Silver Creek Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing and stargazing draw campers to Silver Creek Campground, a free BLM site on the banks of Silver Creek in south-central Idaho. Dispersed sites sit close to the water, giving anglers direct access to the creek without much of a walk. The campground road runs past several spots, with the last site at the far end tending to see the fewest visitors. Nearby, Silver Creek Public Access Dispersed and Silver Creek North & South offer additional options along the same corridor for groups that arrive to find the sites taken.

Summer temperatures here run hot and dry through the day, typical for this part of Idaho in July. Evenings cool down considerably once the sun drops, and the low light pollution makes for good star visibility on clear nights. Cell service is available at the campground, which is useful for weather checks. Fire risk is a real concern in the surrounding sagebrush and dry grass, and at least one local has made a point of warning campers to leave immediately if smoke appears, since the vegetation burns fast.

The site includes a vault toilet, picnic tables, and firewood. It is ADA accessible and accommodates big rigs. The no-cost setup, combined with water access and basic amenities, makes Silver Creek a practical choice for anglers, overnight travelers passing through the region, and anyone looking for campgrounds near Picabo without paying a fee.

Overnight stop

Hot and dry but that’s to be expected in July. Very peaceful and cooled off beautifully as the sun set. The were so many stars out once it was dark and the light layer of clouds moved on. A local came by this morning to say hi and remind us that if we see smoke-leave immediately as the vegetation will burn fast! We camped at the last one on the road.
