, really interesting. Also, near Shipshewana. Campground has lots of activities: pool, miniature golf, volley ball, fishing pond, big chess set, bike rental, mining area, playground, and rec. hall w/ video games, pool, ping pong, air hockey, and juke box. Nice little store. Dog park. Clean restrooms. Friendly owner and employees. Lots of mature shed trees.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

      Shipshewana North Park Campground

Nice campground in a convenient location

We were passing through and decided to stop for frozen custard at the stand right next to the campground. The first review for this place did not seem very inviting but a more recent one was a little more positive. After checking it out, I thought it could use a little reinforcement of the positives! I’m not sure if there have been new owners since the first review but I received a very friendly greeting, and the office is open from 9 am– 8 pm and clearly marked as the place to check-in.

There are many options here: back-in or pull-thru tent sites, w/e sites, full hook-up sites, camper cabins, and fully equipped cabins. The campsites range from $32-$46 per night and the cabins range from $69-$144 per night. Sites 47-52 are close to the road so you will hear road noise, but Sites 11-35 are farther from the road and are more shaded. The layout is RV park style but there is reasonable separation between the sites.

The restrooms have a code for entry, and I did not see the inside of these.

      Amenities include:

      - a community fire pit

      -  game room with television

      - guest laundry

      - dump station

      - gift shop

      - pet friendly options

       -WiFi

      - There is, of course, an ice cream/frozen custard stand that I dare you to resist.

While we would not consider it a destination, we would definitely consider camping here en route – the price is reasonable, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

    Guide to Hamilton

Pokagon State Park Campground and Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday both welcome pets with designated pet-friendly camping areas. Most campsites permit dogs on standard 6-foot leashes and require owners to clean up after their animals. The campgrounds maintain clean, accessible pet waste stations throughout the properties. Pet owners appreciate the spacious sites at Pokagon, with enough room for dogs to rest comfortably alongside tents or RVs without crowding neighboring campers. Trails throughout both parks accommodate leashed pets, though some swimming areas restrict dog access. Buck Lake Ranch and Happy Acres Campground also offer pet-friendly accommodations with similar policies. Sites at all these locations feature picnic tables and fire rings convenient for families camping with their dogs.

Dog-friendly hiking trails wind through Pokagon State Park and connect to several lakes where pets can cool off in designated areas. During summer months, early morning or evening walks provide cooler temperatures for pets on trails. Several visitors note the well-maintained walking paths suitable for all sizes of dogs at Angola/Hogback Lake KOA. Pet owners should pack extra towels for muddy paws, particularly after rain or lake activities. All campgrounds enforce quiet hours that include barking restrictions. The town of Angola provides emergency veterinary services approximately 15 minutes from most campgrounds. Seasonal campers with pets often select sites away from main roads for better privacy and reduced traffic noise that might disturb sensitive dogs.
