We headed in for a night of dispersed camping before heading into Grand Canyon NP. There were lots of available spots to choose from being January. It was easy to find and the drive in was fairly smooth.
We went in after dark but did some exploring in the morning before leaving. We found lots more sites available, some large, some small. Most having fire rings.
Cell service was spotty but we were camping so it was to be expected.
We stayed two nights while visiting the Canyon de Chelly NM. Quiet-there was one other camper each night that came in after dark. Restrooms were clean. Water refill station was closed for the winter.
We stopped overnight traveling from the Phoenix area to Canyon DeChelly. Great spot. Quiet. Clean. A few other campers but we didn’t notice them.
We stayed at the Willow Campground for two nights while visiting family and friends in the Surprise area. Hiked the Waterfall and Black Loop Trail for a little exercise as well. Didn’t do any others as our dog had an encounter with a stray cholla ball. This would be the only concern for those traveling with pets. There are quite a few lose even along trails. Other than that the facilities are clean and well kept. Fresh water and showers are available.
We stayed a couple of nights while visiting family and friends in the area. Gave us a chance to refill water and propane, take some long hot showers and generally recharge before heading back out on the road. Great facilities - very clean and friendly staff.
We stayed two nights in this spot, visiting the Saguaro NP during the day. Only 2-3 other campers in the area while we were there. Fairly easy in and out. The road had some washboard but you could easily avoid by staying in the outer edges of the road. Very quiet with good views of the sky.
The road is a bit rough but we found a great spot to spend the night. Sunset on the Organ Mtns was beautiful and we woke up to a light dusting of snow.
Great views with easy access for our overnight stop before heading into White Sands NP the next morning. A few other campers out on this cold January evening but it was quiet.
We moved from our free dispersed campsite to fill up, charge up, shower and do laundry. Very friendly staff and clean facilities. It appears to be heavily used during peak season at Carlsbad Caverns. We treated ourselves to a delicious burger at the Cactus Cafe after our last tour the the caverns.
We stayed three nights for free while hiking and exploring Guadalupe Mountain NP and Carlsbad Caverns NP. Plenty of space and a room to let the dog explore. Close to both parks. Even in January the spots stayed full but there is lots of room around the parameter. We preferred those spots as it kept more distance from the other campers.
We stayed here three nights while we explored the Big Bend NP. Great facility. Clean and well kept.
Easy to find with plenty of spots open. Our neighbor reported seeing a fox come through our site. The campground was very clean and well kept. There is a highway very close and train tracks just beyond that but it didn’t bother us at all as there was very little traffic while we were sleeping.
Small, clean campground with hookups. Great place for an overnight stop or a longer stay when visiting the area!
Great overnight stop if you are needing full hook-ups although it is loud due to its proximity to the freeway and Love’s Truck Stop. We prefer dispersed camping but needed full services to be able to shower and fill water so the noise was expected and tolerable. Staff was friendly and facilities were clean. Note: the facilities are not available after office hours which in December are 9-5.
Unable to contact for reservations so not even sure if they are still in operation
Easily found the dispersed sights from the app. Spent a very quiet night nestled back off the highway under the stars.
After another day spent exploring the park, we were looking for a great spot to set us up for two last stops before leaving the park the following morning. We were going into Sunset but the ranger directed us to Texas Springs-no generators and less expensive for the win. We had a great view of the stars and Milky Way-getting great photos while enjoying the warm evening.
After spending the day exploring we found this gem of a spot. Even had fresh water available to fill up our tanks.
After a long day of driving in various weather conditions, we found this gem of a spot. Called ahead and the host had everything waiting for us in the afternoon-hours check-in spot. Vela got her first taste of playing in the snow. Nice facilities.
Quick stopover on our way to Death Valley. Vela got a chance to play ball. Found the site easily in the dark. Very quiet night for sleeping with the sound of a creek running behind our camper.
